Dirty hands

The only time my hand gets filthy is if I play for hours at a public room. It’s the chalk embedded into the cloth. It transfers to my bridge hand. At my home table, my hand stays 10 times cleaner.

Wow, thanks for all the replies , even the snide ones. OK, Simonis 860HR blue/green, using Master blue chalk. Table is brushed daily, sometimes twice. Believe me no dirt anywhere; I'm a clean freak and I'm retired so I have plenty of time. And yeah, I guess my hand isn't really black maybe dark green. I did play at a friends house for hours on gold Simonis cloth, and my hand never got dirty. So maybe it is something with the Gold Crown. Pocket castings have the clear coat removed and highly polished, rubber pockets are new. Oh well, I'll just have to wear a glove I guess!

Looks most likely. You can polish aluminum forever and without a protective coating it will turn your hands black. My bet is the castings.

So very true! I'm reminded of this every time I use one of my coworker's aluminum ladders at work. If I even just move it over to an engine to service engine oil my hands are black. He says that the oil reacts with the uncoated aluminum causing this. Makes me wonder if the OP is using something on the aluminum that is making the situation worse?

Easy to test. He just needs to play for a while and manage not to ever touch the aluminum pocket castings, and see what happens.

When aluminum is polished it makes the polish turn a real nasty black color but if its wiped down good when finished it shouldnt turn things black. Maybe try wiping the castings down with a towel and alcohol or Windex and see if that helps.

OK, here it is! I never thought of it nor would I ever believe it, but it was the brush! I paid extra for a brush with real horsehair, told it was the best, and for two years now I was applying more gunk to the cloth each time I brushed it! How dumb could I be? At 75 years old you'd think I would know better, or at least figure it out before I thought it was the cheap cloth and then go out and spend $390 for Simonis. Thanks again for all the replies. BTW I have that beautiful Cold Crown I for sale on ebay for $3500 or a reasonable offer!

My hand has turned green forever playing pool. It is the blue chalk dust. Brushing does not remove it. Vacuuming helps.

You DON'T brush worsted wool. All that does is move it around. Use a vac or a Simonis X-1. My local spot has a X-1 and i'm amazed just how much chalk dust that thing removes.

Thanks! I didn’t know that. I had been brushing daily and vacuuming every two weeks or so. I think I’ll just dedicate a vac to the table and retire the brush.

Nope.

Youll get a hammer and some eye protection. Then you'll put the brush under a towel an beat it to small pieces.
