Actually I was serious. I don't understand why accustats wasn't allowed to do the tournament. If I wade through 400+ posts it is probably in there somewhere, but I'm not that bored.

I've already said this before in this long thread, but I will save you the trouble of looking it up.

When I spoke to Randy Goldwater about this, it had to do about licensing, something to dow ith the name of the tournament. Randy made a post this morning, perhaps if you send him a PM he could tell the exact reasons - and you will get your info straight from the man himself.

It should also be noted that Randy had not planned on having any of the matches recorded at all this year. I called Charlie back in February and offered to help with the production so that we could at least have some documented history of what happened. Last year Randy hired a production company to come in and record the matches, and he encountered a lot of problems. I am very happy that he allowed Jorge Torres to get some of the matches on tape - I think everybody will be happy with the way Jorge produces his work.

Decisions like this were made because Randy puts this event on out of his love for the game of 14.1 - and most of the expenses come out of his own pocket. Like most promoters, he doesn't get rich because he puts on a pool tournament. He either has to cut costs, or he has to find a way to market the event so that it generates income through sponsorship, or dvd sales. Randy has put his ass on the firing line 2 years in a row, and he has conducted himself as a leader that possesses class and dignity. As a player I am extremely grateful that we have a Randy Goldwater in our sport that is willing to be out there working his ass off for 6 months putting this tournament together.

Prior to Randy's involvement in this project, there was very little interest in straight pool at all. Now, people are starting to play it again and get excited about it. Just look at how successful the event was at Danny K's this past weekend. People want to see it, and players want to play it. I am hoping that sooner than later, a 14.1 event can be added to DCC and the SBE.

This is "hearsay" on my part, hearsay that I read on this forum, so you may want to take it with a grain of salt! ;)

Accu-Stats and the promoter of the 14.1 "World" Championship tournament did engage in discussions about Accu-Stats covering the event. However, there was not a successful negotiation between the two entities. Accu-Stats' conditions for recording the event was not acceptable to the promoter.

However, I will add that Accu-Stats, the longest established recording company of pool events, did record the recent $25,000-added Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour event held at Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, New York, in recent times. They will also be at the U.S. Open, as they are every year, come this October.

Hope this helps!

Of course, you're in. I just checked with Eagle Promotions' sponsor, Ricky Byrd. This "World" Championship Typing Contest couldn't have happened without the monies donated by Ricky Byrd.

As a sponsor of this "World" Championship Typing Contest, Ricky Byrd is given two Wild Card selections. He can choose anyone in the world to get in this event, and you're one of the two Wild Cards. See you there! :D

Ricky Byrd is inviting Billy Incardona to type against Cliff Joyner, with Billy getting 11-7 w.p.m. spot from Cliff for 5,000 jellybeans and THEN Ricky Byrd 'promises' to belly up to the typewriter like an executive secretary and get in the typing box against Billy for 5,000 jellybeans with the same spot......

( make Ricky Byrd post the money (ALL the money) up on the copier first..... imo ) :)

The rules have already been established. Ricky Byrd's monies are in escrow. Billy Incardona was selected as the other Wild Card spot on the player roster, along with Frankie White.

Ricky Byrd has kindly offered to play a grudge match against Billy Incardona at the conclusion of the event. However, Billy demanded the monies be posted up front. Liljon, an Eagle Promotions touring typist, has suggested to place the post monies underneath the typewriters in full view.

Lil Jon, listen to the sound of my voice. You are tired, you are VERY tired. Your eyelids are growing heavy, VERY heavy. Your eyelids are so heavy, that you cannot keep them open. Close your eyes, Lil Jon. SLEEP.....SLEEP......SLEEP

Thanks for the reply. I can understand that there isn't enough of a profit margin to allow him to pay a production company to do the video. If somebody would put together a dynamic run like Irving Crane did in the '66 finals I think it would sell a lot of tapes, but what do I know.

Lol?

wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

lol we can't stop short of 500 posts. I was gonna post a long serious post, then decided "nah the thread turned nice and off-topic and should now die". I guess I half changed my mind tho.

Grady - you gotta respect him but the CW-hating is unfair and sounds like sour grapes. He can't bash the host of the so-called private party and then b?tch he didn't get invited to the next party. If it were based strictly on playing skill, he probably deserved an invite even though he's past his prime. But he should be sharp enough to know it's not about that. If not inviting him for personal reasons makes the event a good-old-boys club... then whatever, but I'd probably do the same thing. Seems reasonable not to invite someone who frequently attacks you and wants to see your endeavors fail.

Randy G. - awesome by any standard.

Charlie W. - without knowing all the details, seems to have good intentions and works hard. How can anyone hate on that? His organization (which RG clarified isn't the UPA anymore) is just trying to reach the same end using a different method. People who hate that method should treat him as a friendly competitor instead of a comic-book villain out to destroy pool.

Jam - definitely gets nasty when someone disagrees in a way that gets her hackles up. Some of her negative reactions seem to come out of the blue. I don't think she's a bad person but she is quick to resort to immature stuff, which sometimes gets overlooked because she writes pretty well so it's hard to spot it for what it is.

Cleary - is an ass in the way he came across, but maybe had just a tiny hint of a valid point?! Don't flame me as hard as you flamed him... I love accu-stats and they did so much for pool. They have the right pool and the right commentary and that's all you really need. But if his point is that some of the accu-stats production seems amateurish I agree, I kinda got that impression before. But I still love them and we have to remember how they started out, as a pool business than a video production business. It could be improved but I honestly don't care if it never does because I'm really just wanting to see the match, everything else is gravy.

Me - In danger of being called a troll. Also, 82 WPM @ 99.2% accuracy, but with two fingers only (plus thumb for space).
