Disgusted

I agree with Jay. That's why the game is usually played in races. To even out fortunes and missfortunes.
Do what I used to do Shane. When you get home from the pool room, slap the wife around a little and kick the crap out of the dog. You'll be feeling better in no time.
Glad I could help. :)

His wife might get a "lucky punch" and knock his ass out LOL.

Seems funny

is the original poster not joining in his own thread because he was hoping we would all agree with him or are we all just lucky?

Slim

maybe he left because the guy he just beat got all pissy & bichy like a girl who just got felt up on her fist date.

Hmmm, I never had this problem :scratchhead:. The girls I dated would get all pissy & *****y if they DIDN'T get "felt up" ;) Glad now that I didn't marry one of THEM!!!

Maniac (thinks OP should insist on playing 10-ball in future action)

I think you have a valid point, but I do not think 9 or 10 Ball will become "call shot games", honestly the only way to change thing is to get a major rules change...

Last time I checked 10 Ball WAS a call shot game.

If you like 9 Ball except for the luck, play 10 Ball.

No I didn't leave. but do have a job. Didn't think this thread was gonna be so active. Like I said i was just bored and venting. But as it stands, called opponent and am gonna play in 1 hr. same game. The game is he's getting the 7 and the race will go to 11 this time. Thanks to all those who contributed in a positive way.

**SHANE**...Good for you. Do yourself a favor, and even if the guy gets lucky, show NO emotion. Just play your game, regardless of the outcome. Be a gracious winner, as well as loser! Players who show me what 'sets them off' are giving me ammunition to use against them. Like others said, play 10-ball if you want to play call pocket. Good luck!

The only 10 ball I ever played was call pocket, not call shot. But you are right, play 10 ball. It is a better money game IMO.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say but both 10 Ball and Straight Pool are expressly referred to as "call shot" games and it is so written in the rules.

Here is the rule (1.6) for all games covered by the World Standardized Rules:

1.6 Standard Call Shot

In games in which the shooter is required to call shots, the intended ball and pocket must be indicated for each shot if they are not obvious. Details of the shot, such as cushions struck or other balls contacted or pocketed are irrelevant. Only one ball may be called on each shot.
For a called shot to count, the referee must be satisfied that the intended shot was made, so if there is any chance of confusion, e.g. with bank, combination and similar shots, the shooter should indicate the ball and pocket. If the referee or opponent is unsure of the shot to be played, he may ask for a call.
In call shot games, the shooter may choose to call “safety” instead of a ball and pocket, and then play passes to the opponent at the end of the shot. Whether balls are being spotted after safeties depends on the rules of the particular game.

So if you are saying calling ball and pocket is "call pocket" and "call shot" means something else (like calling any caroms, combos or banks), I respectfully disagree. I couldn't find the term "call pocket" addressed anywhere in the rules and could not find any recognized games in the rules for which this other version of "call shot" applies. Call shot means exactly what it says it means in the rules - ball and pocket.

Sorry. You posted before I edited mine. What I meant was:

Call Pocket: call ball and pocket: doesn't matter how it gets into the pocket.

Call Shot: Call combos, caroms, rails, pocket etc.... No slops allowed.

Yeah, it just one of those informal things that locals use around here. We distinguish the two by using the terms "call pocket" and "call shot" with "call shot" meaning no slops and shot details.

The rules posted is the rules we play by.

My bad...

That's another illustration of why it is always a good idea to know the local rules when walking into a strange room looking for action, like playing a safety in 8 Ball in the wrong bar. :grin-square:

We're here for you Shane. And by-the-way, the next time you decide to take off right in the middle of an active thread, be sure and tell somebody. We were getting worried. You could have had a heart attack and no one would have known. One of the guys was getting ready to call 911, for crissakes.

This is going to be long winded, so go grab some coffee or make some microwave popcorn.

Citing another thread here, why there are so many guests lurking than posting, we jumped on the OP and may have driven him off. He had a rant and needed to vent, instead of showering him with support and excuses, basically everyone told him to man-up.

I'm thinking, maybe create a separate forum where people can rant all they want. We can call it, Nursing Pool Rant, or NPR for short.

In Arizona in our Community Room the Rules are the Same as 9 Ball with a 10th Ball.

BCAPL Rule are here and it is a "Call Shot GAME!

So I learned something today.

Coco, I cringe a little bit every time I hear of 10 Ball being played with 9 Ball rules. TE style slop has a way of taking over any game in which it is introduced (2 foul 9 Ball for instance) and I do not want to see that happen to 10 Ball. I like the fact that they are different games and both have their place. But I really don't want to see proper 10 Ball fade away because people start to play 9 Ball with 10 balls just to overcome the problems with the 9 ball rack. There have been many ways devised to help deal with the issues of the 9 ball rack - playing 10 Ball with 9 ball rules doesn't have to be one of them. Besides, the rack is part of the game, deal with it. :)

I'm getting so fed up with luck or roles coming into play within the course of a match.
Played this Guy yesterday a race to 9. In that race he snapped 2 nine balls, had 3 nine ball combinations, shit 2 balls in non intended pockets and got out. That's 7 unanswered games. What snapped me was his comment " I'd rather be lucky than good ". My response was " I'd rather have someone respect my game " in which he took offence to.
So I lose 9-7.
Now he's all happy cause he beat me and wants to play again. I said fine but we modify the game and see if you can win without luck.
Play call shot of your next ball in rotation, meaning always calling 1 ahead of what your shooting whether its calling the pocket or playing safe and see how good you are without luck. If you don't accomplish what u called its ball in hand.
Needless to say he left.
I'm sure others are as fed up as me.

Maybe you should play in open tournaments :-)

(9 ball) It goes full circle most of the time. What ever goes around comes around most of the time. Suck it up & play your game.

Good Luck :-)
