One day i've ordered a custom cue stick with OB-1 Shaft & Break jump cue too! from Mike Gullyassay. It took time to get made. and I was so excited. by the time its done. The only thing I was thinking of "The Delivery services" Okay? So i waited for so long, it's time to pickup a fast company, and I don't care how much they charge me, all what I think of is that I need my cue ASAP.

Mike is in the united states. I'm in Kuwait. so i'm really far away. so after checking which company I'm going for. We decided to go for FedEX. I payed them the Max. available just to recieve my cue in a short time which was 2 to 3 days. from USA to Kuwait.

The package flight starts on the 19th of Sep. and it was suppose to arrive in 22th of Sep at Max. I was checking the FedEx website every few hours. Was so excited. It flight from USA to Paris in the first day, this made my day:) Then in second day I saw it arrived in the office of Dubai. And i said in my mind "It's almost there baby" And guess what? It didn't move out of Dubai since then. until now! they never called me, not an email, Even when I call them a new guy will comes into the phone and be like "Okay sir we'll look into it, then return to you" and they never friggin return.

Now I don't know if my package got lost. or is it safe, or hiding somewhere, I don't even know if i'm ever will be able to play with it. as you know it's a custom cue. It got made. Not a premade cue that I can re-buy anytime I want. so i'm so sad.

Never have had a problen with FedEx here in the states. Tracking numbers always work for me. I hope it works out for you.

If U R in military I find it best to use usps when sending overseas. Also they have tracking numbers.
 
Thanks for the post Bob, I appreciate your trying to help. but I did already used Tracking numbers, and apparntly the package is stuck in Dubai for like 4 days now.
 
I have to a Gulaysi break and jumping cue to. It works good.

Im wishing you safe speedy acceptance of your new cues.

Is pool room in Kuwate big?
 
yeah We have alot of pool rooms here actually, some are big with 31 to 40 tables, and some are small down to 6 to 10 tables. and they really good :) We have few good players in here too, Some of them are coming to the united states this year to play in U.S Open 9ball champions. I hope they preform good in there though :)
 
depends on the room, most of them have "Gold crown" Kind. and some brunswick & The new ones has Diamond.
 
This hard to believe. Many pool rooms in Kuwate?

Who opens them? What happend to war there? Is the business economy stable?
 
The business in kuwait is good. Nothing like what you have in your mind. I know the thoughts of war and other stuff, but there is nothing. People here are working each day, and have their own business. and the country is beatiful. We got plenty of rooms here and there. The old pool players opens them, just like hows it goes in the U.S.

There was no war in kuwait since 1991. now we're 2007. Mostly the fights now and WARS are in iraq. and the american armies are in iraq, not kuwait :) unelss they come here for rest & backup hehe:) and even tho iraq is close to Kuwait, but there will never be any kind of damage here.

yes there is some tournys here, We usually travel in the whole arabian golf.

big tournys happens to be in Kuwait sometime and some other times would be in Dubai. and its just a 1.30hr to get to dubai.

pool charges usually would be 2 dinars per hour. so 2 X 3 = 6 american dollars. but thats only for unknown customer who just comes to play randomly.

For me as I been attending a club for almost 8 years now, If i try practicing it's free. and if I play its 50% discount would make that 1dinar per hour. i.e. 3 dollars.

i do not believe it's fedex's fault other than them not communicating with you. i am guessing it is having a problem in customs. there could be many reasons for this. once it hits customs, fedex is at the country's mercy just like you. i've sent packages to canada that move like i was sending in the usa. i have sent packages to canada that took 7 days stuck in customs, why? who knows. it's worse when i send to london!

if it's stuck in dubai, it's stuck in customs. to be honest, once anything hits 3rd world soil you can never tell. that's my opinion. fedex at times will use a local carrier once the package arrives in another country. you should expect any overseas delivery times to be APPROXIMATE.

as for safety, i wouldn't use any other carrier. i send $xx,xxx worth of one of a kind work and fedex is all i use. they have never lost a thing in 27 years.

USPS Global works great. As with any service...a big key to smoothness is properly filling out the customs form.;)
 
Well, even if it's lost I am sure you took the extra step of getting insurance on the item. If this is the case, at least you could have it remade if you had to.

That's too bad. I've had great luck with FedEx here in the US. I've literally had hundreds of collectors cues shipped with no problem. Their tracking system domestically is state of the art.

However, I use USPS International Express mail for overseas packages and have had very good luck. My experience was Fed Ex was very expensive overseas and not as reliable as they are domestically.

However unfortunate, any package can get delayed in customs,. One time in Vancouver, Canada their government postal customs office was so backed up they had two weeks to a month backlog inspecting packages!

It's a good bet your cue is stuck in customs for a few more days and will make its way to Kuwait in due course.

Last year, at the US Amateur Nationals in Atlanta, I decided to ship my Szamboti to the tournament via Fed Ex. I sent it standard overnight on Wed night, with the idea that I would fly in Thurs night, pick up my cue and play Friday with it. I get off the plane, get the rental car and drive to the Fed Ex location, which was an all night Kinkos/Fed ex store. I get there and my cue is not there. They do not know where it is. Come back in the morning they tell me.

So morning comes and I go there and the cue is not there. Come back at 1 they tell me. I go to the tournament and borrow a cue to play with from a friend (thank you Bobby Hicks!). I win my first match double hill and jump in the car and haul ass to Fed ex. I get there and they tell me they don't have my cue and dont know where it is. The attitude they have is that they could care less where my cue is and really if its not there, then I need to call the National Fedex number and figure it out. Go stand over there mister and get out of the main line, we got customers here..cant you see? The national line tells me they are investigating and will call me. I lose my next match and Fed ex call me to tell me that they found my cue and that its in another town hundreds of miles away. I can go get it there now or I can wait and they will bring it to me here in Atlanta tommorrow.

Saturday rolls around and I am at Fed ex again at 10am. No cue. We dont know why its not here, sorry but come back at 11. No cue at 11. They eventually call me in the afternoon and tell me they have it. I get there and the box I shipped it in looks like it went 15 rounds with the Samsonite commercial gorillas. I packed the cue for WWIII so thankfully nothing happened to it.

The thing that gets me is that the cue had 7.5 or 10k insurance , I cant remember now the exact amt, but that nobody..not the local fedex, not the drivers, not the national office really gave two shits if the cue was lost or not. For all of them, this was just no big deal and if there was going to be any kind of payout for insurance, well no big deal that crap happens all the time.

I will never ship my Szamboti again like that. Not that I think it will get lost, I just don't want to ever have to go through that experience again, especially when I had taken two days off of work and was spending 4 days away from my family to commit to a pool tournament. I got drilled at the tournament too, so overall the experience sucked.
 
I've shipped a few cues out of the country, and have been advised to declare them at $200 or less. Otherwise, the customs can become a problem. Even getting into Canada cna be diifficult if you value the cue over $200. So now you have the dilemma of how to insure a cue you are shipping overseas. I have found it to be easier and faster to take minimal insurance, declare it for $200 and just take your chances.

Every cue I have shipped this way has gotten through quickly and with no problems. That includes Canada, Germany, Singapore, England and China.
