Do the Filipinos give back?

Of course pool players can't give back money.

I mean just off the top of my head I would not expect Filipinos to teach billy Thorpe the inner workings of how to kick or something, although maybe they would. If I was an eighth grade pe teacher, and asked 10 Filipinos to come in for a day to get my kids psyched up on pool, would they jump on it if they had the time? Would they all say no?

I think it's a fair question. I know if I moved to a country that afforded me my lifestyle that I probably could not have without them, and they welcomed me with open arms, I'd be inclined to get involved. But maybe it's hard for them because there just aren't too many areas where they can give back. Maybe some people should start asking perhaps they'd be happy to do it, or already do?

In short, do you feel like they do or would give back, or are they just here to make money and get out? What impression do you get? And why not ask them to if you have an opportunity, maybe they'd be happy to do it.

What have you given to the country which makes dirt bike racing possible and how much do you make?

Most pool players rely on backers to scrape out a living and they are one cold streak or physical problem like regressing eyesight from being unable to make any money. Your impression of the lifestyle of Filipinos seems out of touch with reality.

Umm-

Yes, my point is how do we expect them to give back when they do not have the most basic form of integrity n loyalty.
I mean c'mon , Shane was nice enough to be their sponsor n get em visas to come to states and you bite his hand after being established.
Im sure Shane doesnt need em to repay the favors but he least expect em to pull these stunts on him , know what i mean .

Please, lets not get so specific lest we forget the lessons of the 2 words
"French Brothers" and how they tried to get over contractually on DO and the others.
Things happen,
It is what it is-There are opportunists everywhere.

i will give you all an idea of how much different the cost of living is in the US compared to the Philippines.

The minimum wage in the US is $7.25 per hour.
The minimum wage in the Philippines is 480 pesos (around $9.8) PER DAY.

The cost to apply for a US visa (with a very small chance of approval) is $160.
A roundtrip plane ticket to the US is around $1,500-2,000.

many of them are obviously afforded a relatively nice lifestyle because of the tournaments and action here in the us. And i know pretty much all of us are happy to have them and see their play. Do you feel like they give back to the country that gives to them however? Curious what people have to say either way.
no they don't.

"Giving back" seems like a socialist concept. It assumes that they took something they weren't due. What did they take that they have to give back? Do you give back after being paid for working your job?

Most pool players are takers not givers.

Most people who adhere to this line of thought^^^ are not very open minded, so I'd be wasting my breath trying to explain all the failed thinking in your post.

Do American or European players "give back" when they play in the Philippines?

Do not know or care about the OP's motivation for this post. I served in the navy when the Filipinos were not allowed to serve as anything other than messcooks or officers wait staff. Fortunately that has changed now. I can say that those who question the contributions of these fine people must be dreadfully ignorant of their history as allies of the US. They owe us NOTHING.....

A simple "no" would have worked. And I suppose I agree.

many of them? who exactly? I can think of one, Efren, who took decades to achieve a "nice lifestyle"

you're really speaking out of your ass, go down to the pi and see for yourself what kind of lifestyle top pool skills gets you

the avg top player over there practices all day and barely sees his family, a usa tournament means out of pocket expenses in the thousands and lucky to come back home breaking even, ....yeah great lifestyle.......as far as giving back, your IRS ensures that

My answer to the OP is a resounding yes! Efren is not the only successful Filipino pool player. Django and Dennis come to mind first. Both are family men who send the bulk of their winnings home in support of their families, both immediate and extended.

Every Filipino player I know who has a family (Warren, Santos, Lee Vann, Carlo) does likewise. They have their priorities in order!

1 to 2 thousand is a years salary in the Philippines!

Any good score is enough to help families back home greatly!

Bro, they are better off for having other countries to play pool in. If that's hard for you to understand, not much I can help with.

Yeah, and I think that is great. What you're saying is they come over and send much or most of their money back home. That most definitely is having your priorities in order.

Addressing the issue of whether they owe anything to the USA for affording them this opportunity, my answer would be a resounding no. While here they rent rooms, buy food and travel domestically by car and air. They are big time consumers which is good for our economy.

Additionally many of them are taxed 30 per cent of their winnings! Not to mention the money they donate to casinos. It's very difficult for a Filipino to get a visa to come here and after they do get a visa it's a huge gamble to make any money when they do come. More have failed then have succeeded.

no clearly you do not understand, there is no significant benefit to your assertion,
the avg pool player there makes less than a call centre employee and puts in alot more hours at his craft, he's likely at their poverty line from a money standpoint

I've spent alot of time there op, it's somewhat equivalent to the lifestyle and salary of an american pro player only in a third world county which makes it a significantly bad value proposition

you're speaking with little to no education nor experience on the matter, might wanna just accept you've been called out as immature and ultimately wrong never mind your motivations for creating this thread which has been called to attention also, maybe just leave it at that son

I'm done with ya

give back?

Yeah, there's so much money to be made in pool that you MUST give something back......LOL
