From what I have seen over the years of building cues is that the players who know enough to "fit" the shaft to their bridge & hand size, are generally solid, strong & seasoned players.

Sounds like some good advice to me! Thanks Eric!

I'm in the comfort camp. You play best with the shaft that feels most comfortable. I know players who prefer 13.5-14mm shafts because they simply have big hands & that's what feels good. They are great players, too. They can do anything with the cueball anybody else can do. I also know the players who prefer thinner shafts and generally they are smaller guys with smaller hands. You can trick yourself into believing one thing is better than another but one thing you can't do is shrink or grow your extremeties to fit your theories. I agree with this, although I have small hands and play with a 13mm shaft. Thinner shafts just don't feel comfortable to me. Kinda weird, but true.

I have large hands but I prefer a thinner tip diameter. I shoot with a McDermott I-3 shaft and I feel that I can get geometric precision where I hit the cue ball with a smaller tip diameter.

Do Thicker or Thinner Shafts Increase Performance??

I thought that VIAGRA would increase performance. :lmao:

On a serious note all comes down to what is the taper you feel more comfortable with. You will hear that thinner ferrules (less weight in front of the shaft) decreases deflection.

I can dig it. In my case it's neither thick, or thin, but warped!
In any event, I think the performer provides the performance.

How about with you glove user's???

I'm going to bump this thread because of something I experienced recently. I've been playing with a glove lately due to the humidity around here and noticed that the shaft feels a bit thicker due to the material.

Have any of you glove user's experienced this at all???

Thinner shaft = less surface area = less nerve endings = longer performance.

Also my OB2 performs like a thoroughbred. :)

I personally like thicker shafts. I play with a sw andbuse shafts at 13 - 13.25mm. It just feels better

Ithink it makes a big difference depending on your playing style. Eg if u like to spin the ball around or play simple patterns
