Do you call your own fouls? If you double hit the cueball do you tell your opponent? If you miss your shot and nothing hits a rail do you make sure your opponent is aware they have ball in hand?

It has become a pet peeve of mine when my opponent does not call his own fouls. I could understand it if we were playing for money (though I wouldn't agree with the practice), but it happens fairly often during free practice games, and occasionally in league games.

If the game is just practice, I don't generally call them on it. Instead, I make a mental note that they must be watched like a hawk to ensure they don't cheat during more important games.

For me, calling my own fouls is the right thing to do, so that's what I do.

Tournaments and just shooting for fun, definately. Its the sportsman thing to do. For money games, most of the time..... but not always. Its not unsportsman like, it IS the opponents duty to watch the shots. For money, if they arent watching I will usually just walk away from the table, but if they ask, I will tell them there was a foul.
Now, if you tell them no, there was no foul....... thats unsportsman like.
Gamesmanship is one thing, but honesty is a must.

Absolutely. Unfortunately I developed a bad habbit of always being honest when I was younger. I have even gone back into a store after I noticed they gave me to much change back.:( I was even given $300 back from my insurance company when they only owed me $50 and I told the lady and gave it back. Now that one I probably should of kept considering they probably have screwed people from time to time themselves. Yeah I definately should of kept that one!

I call my own fouls. I think its the right thing to do. I believe in the Pool God too and I play bad enough as it is without worrying about that.:)

You give intentional slug racks and don't call your own fouls.

Lets review. You give intentional slug racks and don't call your own fouls. I assuming Santa missed your home a few times.

Where I come from, we call it cheating, and it's likely to get you an airborne trip through the front door!

Yep, I call my own fouls. I usually don't say anything, just pick up the cue ball and give it to the opponent or roll it to him.

Yes, i do. That's the way pool is played around here and honesty can't hurt enyone in a long run eventhoug it might sometimes be painful.

Yes...for money or not. Personally don't want to win by cheating, and not calling a foul is just that imho.

Do the same thing when I'm playing golf, and thats where I learned how to play games.

If you want to win so bad that playing outside of the rules is the only way then I'm sorry for you.

There was this one match when I short-fouled the cueball and pretended it didn't happen. My opponent was very nice about it and just got up and put his hand down on the table before I could shoot.

I later realized that I pretended I didn't foul more because of embarassment than a cheating instinct. One of these corageous days I'll come up to him and say that.

Since then I ALWAYS call a foul on myself.

and this is the same guy

and this is the same guy whining about car dealers being foul on other threads.

Depends on the situation. Only three reasons I can think of:

Being the player - Absolutely.
Being the player while teaching - Absolutely.
Being the teacher watching the player - (people learn at different speeds. If they have a no idea of foundation, its hard to show the understanding how a shot feels; so that they can admit to fouling.) Not always.

The response of the stick says a lot. You can feel most fouls.

I think there needs to be more poll items. Depends on the situation I guess. I call my own fouls if playing locally and with friends. However if playing in a regional tourney and a guy is off grab assing in the corner or out for s smoke not during his turn then he deserves to not get the benefit since he is not paying attention. JMO. I should not be required to hold his hand through a match he should be watching intently to.

In our county fun league if a teammate tells you of a foul or that its ballinhand when you didn't see it, or were down on the next shot then the opposing team can call foul and take ballinhand away. It has happened before, causes controvery but its in the rules.

Have any of you ever NOT called a foul on your opponent when you both know there was a foul, but they didn't say anything? It happens in 1 pocket, and by calling the foul a ball will get spotted possibly screwing up the position you have. So I HAVE cheated by NOT calling a foul on the other guy to gain a perceived advantage.....if that counts.

You are either honest or you are not. That's the bottom line! My integrity is way more important than any game. I am very suprised at some of the responces here.
