Do you carry a towel in or on your case?

Whats the difference? The metal eye is only the size of a penny.

To the OP ....I keep one in the case. Why not have both?

Better yet....sell the one which hooks on the outside and if someone doesn't want to do that they can keep it in their case.... problem solved!

I just don't see the dilemma here with the exception of wanting a type of cloth thats not normally found.

If the overwhelming majority of people kept the towels in their case, then I was going to suggest that he doesn't worry about the eyelet. The towels are much easier to find without the eyelet so it would have made his situation much easier.

Since there are quite a few people that prefer to have the hook, then it is an option that he needs to have. This is the reason for the poll. Now that he knows that he needs to have an eyelet, he knows how to proceed.

It isn't a life changing "dilemma" but it is a time consuming, and possibly costly "dilemma" with which I was trying to help him with. Thank you for your input.
 
I use it to wipe off the cue when I am done and for those places that run out of paper towels or have those hand driers that never work.

I don't need the hook or eyelet as I pull it thru one of the loops for the straps.

Thanks to everyone that answered the poll, you've been a big help. Having already exhausted his search for the towels with the eyelet and knowing that the eyelet is needed, he was able to change his game plan.

He's located the towels (minus the eyelet) and has decided that since the eyelet is important to more people than we thought, he has ordered a grommet kit to do the eyelets himself.

After playing a few racks of one pocket with Barry and Art, Barry did something amazing...he went into the back of his shop and came out with an old T-shirt. He said it was his dad's and he cut me a piece. I keep it in my case to clean my cue before putting it away. That's all the towel I'll ever need.

Now that's a cool towel...! I keep a plain soft microfiber towel in my case for the occasional wipe down. Doesn't happen often because I normally keep my hands clean. Towel normally stays inside the case.

I carry a Simonis green towel on the outside of my case. I guess nowadays I should be looking for a blue Simonis colored towel.

A couple of thoughts: first, in a perfect world, I'd like to have a micro-fiber towel, vs an ordinary cotton one. Second, I, personally would nix the idea of any kind or grommet or hook -- if you're not paying attention, running a towel like that up and down your cue could mean an expensive refinish.

Lastly, beside the wiping down stuff, one of the bestest uses I've ever seen for a towel is something I picked up off an Accu-Stats match: the player comes to the table with the cue ball near a side pocket on a GC. The shot is ideal for a cue-on-the-rail bridge. Now if you've ever played on a GC (and who here hasn't), you know you've got to fade the metal pocket bracket AND (usually) the lip of the pocket liner. I think it might have been Grady who, when faced with this situation, just went and got his towel, laid it over the metal bracket and plastic pocket liner and shot away. It doesn't come up often, but I've done the same a few times, and it's a life-saver.

Towel

Seeing a towel attached to a cue case reminds me of an old joke about being a towel boy in a whore house. I can't even remember the joke anymore, but I still chuckle some when I see a towel attached to a case... :grin:
 
I use the wet towels offered at my pool hall. Having a wet towel available is more common here, I think. You open the sealed bag, use it and then deposit in the recycling bin for washing. It is part of their business. I never have to clean their tables as tables and balls arre cleaned for every customer.

IMO, if you are going to sell a towel, it would be best to sell smallish ones for inside the pocket like 6 x 6 or slightly larger like 8 x 8 or 12 x 12 in it's own case which clips to a case handle.

Towels on the outside will get pretty yucky quick, I think.
 
you can always buy the ones with the hook and if people don't want to use them that way, then they just take the hook out and fold it up for storage in the case.

Works both ways.

I always prefer one in my case, I do not like things hanging from the outside. Also the ones with metal rings or eyelets will eventually rust to some degree because I do wash them every couple of weeks.

In all my years playing Snooker and now Pool I have yet to actually pay for one though, as I use bar towels with the Brewers name on. I have a selection for my bar at home, everytime I go somewhere new and see a new brewery I always ask the barman if I could have one. I have never been turned down yet, as they generally get them free from the brewery anyway, I just use the ones I have more than one of.

Maybe that tip isn't what your friend wants to hear though if he's going to be selling them :rolleyes:

Youre kidding, right? Surely you don't leave a gun in the case at the pool hall... What if your case gets stolen? I'd have it on my person or locked up in the car. I had a pistol stolen once and it's not a fun thing to have happen.
 
I keep a towel in my case to dry my hands and to wipe my shafts down if I play for a long time.

I started carrying a towel about a year ago after a soda incident. This is the one I carry now. I cut it down to about 7x7 so it doesn't take up as much room, plus I don't need a towel that big.
 
I keep a 1' x 1' piece of T shirt in the case. I consider that a towel and a rag and a polish cloth.

Tell your friend to not sell towels that have a metal washer for hanging. They make terrible scratches in wood.
