Do you kick, bank or shoot straight in shots well?

Meaning do you kick a ball as good as you bank and shoot straight in shots? Or do you have problems with kicks and bank shots? Do you practice hard shots as much as you do easy shots? Thanks.

Back in the day, when it was workin', it was workin', I just shot the shot I saw.
anymore, not so much

I'm not telling. :D

I mostly practice with 8, some 9 and I'll throw in some short rack bank ghost games.

I sometimes rather kick or bank a ball than shoot a long hard straight in shot frozen on the rail.

To me shooting a long straight in shot is the hardest shot in pool

My weakest point would definitely be kick shots.

I have been practicing banks in my own way. What I do is throw a few balls on the table in between games and just take whatever bank shot presents itself. I tend to go for the thin cut banks, short angles, anything out of the norm. It helps me keep a stroke and I don't worry as much about whether I am making the shot or not since it's a bank. It started off as a way for me to kill time and has really helped my banks.

Banks are my most favorite shots. I believe most players would be better at the shots they shoot the most. I believe that the game you play the most can contribute to a preference in position routes as well. (e.g. If one were to play 14.1 exclusively for a year, their ability to be comfortable playing 3 rails for position may diminish due to the type of shots and position routes involved in straight pool.)

Kick shots are a luxury for me. I'd love to find a tape that teaches those.

I am a fairly proficient banker as I'm pretty fair at naturally seeing the angles and many just because muscle or shot memory. Still, John Brumbacks DVD is on my list.
I just don't want to bank, I want to be dangerous at it.

Straight in shots, crap, you tell me.

Very good input, Pad Lock. You look like you are going to be very good in banks and kicks. Keep up the good work! Thanks for your input.

Terry;

I love kicking, as you might expect. I shoot them by feel and this has been worked out over a long time.

I have had the absolute pleasure to get into some kicking games with Lil Joe Villalpando who besides being one of the nicest guys in pool, he is a lethal kicker and has a 'clock' system on dvd that has gotten rave reviews.

I'd highly recommend his system as a big, time saver.

Where the heck was Lil Joe when I needed him starting in the 70's.

Best,
Brian kc (kick lock?)

if i havent been playing for awhile i kick better because i use the diamonds and systems so as long as i still remember the formula (LOL) its easier to kick and get a hit than hit a perfect stop shot long in straight one

I get a kick outta bankin'.

..especially on a GC 1 with original Super Speed rubber.

I might be the only player on here who is batting 1,000 at full-rack banks.
..played a guy in St Louis when I was a kid...$50 a game.
I banked all the 'white flags' for 3 games...but he wasn't worried.
He could see I didn't know the moves....as we racked 'em for the fourth
game, the owner came in and walked to our table and said to my opponent
"I barred you!..now get the hell out."
I haven't played full rack since...hence the 1,000 batting average.

Kicks,Banks,etc.

In the old days before jump cues and the Ball in Hand after the Break, old timers knew the way out of a safety was the kick. If you expanded that to the Kick to the Safe, you had a real weapon in your arsenal. My hidden gem is the Kick to the Bank. I save that one for the special occasions.

Banking? I learned everything I know about Banks from a guy named Eddie. Nice man.

Straight in? In the old days we cheated the dang pocket to get an angle to stay away from those pesky critters.

my philosophy,"If the cue ball is resting on a piece of green felt,...I have a shot."

cajunfats(still doesn't own a jump cue)

Kicking is the strongest part of my game. I don't use any diamond systems. I just pretty much go be feel. I do use a parallel line system for 2 and 3 rail kicks. I feel like I have a pretty good handle on which kicking paths will give me the best chance of leaving my opponent safe or at least long. I occasionally play a game where my opponent will try to 3 foul me with ball in hand on every shot. It is very difficult to do.

It's just too bad I cant shoot worth a crap.

Hello PT109,
I thought you were double hemlock? How are you doing? Nice post!

I've become pretty good at kicking. Better at kicks than banks. I use diamonds for 1, 2 and 3 rail kicks and sometimes mirror for the easier 1 rail. Learning a system greatly improved my kick/bank game.
