If you own or have owned a Black Boar you are an interesting part of history.
If you bought a Black Boar either directly from Tony or first hand through a dealer I am interested in talking to you-whether you still own it or not! If you currently own a Black Boar you bought second or third hand I'm interested in talking to you too! Please contact me with your name, where you bought it, date of purchase, location, brief cue description (i.e. how many points, 4? 6? 8?, logo design, and any prominent features). Thank you for your time, and your help!
Sincerely,
The Black Boar Historian

I do currently own a BB (AS-8) and I think I know an interesting tidbit about the cues that I can share with you. I was once told that Tom Bordeon (sp.?) a semi-pro player out of Wyoming received the first BB shipped from Tony's shop. It was an AS-5 (I think) It had the pattern of 5 ivory diamonds (repeated 4 times) in the ebony butt with dash rings above and below. Tom sold it to Paul Baker, another fairly good player from Wyoming. I doubt that Paul would ever sell it, so I am sure he still has it.

I've owned 4 Boars. The room I worked in was a dealer back around 1992. At that time I could buy them 1/2 price, so I DID! by far, they are the finest cues I ever owned. I had 2 that were a matched pair...4 spear point, diamonds in the points, diamonds in the butt.

1 plain jane BEM, BEM butt nothing special but the finest hit EVER!

the best cue I ever owned> rosewood into straight grain maple 4 pointer with BEM veneers and a cue I purchased for $300 working at the room. I sold it to a friend of Jimmy Fusco during a tournament and regretted it ever since.

If I only knew.........

great post, Gerry

Black Boar is quite popular in my area. Tony is a local cue maker. I can remember when the Black Boars first came to the scene, and many players were ordering one because they were so beautiful.

I overheard Tony speaking to a pro player one year, offering to customize a cue for him. He adapts the cue to the individual player's stroke. I'm not sure how he does it, but he exerts great effort to do so.

Beautiful American custom-made cues are popular overseas, and they seem to gobble them up, without batting an eye. Ironically, the majority of American pool players enjoy purchasing a production cue because of cost in most cases. Cue makers like Tony do business overseas today, and from what I hear, it is a lucrative venture for them.

Located in College Park today, I had thought -- and I may be wrong -- that 20-plus years ago, Tony had a partner (maybe a brother) and was located in Baltimore, near Pimlico racetrack.

There are some Americans who purchase a cue as a collector's item. Recently, I was speaking to a local player in my area, and he told me he bought himself another Black Boar. He already owns about 100 cue sticks of all makes and sizes. I asked him why he bought another Black Boar, since I know he already owns several, and he said he didn't mind spending five figures on it because it is going to go up in value. To him, it was an investment.

Several years ago, Tony custom-made a beautiful shooting cue for WPBA Pro Sueyen Rhee as a year-end prize for being the points winner on the Planet Pool 9-Ball Tour.

Here's a picture of Tony of Black Boar, Keith McCready, and Nick Mannino, taken a few years ago in Alexandria, Virginia. Tony sometimes will make a cameo appearance and sweat the local tournaments.

I'm a recent Black Boar convert.......used to have 8-10 cues from various makers at any given time....and in constant rotation so I could try something new.

I hooked into the 4 point SIGNED Black Boar cue first....and immediately fell in love with it. Tony's making me two new shafts for it, as I write this. Tony told me that there are only a few cues out there with an actual signature on them....so mine is ULTRA rare.

Shortly afterwards, I bought my Black Boar Titlist conversion cue. Much like the 4-pointer....the hit is so sweet, it should be illegal!!! :) :) Bonus to this cue being...it's the only Titlist cue Tony's ever done!! You just can't get any more rare than 1-of-1 (Dale Perry cues notwithstanding!! :D :D ) Tony's gonna write up a letter for me on the Titlist when I go back up to pick up my other one.

Now I'm in the hunt for more. I really want to pick up one or two more older Black Boars. I really like the looks of the older model cues...and...by and large....they're a touch more reachable for me than Tony's "newer" cues.

LINKS TO BOTH OF MY BLACK BOAR CUES ARE IN MY SIGNATURE BLOCK.

Thank you all for time and responses! All of the information you've provided me is valuable and I welcome more!!

NICE!!! I had the pleasure of meeting Bob a few months ago. SUPER nice guy, had a wonderful Black Boar cue he was knocking around with....and was an absolute KILLER on the tables. His was one of the first Black Boars I had seen up close and personal.....and is partially responsible for my loving 'em so much!

BB owner

I got my BB in 1994. It was one of Tony's first batches of 6 point cues. I played all my life in Junior tournaments and Pro events grewing up. I went to college and spoke with Tony about my love of the game and getting me a new cue. My farther and tony are good friends and Tony cut me a great deal on the cue.

He had me stop by the shop and I had pick of the litter. A total of about 8 to 10 cues. HE was working with his brother and Vince Sagmiester at the time. We tried various lengths, weights, shaft diameters and I left their several balls better.

I was playing with a 59 inch scruggs and I got that lenght cue as a kid because my dad thought I was going to be tall and would need that length. Come to find out it was all wrong for me and hurt my game. Anyway, Tony charged me a Box of cigars for the cue being in college. "Just the type of guy he is" I am indebted to him for his time and generosity.

My dad has done a ton of stuff for pool and held numerous tournaments in the DC area and was part of the Legends of One Pocket team with grady. He really has done a lot for the sport many know and many don't

More about the cue it is 6 point ebony and tulip wood cue. it has over lapping points cut in so some may say it is a 9 pointer. It has a tulip wood ring on the bottom and looks like a modern willie hoppee.

I hope this helps and send me a PM if you have questions or want more details.

Thanks!

Kid

I doubt it. Craig is reluctant to let go of any of them. Although, I really can't speak for him on the matter. The best way to inquire about buying and selling of Craig's cues is directly to Craig through the site's 'Contact Me' page.

2004 Bb

I purchased an 8 Point BB from Tony directly in 2004. It was his "basic cue" and has the Scalloped Ivory butt cap, modern BB logo, SS Joint sleeved with Ivory and 16 pieces of silver in the Joint and shaft collars in a nice design. 8-Ball Rat gets upset with me every time I post pictures of it:D but here they are:

Yep....and you just keep rackin' up those anger-points, DJ!! How nice of you to go so far as to even change your avatar image to show it off a touch more!

It's okay....I'm a big boy....I can take it (sniff, sniff.....wimper, wimper).
