do you think by ball control plan is a decent plan

Sorry if this a double post
We are playing last pocket. It's my shot. I think I'm lined up if I make the right shot.

So I want to hit the 11 ball in the side pocket. I think I should hit it fairly hard and with follow and maybe a bit of right spin. Then I hope the cue ball would hit 3 rails and come back down behind the 8 ball and then I would have a strait in shot to the side pocket.

So how does my plan look.

Buy the way, I did not point the arrow at the exact point I would hit the 11 ball. I just wanted to give a general idea.

See the link for the shot

why not just follow it up a few inches and shoot the eight bottom left corner?

They were playing last pocket.

If it was me I would put a tiny bit of top left on it so it would stick between the rail and the 8, so you can cross bank it into your side.

Another option is to hit a smooth shot with a bit of left, so the 11 scoots up to the Top right Corner. From there its a long shot on the 8 but you dont have to bank.

OR.....This is being sneaky....

Dog the 11. Tuck the cue behind the 8 so that it blocks a shot on the 1.

Unless he can really Masse, then you should be in decent position to shoot the 11 down table, and follow with the 8.

wooops! didnt read that part. my bad!

What he said.

Exactly! What they said!

The less traveling around the q-ball has to do, the better! Plus bigger margin for error even if you don't draw it back all the way. In your diagram, if your q-ball doesn't get all the way around and ends up above the side pocket, you're in a world of trouble!

But what do I know, I couldn't play position if all my balls were in the pockets!

No matters how I am looking at this I see the ball going to the right and not left.

To me if I successfully draw the q-ball, the 11 would go far right.

And as for my shot. I, posted this question because I didn't know the answer. So I listened to all of you.

Then I posted my point of view. Because I missed the shot I know I made the wrong shot.

So that meas I am not sure how figure out where the ball will go after making contact with the 11 ball. I was hoping someone would give me some idea's on how I was looking at this wrong.

How about the safety? I would try to hit off the left side of the 11 ball, driving the CB into the side and back behind the 8-ball.

EDIT- Nevermind, after taking a better look at it I noticed the shot is straight in. Draw the CB straight back like others have said and you should be fine.

You would have to be there, down on the shot to know if the angle dictated your shot. As a general rule you want the cue ball to travel the least possible distance. To me the draw shot looks best because even if the angle is a little funny and straight draw would not work you could draw it off the long rail with a bit of right and be sure of a good shot on the eight.

Draw the ball. I would never shoot a 3 rail leave in the side coming across the path in a last pocket game unless it was my only option. Only take the last ball in the side if it is 95% to win the game. If you're not sure, I would cut the ball up in the top corner leaving the cue below the 8. At least then you haven't sold out the game for yourself.

Bottom line is I think you took the wrong shot.
