Do you think that most pool players are nice and cool with good attitudes, or not?

I do not know, but I get the feeling that a lot of pool players out there have bad attitudes, and in general, not very nice (at least to people that they do not know). I may just be too sensitive though, and easily get offended.

What is your experience, when meeting a new pool player, or communicating with pool players (about cue deals online, for example)?

Is your experiences with pool players mixed (some good and some bad), or mostly one way or the other?

Thanks for any thoughts about what you think of most pool players out there (about their personalities, and anything else that comes to mind)?

This is why I am so shy around pool players. I get the feeling that most of them just want to stick to their own clicks, and may not be very cool or friendly in general (and some have bad, or nasty attitudes). I have had too many run ins with pool players that have very bad attitudes (in my mind anyways).

I find that eventually everyone is pretty nice if I keep it nice.

If they aren't nice, don't take it personal. It's probably not your fault.

Depends on what you consider pool players, I feel that guys playing in a bar not as friendly as league players, league players not as friendly as tournament players. I'm gonna say as the skill level increases the more respect the players have for others in the pool world!

My experience has been hit or miss in league. Some people just aren't "nice" in general, but a lot has to do with how serious they are taking the game; in combination with how much alcohol they have consumed.

I don't take it too serious myself, so I don't typically get disgruntled during a match.

So, in that case, if I walked up to most pro players (and maybe said something short like, "Hi, I am a big fan of yours") at the Derby (for example), they would probably be friendly?

I had friends on opposite side of these "clicks" years ago. I dropped everyone of them. When I think of clicks, I think of a dog lifting his leg for each bush in a row. Don't be shy with the idiots. If they don't like you, the hell with them. Your life is just as important as anyone elses.

Off the pool table I find most players likable. Even the ones that aren't that likable I can get along with. It all depends on your character. Either way, don't let any one crap on you.
Old buddy of mine that passed away told me once, if certain friends and family make your life difficult and don't make you happy, let them go. They aren't worth keeping around.

Why do you put professional pool players up on some sort of pedestal?

To me, they are nothing more than regular Joes who just happen to play pool at a very high level.

Some Joes are assholes and other Joes aren't. It is as simple as that. It isn't something that is unique only to pool.

I have no problem walking up to or talking to anybody and I don't care what they do for a living. They are just people to me.

Quit thinking of people as some sort of "heroes" or something because they can do ONE thing better than somebody else. Can they do anything else, that makes some sort of significance in the world, better than other people?

Well, if I'm going to be completely honest I've never met so many jerks and a-holes anywhere else in life. Pool is a magnet to people who for some reason cannot get along with others or otherwise fit in. That being said, most people in pool are just regular people, but the jerks are overrepresented, and they do tend to take up a lot of space, if you know what I mean.

I'm a firm believer in the theory that you get back what you put in. If you are a positive and friendly person, positive and friendly people will find you and want to hang around you. Sadly some people will see that as a weakness they can exploit, but after a while you spot those people from a mile away. Just stay away from them and don't waste any time on them. That is the easy way of living. Lots of people insist on making their personal lives as complicated as possible. If you are one of those, you will find plenty of challenges in a pool hall, with the moochers, the gossipers, the criminals, the liars, compulsive gamblers, in house politicians and negative Nancys. Just stay clear, and now your life is easy again. Pool is meant to be fun and life is short.

Of every sport I have played in my entire life, pool has the most a-holes,cheats,and whining malcontents by far.

All you gotta do is read a bunch of posts on this forum and realize there is a lot of truth to what you said.

That's when they're working, I'd expect to be rude if I was working my job and earl came in and wanted to chit chat! To get respect you got to give respect!

Justin....your posting history leads me to believe you are a pretty sensitive guy....probably too sensitive which is not really a bad thing I don't believe.

Also you say you are pretty shy. Well take it from some one who used to be pretty shy myself to the point I was pretty much a loner except for my wife and kids. Dont lose any sleep over what other people think...say or do . The world is full of good and bad people and the bad aint worth your time.

As for pros. I have only spoken to 4 in my life. 3 were nice and 1 acted like he did not want to be bothered. I have never really thought of the one who didn't want to be bothered until I started writing this post.

As for league players. Well it depends on whether they won or lost playing you lol. No seriously I have only encountered a handful of a**holes playing league. With over 1300 matches in apa over a 7 year period tells me a**holes are a very small segment in my area. I dont lose any sleep over the ones I do encounter...i just ignore them.

ha you think that pool players are rude or toxic, you've never met a League of Legends player or been involved in there community. They are the most toxic horrible attitude driven people ever.

Sure pool players can be rude or snarky but in retrospect that's just how some people vent or even play. Its just more fun to beat them that way.

Honestly, depends on YOUR asnswer.

See most of the time it's gonna go like this : you walk up to player XXX and say " hello ", Playrt X says " What's up, so anyway whatcha wanna do and how much ?"

It is worth mentioning though - this is not every single player and you also have to remember while at these tournaments they are basically at work.........And yes imagree, better cisto, etc relations etc would be good for everyone but that's a different day.

I think there is some truth to this as pool is an individual sport, not like being on a baseball or football team where you can rely on others to bail you out, thus if you're not the most social type of person, you may gravitate to something like pool.

I think it also depends on the level of player. A social league or bar banger may be more friendly than a higher level player that takes his game seriously. Often times the higher level players are wired a bit tighter in general and may seem to be less friendly as a result. Doesn't make them bad people, just different.

I have taken many breaks from pool , some times for yrs. Mainly due to the sleaze, con artists, and my biggest pet peeve, drug addict high level players expecting to get treated like heroes, and many treating them as such .Particularly when they get just the right amount of dope and booze in them , and they call you out in front of everybody , because you beat them in the tournament . Idolizing drug addicts, drunks, and dumpers , IMO is the worst thing that ever happened to pool.......and unfortunately of those tryin to emmulate them many just became ignorant , rude, mouthy a-holes .

Keep in mind, as you get into pool, it's a game where it's you against the world. Even if you are playing on a team in a league it's just you at the table when you're playing. As you gain a little skill you almost become like a gunslinger in an old western movie. You walk into the room and look around and see who you need to shoot. As a result, there's a tendency for the game to kind of breed a cockiness among the better players.

Golf is a one person sport but doesn't have anywhere near as much attitude.
There's more to the equation than that with Pool Players.

I have me some great folks playing pool, and I've met some Aholes. It's a mixed bag just like where I work. I pretty much stay away from the Aholes. In some instances it depends on what part of the country you are playing in as well. There are some areas where the people are just not very friendly, and come off a little Aholish.
