When I ran our regional tour, we had a volunteer ref and a volunteer TD. I always tipped them both when I won a significant amount of money - i.e., came in 1st thru third. Other women did too. The staff contributed their time and did not have a lot of money, so we knew it was appreciated, just as we appreciated them.
Tonight, we played in a tournament that had over 32 players. I got $50 for high woman. I won 2 matches, then lost both of my next 2 matches hill-hill. 3 of us women (out of 7) tied and played a round robin and I won. The TD gave me 2 $20 bills, a $5, and 5 ones. He said it was for tipping. I told him Tipping was a city in China.
Would you have tipped for such a small amount? Do you tip the staff for running the tournaments in big tournaments?
BTW, Mike won the tournament, so we reprised our roles at the last Thanksgiving Day tournament there, where he won and I got HW then too.
