Doctor said No more Gambling

like others have said here JT ask your Doc about Atenolol. I was put on it at age 41 for an irregular heart beat......my Mom and Pop both take it also.

the only way to explain how it works is......you know when you are driving your car and you "forget" to pay 100% attention to driving.....you look up to see the car in front of you 2 feet away and ....FU#$^$%!!!!!!!....that rush of adrenaline feeling you get?....well the drug takes that feeling away.

My Dads Doc also sais it adds quite a few years to your life by easing the stress on your heart durig tough times...

good luck dude!

Who's doing the dance?

:dance::dance::dance:
The painter, the delivery man, the pool cleaning guy, the pest control guy and of course the postman.

But seriously the doctor's know best most of the time but not always.

Get a second opinion. You like gambling at pool too much not to get a second opinion.

Thank you all for the kind words and the jokes which were cool too. I am in no way giving up or stopping playing pool. I can give up the little gambling I do on the pool table now. What really will hurt is giving up betting dogs and watch my money go around the track on the net. Oh well, with the extra time I'll probably start writing again. Thank you all again. Johnnyt

Hey Johnny,
Back in May, I had an infection in my foot and apparently from some sort of bite. It was on my little toe to be specific. My foot and leg were very swollen. I got to the DR quickly which they cleaned up, put me on anti-biotics and in a few days, we thought it was over with. Only about two weeks later, it reappeared and worse this time. Went back to othe Dr and the same routne and in a couple of days we thought it was over with. To weeks later, back again. Went to the DR and this time they sent me straight to the hospital concerned that the infection had hit the bone.
This time they kept me there and 3 days later the infection was no better and they told me that I was scheduled for surgery the following day and that they wouold do all they could to save my leg. Now, they really had my attention and nobody had mentioned anything about this so far. I near S___ mt pants.
Well they wanted to try one more antibiotic and I guess it payed off to sme degree because they postponed the surgery for two more days and then took me in and amputated the little toe. It was bad, but, in this case, I was very reateful to still have my foot and my leg. It was all about what I had saved vs. what I lost. It has since healed perfectly and I don't even miss the dam thing.
About 6 weeks later I got the cast off and I was itcing to play some and just do anything at all. I went to the pool hall and got into a 1 pocket game. I'm diabetic and felt a litte queezy and didn't think a lot of it when BAM! I totally balcked out and hit the side of the table, totally ballcked out. I cracked my eye socket and broke my nose when I hit the table. The guy I was playing nearly had the heart attack.
I got to the DR and I had a slight heart attack. My blood pressure was incredibly low, but rebounded very quickly. Like you they told me to avoid all stressful situations as best I could. He told me to avoid the stress, but,,,,to enjoy life. That was about the most confusing information I had ever heard.
So, I quit playing,,,,,again,,,, for a total of 4 days.
Now I'm not suggesting you follow my plan at all because your situation sounds much more severe than mine, but, i think I can appreciate how you feel. I hope you do waht is best for you to continue with a safe and full life. SOme decisions we are face with seem so very critical to us and so very simple to others. All I'm saying, is do what is best for you and your family and please know I'm in your corner and will pray for you.
DO like you always have, Give em Hell!!!

Thank you all again. I will tone my life style down a little more now. If I tone it down much more I'll have to take my pulse to see if I'm still alive lol.

Ironman that was a very close call you had with the foot and the heart attack. Being a nurse myself for the last 13 years before retirement and married to one for 40+ years I don't trust doctors at all. I have seen some really bad screw-ups from them in the hospitals. Most nurses only think of the bad things that can happen with things that should be simple to treat. I don't think about all the good things they do. Johnnyt

Amen.

A good friend of mine has been in the hospital for the last two days. My wife has been with him the whole time and, I'm not exaggerating here, if she didn't stay with him and fight for him, he would be dead.

He had very bad back pain and a fever. They said it was a hernia and gave him morphine. My wife said that shouldn't cause a fever don't you think he might have an infection (he's 79).

They didn't want to give him antibiotics but she insisted until finally they called his doctor and he put him on antibiotics.

Then his doctor came in and took him off the antibiotics. His temp was up to 102.7 by this time.

She raised a stink again and so they put him back on antibiotics and ordered a blood test.

Sure enough, he had a bacterial infection in his blood. If they had kept him off the antibiotics, he'd be dead. No doubt about it.

To top it all off, his doctor shows up today (It was the on-call doctor that put him on the antibiotics last night) and wants to send him home. My wife says "you can't send him home with an infection like that, he still needs the IV antibiotics."

To which the doctor replied "What infection? He just has a hernia!" So she explains the results of the blood test to his doctor and he turns pale and says, "luckily I put him on antibiotics yesterday or he'd be dead by now." Huh?

Are you kidding me?

Dr.'s are sometimes weird. I've had 5 bouts with cancer. My prostate cancer has been in remission for over 7 years and I get injections every 90 days. Last week I went in to get my injection and the Dr. told me that I should consider stopping the injections since there are health risks and at my age I am not producing a lot of hormones. He said my "cancer is sleeping and if it should start again we will put it back to sleep." I said "absolutely not! I am not taking a chance on it waking up and then having insomnia!" I could hardly believe my ears. Up until then I had really liked him.

Johnny, you should have it figured out by now...a lot of folks here think well of you.

It's sort of funny Johnny. I had a very close call, but I have had many in my life. Mybody woldn't fight infection because I wouldn't fight and take care of the Dieabetes. Now, I do. I have changed my lifestyle completely. Not perfectly, but I lost 25 lbs and watch what and when I eat and have the bllod sugar and blood pressure well under control. The whole painful ordeal probably saved my life.

Besides, I lost that little toe and I'm a lot faster now!!!

You hang in there and fight em. You have the "HEART" to do it!!!!! From one old scuff to another, you know what that means.

I have to tell yua something that happened in there involving my nurse. Her name was Joyce and she was so ugly she would mae a freight train take a dirt road, but, what a sweetheart she was.

Anyway they had me hooked on that rolling IV rack and I smoke like a train. I was always grabbing the rack and headed to the elevator to go down and out to smoke. Fianally one day she stopped me at the elevator and handed me mt cell phone. I just looked at her and she said, "from now on take the dam thing with you, I'm tired of chasing your old ass all over this hopital"! I near cracked up laughing as she had the personality to get away with things like that.

Two days later they came in and chedked my blood sugar and blook pressure and off I went to go smoke. I was just inside the elevator when she came running up and yelled to hold the door. She yanked up my shirt sleeve and fired that needle with insulin into my tricep and the said, LOUDLY, "Now go smoke yourself to death"! One lady on the elevator I thought was going to pass out. SHe was an absolute riot, but in the heat of the battle, my mother couldn't have done a better job. I was so very grateful to her.

Stress can kill.

Maybe so, but apparently it can also save your life.

Like most "truths," this one requires more thought and integration.

It reminds me of "take a small aspirin daily to help your heart." That is true, but I've read that one aspirin per day also kills as many as it saves because of the increase in gastrointestinal bleeding.

I'd say Johnnyt has some decisions to make....may those be best for him.
