There is a type of plywood that uses Luan in it's make-up. It is commonly used for cheaper, hollow interior doors in many houses.

Looks like yellow Lauan to me.
The cue was made at Ariel shop on Ariel's machines, under Ariel's supervision by one of his apprentices (namely, me). Although Ariel did put his hands on the cue, I know more about the cue than Ariel does. You have been told everything known about the cue and guys here have tried to be helpful. Time to stop obsessing about the wood and just enjoy playing with the cue!
