does anyone really care if their cues are made from illegal wood?

My Friend, no one has attacked you as far as I can see. But you posted in an open forum and everyone has an opinion. If I might make a suggestion, you are taking this personally and you shouldn't. People are posting to the thread not you. Taking the worlds tragedies upon yourself will only drive you crazy and accomplish nothing. If you direct your passion to a specific concern though, who knows what you could achieve.

This is such a crazy question. I think we as people want all materials used in a sustainable way. In the first world, we convince ourselves that permits, laws, etc do this, but since politicians are heavily influenced by money and some by voters, are we really doing what is keeping this sustainable?

Then, we(1st world) push and threaten the 3rd world to do the same, but they are more influenced by money at lower levels, so it all roughly goes unenforced. Those in the 1st world who sleep well at night knowing you got papers...blah blah blah. Do you really think those papers mean you bought in a sustainable way? The Philippines would be a great place to get this right first. They have amazing wood resources compared to most of the world.

So, yes, I think illegal wood is ok at this point. I do thing we earthlings need to put some focus on what is sustainable. How? I don't know, but exporting liberalism isn't the fix, it is the problem.

Now ivory, I group differently. I think most new ivory is probably poached as legally hunted ivory is usually kept by the hunter. Also, outside of beauty, ivory has no positive material properties. Now Africa is a big place. Should we be developing sustainable ranching methods for elephant meat, leather and ivory? I think so. The demand is there. Cows are definately not endangered!

your smart like what you said....i like most of the replies you give....but why are people attacking me for asking a question? a simple yes or no would have done....but nooooo.... people cann't read and attack me and what I asked was a question not a statement....then now im on the defensive ...man this sucks.... like the reply

You must have paper thin skin, I don't see anyone "attacking" you. I get the feeling you're trying to phish for something.

I would be more concerned for the environmental disaster taking place in China where industries go completely unchecked in dumping toxins and chemicals in to the rivers and up in the air. This is on a massive scale like no other nation. An industrial juggernaut set loose on the planet and accelerating exponentially. Cuemakers in Philippines? pfft not even a blip my friend.

paying them off? is that legal? you made them corrupt..... by how? you paying them.....

By paying them does not make them corrupt, them ACCEPTING makes them corrupt. You cannot make an HONEST person to do dishonest things without force, Their actions make them corrupt not your actions.

You know full well that this is not a simple yes or no question. You have an agenda for asking it.

Don't try the guilt trip on this forum or standing on a moral pedestal because it will get you nowhere.

Do you provide CITES documentation with your cues? Some genus of wood is illegal to use even if it is from your own land. How do we know that when you cut down a tree you didn't kill the last nesting place of an endangered bird?

Sounds to me like you want to attack your fellow Filipinos here. I very much doubt that they are sending gangs of illegal loggers out to harvest wood for pool cues. I suppose they are sending divers out to harvest the abalone as well right? I know the cue business and it's not that lucrative to be able to hire all these people for those purposes.

I also know a little bit about adopting a holier-than-thou attitude on this forum. Trust me, it won't get you very far and will affect you negatively.

Just show off your cues and you will get business. Start preaching and you will get insulted.

You know now you make me out to be a villian for asking a question....first of all I don't think I am better than anyone....I was just asking a question no agenda behind it....just a question..... and for you to assume that I did well that makes and "ass" of "u" and "me".

I didn't post this up to start fights......and look it was a question....

as far as hiring people to be lucrative or not....wood that's not used can still be sold.... right? I mean I used to think screw the gov. I'll cut down all I want...... but I changed for my reasons..... I didn't want to preach.....not at all by all means.... becuase I know I will eventually loose customers in the long run but I didn't want to get attacked either just a question..... that's all it was.....

I liked the fact that there were some on here that just said I don't care as long as the cue is nice....... I mean a question....it wasn't even a political one..... I simply asked does anyone really care about the wood? I mean people coould have been ...yes , or yes and because.......or the other way no, or no and because...

then all of a sudden the question isn't answered and I get lectured.... mean come one...... if they didn't want to answer don't post.... people didn't have to skip the answer part and start justifying their position....people and families starving.....I mean I came from the same background and I lived it for many a years... I know what they mean by feeding families....

I used to do bad things to make money there and survive but it wasn't like it was still ok.. like I said it is a question for me cause I wanted to know what the norm was? because if people didn't really care...I mean really care.... then maybe I shouldn't either. get my drift.....

but if I offended you and others here for asking a question of importance to me.....from a business stand point...then I am sorry and I can say it to every poster here..... because I do care .... and for the last few post I did where I preached....man I was attacked.... more like getting slapped around for a question...like how dare you ask a question of this nature...... well now I know better .... there are things that shouldn't be asked....why? well I think because it affects other peoples pockets....right? or so I think.

so no more preaching to anyone....promise...
I will keep opinions to myself....and I don't want to down my fellow pinoys... I just personally saw some bad stuff there a month ago and I want to know if...at a business stand point should I care...? hence the question do you care?

And last I am sorry for everything....I will learn to keep my mouth shut of anything..... post cues and keep my head down and never again say a single word that might hurt ANY fellow cue maker. I'll let everyone do the talking. and no more preaching...

Nope i love wood .. LOL
So does my girl ..

thanks.... and by the way were you in the scorpion at gem city? I was wondering cause I forgot your number to meet up with you. I was there the three days in and out....cause I was going to peoples houses and showing the cues there and then back to the pool hall..

I don't know I guess sometimes....I just open mouth shove foot in....as far as attacked...if was more of ..if you lived here....knew what it meant to feed families...That was what I was referring to.... and your right I did take a few things personally and now I know I shouldn't..I live make mistakes and learn and move on.. but thanks for your post.

no permits are allowed to be given for indangered wood/trees I know that trying to legally move raw wood out of the philippines that are indangered is illegal ..... but should you pay them off...you make the government corrupt....you are the cause. by inabling them.....come on math ...do the math...1(official says no)+1 (you bribe) +1 (they take) = 3 (YOU MADE THEM CoRRuPT) live with the consequence ..... stop making excuses...you are the reason whey they are corrupt ...you pay them off. what do you think would happen if you didn't? more math for you? are you asian/ if so I thought we were smart at math and deduction? I can atleast connect the dots..... dont belittle my knowledge..... I AM PINOY ....and to make things better there and to stop corruption there....STOP PAYING THEM TO GET YOUR WAY!!!!!
akala niyo isang cano ako na walang alam sa buhay dian? ito ang sasabihin ko sainyo....kayo mga tayo na nagbabayad sa mga officials dian ...kayo ang dahilan ng corruption....

if you cant understand this....I can do kapangpangan, cebuano, ilingo, bantayanon, and some igorot....

I did live there and still visit....by the way why attack me when I just wanted to know if people cared? is that so hard or to much to ask for...yes or no.....

they tell me that 90 percent of the people making the cues from there DO NOT have all the permitts required to cut, buy, or to use these illegal woods for anything...they are essentially committing a crime to obtain these woods.....
Again, who are these 10%. Let's just name them. Let's just name the good guys.

I don't import woods from the Philippines.
You got me confused with someone.

You must have paper thin skin, I don't see anyone "attacking" you. I get the feeling you're trying to phish for something.

like I said in the last post I did....it was started with the if you lived here...or this is a third world country and you don't know what it means to feed hungry people in families......or something like that.. I tried to keep it simple...but didn't ....and I guess I got fedup by some of the PMS i got from some of those people..... and yeah...they cused me out.....so I replied like I did... but now I know to shut my mouth ...right?

Some of you guys need to play some video games to get the flaming wars toned down.

As to the question.

I do not think that using illegal wood for cues is right and I am not in favor of it.

By the way, you didn't ask a simple yes or no question. You asked for opinions. As far as I know, opinions don't end with a simple yes or no.

You also made it a point in your first post to attack the Filipino cue makers.

If you wanted a simple yes or no answer, you could have ended your rant with the title of your thread.
