I just bought a Hoppe style cue that does NOT have a bumper. I'm nervous I'll damage the the end of the butt as nothing there to protect it, plus I'm clumsy. Is there a way to protect it? It has an allen wrench bolt inside the butt. The open hole in the end of the butt is only like 1/4-1/2" deep. Any solutions? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Tnx

That was my first thought.
My second though was...lots of places sell a whole bunch of different cue bumpers...buy one that fits...move on.
If the butt cap hole is too shallow to reliably hold a bumper the weight boly can be replaced with one drilled and tapped for a bumper, or the current bolt can be drilled and tapped.
True Hoppe style is bumperless...IMHO...

Glue a standard bumper or rubber washer or piece of plastic (maybe a checker or some kind of poker chip) to a circular magnet, or just use the magnet.
I almost bought a bumperless JMW cue that was just fetching in every aspect but one.
I toyed with the idea and just couldn;t bring myself to doing it since I play with my cues
at the pool hall. My experience is bumperless cues are strictly for home pool table play.
You might want to think about getting the Digicue Blue for your cue. It doesn;t have to be
turned on, except for when you want data collection & would also protect the cue's bottom.
I don't know how well it'd function as a cue bumper due to its weight or how long it would last.

unless a cue is made by one of two or three guys, a chipped or cracked butt cap isn't worth any measure of stress.
i especially don't understand the guys who baby and fret about their stuff while smoking a cigarette and eating a bacon double cheeseburger.
