Does grip size matter to you?

How thick do you want a cue to be where you grip it?

To me long cues have always felt weird. Balance always feels strange.
sounds like a proposal to make a long cue with the same center of mass as the standard cue.

would that work for you?

My friend has a 3 or 4 inch mid-extension and I shot with it once. The moment I picked it up I knew it was all wrong and I couldn't make a ball. Completely threw me off.

I thought Meucci cues were relatively thin, and have a thinner collar size. I bought the Skylar Woodward bar box cue and it was PHAT. I had to get rid of it because I wasn't use to that kind of girth in my hand.... if you know what I mean

I was about to do the poll, then I noticed...The diameter where you grip will of course be narrower from the butt diameter at the end. I believe the OP is talking butt diameter. However, the title on the poll seems to specify "grip" location, and almost no one grips at the end of the butt. If the OP would clarify, that would help.
Where you hold the cue. Personally, I grip the very end of the butt with my little finger hanging off the end of a 58" cue.

Too me, the diameter of the grip handle is critical. Finding the one that fit's your hand is individual. I took many measurements to come up with the cuts/diameters of my handle. Keep in mind, my generation ran in too the Hoppe, leather wrapped butt handles. They were HUGE.

I have a few cues that are different diameters and I have to be cognizant of where I place my grip hand.

With the fatter ones I tend to creep my grip up over time as I play. Guess I am looking for what feels like the correct grip point to my subconscious.

I see lots of cues for sale, and virtually no one lists the thickness of the butt. Is it unimportant to you? Do the pros care, or do they use whatever cue is given to them?
I used to play McDermott and liked them, but after playing a thinner cue I realized that was the feeling I'd been looking for. I prefer a slimmer butt.

I've gone back to 1.26 to 1.27 range from 1.22 or so. I think the taper should be a factor too; I have cues with no taper in the sleeve and don't like that. I like feeling some increase in diameter.

What amazes me is that the entire range of grip sizes in this poll is only 1/10". Pool players are so sensitive...

I just recently had a conversion built from an old hoppe professional from the 50s. I kept it near enough at its original thickness. And its now 1.359 diameter at the bottom of the handle.

How does "no taper in the sleeve" work? Does that mean that the end of the butt to the top of the wrap is all the same diameter?

This is actually interesting, and something I never worried about.

I think it could be a factor if your a Top Player, who is trying to tweek equipment to perfection, for a tiny bit more advantage.

Sports equipment manufactures are always trying to come up with the next best thing.

Friend work at PING who make gold clubs. He and other employee got the latest greatest to play with.

Ping was using employee to advertise, as Golfer love new stuff.

1/10" is a huge difference .
That's .100.

The usual taper these days is .840" at the tip and 1.250" at the bottom on a straight angle .
The old school Meucci was around .840" to 1.275" on straight angle .
On a compound taper, you can have an .840" joint, fatter middle of the cue and still maintain 1.250" at the bottom while maintaining a more gradual taper the 10" or so of the cue .

The diameter of the bottom does not tell all the story .
