Does it annoy you??

Does it annoy you when random people who shoot a rack with you insist that they use their "special" house rules? ...or make remarks like "oh you have the advantage because the striped balls are smaller and weigh less than the solids"

god those people make me want to impale myself with my cue, then set myself on fire while cutting my eye out with a spoon.

anyone got any other stupid comments that you've heard?

Stay out of the bars and get to a real pool room!

Why?

It annoys me when people keep starting threads trying to get people to bash people.

I agree with Nostroke, get out of the country western bars and go to Bogeys! Unless YOU are one of the special rules people.

My guess is the later! LOL

woah yeah.. I do go to Bogies... just not all the time.... And no.. I play by BCA rules only.

I have been to purpose built pool halls and run into people like this too...

it annoys me when I can never get a straight answer out of anyone on these boards.

Ask a question worthy of one!

I encounter annoying people everywhere, I just don't focus on them. I do however notice people that are kind, talented, speak well of others...etc.

Start a thread about some of those people and you will get straight answers.

Have a great evening!

I've heard a lot of things...

but never anything this ridiculous!

I think they are trying to tell you ~ You are the one who is annoying. Your first post was just plain ridiculous and stupid, IMHO.

It used to delight me

It used to delight me when they wanted to play by their own rules, the weirder the better! After awhile I would maneuver around and use the same BS rule on them. Often they tried to reverse the rule but that I didn't allow. A lot of them looked like they had just swallowed a green persimmon whole when they were burned by their own rule!

If you are gonna kick their butt anyway let them use every oddball rule they can imagine, just remember them yourself for later use.

Remember the old rule. If you are in a ring game and you don't see a fish YOUR IT.:D

That's pure gold

But to answer the initial question: No, not the least.

Back in the mid 80's, I spent three years on the road and quite a bit of it in bars.

Each bar seemed to have its own set of rules.

Some of the rules I ran into were, to say the least, squirrelly.

So, I developed one rule to live by:

"I don't care what rules we play by, just as long as everyone is playing by the same rules."

yep... that's right... I'll make myself feel better by taking their money.

Remember the other old rule as well. If you're writing a sentence you're rarely going to have a situation where your sentence is going to make any sense if it ends with "YOUR IT"

I love having the weird bar rules foisted on me for the same underlying bitter, twisted and stubborn reasons that Hu and others have expressed

It usually isn't that difficult to quickly find a way to use them to your own advantage as there are of course always very good and simple reasons why these nonsensical rules were never practical or equitable enough to be used in the mainstream in the first place. It can of course sometimes result in a cue being broken over your head as you are down on the shot

One stands out in my mind.

I was playing someone for money years ago. He flicked the cue ball accidentally and then put it back and tried to line up again. I told him it was ball in hand. He said it wasn't because he did an essay on pool in high school and read that it was ok. I tried to explain to him that under some house rules that is fine, but house rules aren't actual rules of the game. It turned into a big argument with him mumbling stuff about how I thought he was stupid while everyone around the table telling him to shut up because I know what I'm talking about

Ooh another one already

The other week I was playing APA 8 ball. I had beaten the other teams player in a game w/ the cue ball rolling straight up the center of the table and I grabbed it before it stopped. The captain yelped out that she would call a foul if I did that again. I told her that if it was anywhere near a pocket or ball I wouldn't of touched it. I know it's a rule, but that really rubbed me the wrong way.

If I happen to play her in a match she will see me being a serious wiseass. I'll put my nose 3 inches away from the cue ball and follow it till it stops and then pick it up.

It doesn't annoy me...I just play by what ever rules they want. I find that when people make up rules or use "special" rules they aren't all that challenging.
