Does This Constitute Being a "Nit"?

i get a call last night to come to the local room and play some partners 8-ball with my friend against these two other guys that we play with all the time. this is the first time we had ever played scotch doubles against each other though. we played race to 5 ball-in-hand eight ball. we couldn't get our games together and they could not do any wrong and we lost 6 straight sets and we quit. then we had to listen to them gloat.

next night (tonite).....

same game, same bet. they win the first set. we win the next set. we win the next set again and THEY QUIT! i asked the one whose idea it was to quit to play me some heads up and he wouldn't! they played against each other instead of playing us or me alone! i have seen some nitty sh*t in my day and this is near the top.

is that nitty or i am wrong?

I always go tell people like that to go knit a quilt to cover up their p*s*y!

I dont know if you can say that in here but everyone should understand that LOL

Yes thats nit worthy as it gets! They probably figured they lucked out the night before, and did'nt want to give it all back. Next time, make them play for the amount you lost the first time, then you can at least get even, or call them a cab for Pussville..................Gerry

I am sometimes under the influence in my area. Yes, you can have them.
 
Sometimes You got to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em, know when to walk away and know when to run. They have your money and didn't want to give it back:D

Anyway, maybe they are "nits" But I always set up a clear amount of games to play before I bet, nothing more nothing less, this is the only way to be sure someone doesn't run out on you or the loser wanting to continue to try to get back his money when it's 1:00am and you want to get home.

I have seen many a fight when guys win a bunch of money want to bail and the loser gets pissed and wants to play more, so I always set a number of games or sets, even against friends with little money at stake.

Never had the "nit" problem otherwise you always have the "hey come on lets play again" "double it again" or "You guys are p%ss#$"

should go, YOU HAVE TO COVER ALL THE DETAILS, and not assume
anything. They probably just thought they were being smart.

Yes, they're nits.

That being said, why is it that in pool , you can't seem to quit winners, but in poker, you can step into a cash game, and step out the moment you're ahead. Nobody seems to get bothered, and everyone seems to say "he's smart."

What was the bet?

Yes it was a nitty thing to do.

But they may have been looking at it like this:
(Not defending their action just trying to see it their way)
You played the first day they won you quit end of game, they were required to playas long as you wished, because of the only the loser can quit aspect of pool. You quit end of game.

Next day you play again new game they lose and quit being the looser for the second day. In their eyes the lost so they can quit because it was a new game, not a continence of the game from the day before. again not definding them they were wrong.
What will be real nitty is if they will not play that way ever again, or wont to change the game so they get a spot.

I use to play a guy one pocket getting 10 6 he beat me like a drum for 2 years. I started playing better he played me one game he lost $20 and said we have to play even now. Keep in mind I lost thousands to him over those 2 years with 10 6. he lost 20 and wonted to go back to even, not 10 7 or 9 7 back to even because he lost 20 bucks.

I don't care whether they were knits or knots it was up to you to figure out that you couldn't win any more the night you lost and up to them to figure out if they couldn't win anymore the next night. It just means they were smart.

The night you wanted to keep playing they were up, so they had nothing to lose by keeping on playing you, the next night when you were up, they realized that if they quit then they could still end up ahead, so they did the smart thing. If the shoe was reversed, you could've done the same thing.

IT IS ALWAYS UP TO THE PLAYER to figure out when to play and when not to play. You can't blame it on anyone else. There are many times I've played someone, won and or lost teh first set and quit. The problem that pool players have with that is that they often times like to sand bag. Well that's up to the player as well, if they want to sand bag they better be damn sure they can keep the opposition playing or they were stupid to sand bag. Can't blame anyone but yourself.


I know a guy, AWESOME player, but he gambles. HE can beat almost anyone on a pool table, but he'll take the money he wins and goes and plays blackjack or craps or roulette until he loses it ALL, Stupid, All he would have to do is play pool but no he has to go and lose it on stupid ass bets.

He has to constantly have a backer too cause he can't hold onto any money.

Those are all choices that are up to the player.

In poker they get pissed if you snap off a few good pots and get out quickly. It has to do with the competition thing. I think that we intinctively expect a competition to last until the game is over in organized competition or until the other guy/team gives up. Pulling up winner is kind of like quitting at halftime and claiming victory. Deep down, we all believe that a man is beat when he won't/can't come back for more. I prefer to play until my opponent quits or until I do. The only time I ever quit winner is if I am too tired or sick to continue and then I offer to post the money to continue playing another day.

I just don't give any more action to anyone who quits me or acts nitty. I expect full disclsoure when I match up. I don't want someone to tell me they have a prior engagement or any other BS. Just get ready to play until the cows come home or make an agreement to play for a specific amount of time/sets.
