Dominiak Cues?

I was going to ask what the wait time was. Is 7 weeks about the average wait?

I think it depends on how many Bill has on back order ,if you order something other than from what he has on the shelf.

I bought mine a while back and I also love it. The quality is definitely better than any cue you can buy for $99. Only complaint I have is the taper that comes on the cue. The taper to me was really short so I had the taper lengthened and installed a moori medium. The cue had a really stiff hit, very solid.

I send my MO off today for a 1020. I was going to go with the black phenolic but it was going to be a couple of weeks wait but he had one in Mahogany so going with that. Going with the short taper also.

Question for the people who own one:

Did you change out the tip to something else and if so what did you go with?

I kept the same tip, I have been happy with it so far. It holds chalk very well. I was going to e-mail Bill and ask him what brand he uses just for my own information. Maybe someone else knows.

Triangle

And I have never played with a triangle, was thinking about sending him a Moori Quick to put on it.

I thought he told me it was a medium Triangle tip. If my memory serves me.

I think Triangle tips are classified as "hard" if I'm not mistaken.

I would've sworn it was a LePro on mine but then I haven't seen a Triangle before. It feels harder than the LePro that was on my old El Cheapo but I've gotten to like it. Once shaped to my liking & scuffed up from time to time it does give a lot of control.

I sent a Moori Q in with my MO

I really love Snipers but have taken a liking to harder tips.

I know this is a dig,,
but I got to know ,
it was mentioned that dominiak shaft play similar to Pred.314-2 ,
my question is which has less deflection the 314-2 or the d2 ??

the d2 is not a low deflection shaft. yes it is laminated, which has nothing to do with deflection, but it is pretty much standard construction in the front end without any of the weight removal needed to reduce deflection. not saying it isn't a nice shaft, but it is nothing like the predator.

Dominiak Shafts

If you want to know about their shafts, you should talk to Bill. Recently purchased one of his Curly Deluxes... and he is making some 'slight' changes to the Dominiak II shafts, probably going to start calling them the D3. It has a phenolic insert in the shaft (the pins in his butts are now being set in phenolic as well). He uses an Aegis II ferrule @ .625" I believe, and standard a Moori tip (I had a Talisman medium put on mine).

I have an old Predator 314 shaft 3/8-10 pin from several years ago and a Tiger ultra X LD 3/8-10 that I purchased recently.

I like the Dominiak. It is a bit unforgiving in that it responds best to a good stroke (but isn't that true for most cues). If you have a solid fundamental stroke it works REALLY well. It has a longish pro taper (15" or so IIRC). Mine is in a 30", so's the Tiger BTW. For the cost, I'm very impressed.

Compared to the Predator, the predator feels 'kinda' neutral (it still has the original tip, which I probably need to change). Some might call it dead, but with the predator when you amp up your stroke, it responds with liveliness, but on soft hits - ehhh...

The dominiak is solid and true at all speeds. You amp it up (and stay true to your stroke) the ball fires in, you hit it soft and still have great feedback. You pick that back end up and pinch the ball, it will let you know.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. BTW - I have no dog in this fight, like working with Bill (he was very responsive) but I get no scratch out of it.

Oh yeah, Personally, I like dealing in the USA, keep my $$ at home, but that's me.

Thx fellas, I appreciate the help. 1 more thing before this thread pushed back to the archive..

Im a sucker for LD, I just bought the OB Classic, it shoots great, unless you try to hit them hard then it seems to veer off. I think a kamui black soft could change that......

Im usually playing with my Z-2, but also have a I2, and G-Core(12.5), I was considering the D3, but fear if its not LD ,itll not play to my liking.

Maybe ill get the ferruless Cash shaft, does anyone have a opinion on which has less deflection , the Ob Classic , or the Cash ferruless shaft ????

that hit 'em hard thing you're talking about, for me has to do with my stroke. When I amp up my stroke, if I don't stay down, level and follow through, it veers off, no matter which shaft.

I've got:
Dieckman (2 original shafts)
Dominiak original
Dominiak DII
Predator 314
Joss (original)
Mcdermott (original, but turned down to 12mm)
Meucci (original pre dot)
Meucci Red dot
Meucci Red dot (with a different Ferrule and Tip)
Tiger Ultra XLD
Custom cue (from a small maker primarily for my wife)

And they ALL do the same thing. At some point, at least for me, it's the indian not the arrow. Just keep that in mind.

ultra pete

Is this just a plain Jane of the line? Any different playing characteristics? It's the wrap that I don't like - no wrap is best for me.

Thanks

I had also a lot of cues including Predator. Dominator II is a low deflection shaft, very close to 314 2 as deflection, but way better regarding feel and feedback. i am sticking with this one.

My Fanciest Alex Brick Cue has (2) Dominator Shafts and I
Love the way they feel ... Much better than any Predator I've owned.

Dominiak XLNT CUE and service

I purchased the Ultra Pete and had much time to compare it to 3 of the other most famous shaft's / cue's now on the market. Absolutely a magnificent player relative to all cue stick manipulations and functions. William is a professional, easy to communicate with and a truly dedicated businessman with a beautiful and technically advanced product. I will be acquiring another cue from him soon after discussing some of my specifics. A better professional cue could not be had at any price. Definitely belongs in the winners circle ! Thank you Bill
