Anyone else tired having to play a!@holes in your local leagues who believe they're "only a step away from the big boys" so they do anything during a match to prove it. Let me set it up for you... I'm playing in an a+ league mind you, not even masters division. I'm playing the top dog in our league and he fouls. He missed the shot on the foul, so i'm up. He walks away without saying anything, so I get up and wait a second before approaching the table. As an ethical player, he comes back and asked if he fouled the hit and I said I thought so, but I wasn't going to cry if he didn't think so. He then picked up the cueball and handed it to me politely, probably because he knew it was a foul in the first place. Apparently his buddy had a different view, because he turned into captain A hole. I took ball in hand and ranout, thank you very much. Next match, I play capt. a, and he fails to drive a ball to the rail after missing- FOUL. I asked if it was ball in hand, and he says no. I said nothing hit the rail, and he says 'the cue ball did". The guy turned from the table and didn't watch anything happen so he had no idea if he was right or wrong. I played it where it sat, and moved on. He then starts to spout off about how lucky our team is and that he can't believe they were losing to us. None of us could shoot for crap, and we must have went to church before showing up. He slaps my buddies hand instead of shaking it after their match, and tells him he got lucky. Here's some advice for those of you who act like this...GROW THE !@#$ UP! Quit crying about how lucky your opponent is and learn how to play.If you can't do this, please take up another sport where we players that respect the game and each other don't have to put up with you anymore. Sorry for the long rant but that dude really pissed me off. B y the way, we are in first place by 9 games and they're mired in the pack. Boy, when you're lucky, you're really lucky I guess.

You wait one da@& minute. You mean there aren't 1.4 million players a half ball below Johnny?

Super easy solution. Ask them if they want to gamble after the league. I've made a believer out of a few people from my league. Once you do that, no one will say a word to you.

Pocketwolf...I guess it is not wise to "descend to the other guy's level" but it can be FUN and EFFECTIVE.

What he did was based on the fact that the league TD can't watch all games at the same time and therefore, the players can't call fouls except by the honor system.

But, if that ever happend to me, when I got back to the table, I would pick up the CB, lock it up behind an OB, walk away from the table saying "Your turn."

BUT...I would only do that when I play at places where I have several people who concern themselves with my personal safety!!!

The last jerk that acted like that to me here is what I did. I waited until it was quiet and everyone could hear I then challenged him to post $500 up on our next meeting in the league, my team against his for the cheese. He had no choice but to take it or he would have made himself look like an ass after saying all that same kind of crap. They never got a game, and he never acted like that in front of me again.

I like it!

A safety is how it started. I locked up the first guy I played after watching him run 5 off in eight ball very confidently. I hit my first shot, but was on the wrong side of my OB to finish the run, so I locked him up. This is when the fouls and fun began. I do recall hearing capt. a--hole saying how he hates it when players shoot like that. Apparently he hasn't found the joy of a good safety. Not too worried about the safety thing, I handle my own affairs accordingly. Thankfully it doesn't happen too often, I left that with my youth whenever possible.

I've had a lot of people do that to me.

The latest one was in hour weekly 8 ball tournament on Monday, I was playing an older man in the semis and played leave on him multiple times in a row. He finally got so mad that he just busted up the clusters and gave me ball in hand..I ran out. He refused to shake my hand because "he doesn't play that chicken-sh** pool," to which I responded "and that's why you lost."

I'm only 22, and luckily most of the respectful players around here have somewhat taken me in as their 'intern'. So they are always with me and I hope they would back me up if it ever comes down to that.

Funny...the better you are, the luckier you get. Amazing how that works! Occasionally someone will say "nice game, Lucky"...I say "lucky to be playing you..."
:p

I do empathize with players who want to play the game correctly, by the rules and have an enjoyable time doing it.Whenever I read posts about bad behavior I just think that pool is meant to be a game for "sports". Guys and Gals that want to win with fine style and grace. And yes, playing lock-up safeties and being quick to admit fouling, even when the opponent did not see it, is a big part of style and grace at the table. That is what pros all have a good degree of, and if one is not blessed with the talent of a pro they can at least pay homage to the game and be gracious when playing it.
I play in a straight pool league in NYC where every player is a sportsman. Some are pro level and some are middling but they are all good sports and everyone treats each other with respect. I count myself lucky to have the opportunity to be a member.

Last year in league I had a guy who broke and ran 7, missed the 8 by a hair and left it hanging in the side pocket.

I then shot playing his leave over pocketing my ball for the rest of the game left him 4!!! shots on a duck 8 and he didn't get anywhere near it. then once I had a run out I took it and won.

He refused to shake my hand told me he had never seen anyone so LUCKY in all his life,, our team sucks,, yada yada and walked off all pissed.

Haven't seen him since and we play them for the first time this season on Wed. I am just praying he runs 7 again LOL.

Pocketwolf that is exactly why i don't play league.your right on about Captain assh//e they are everywhere.

Some examples I have seen:

Players are tapping the eight to the rail trying to freeze it.
Player A taps, B then quickly looks at it and says "it's froze", then taps again, then says "it's froze" again. A calls a foul, B says "No, YOU have to call it froze". A does not pull off a safety, B wins the game.

I know a player who did this more than once. Opponent has the option of leaving a bumped object ball (by hand) stay where it is, or move it back to where he thought it was before the bump. This player would put the ball in a spot that took away the intended shot, even if it is a foot or more from the original spot.

just woof at him to gamble with ya. Worst ya can do is lose, trust me if his ego is that big all the pressures on him

At one time or another We will all lose and most will not be happy about it.
When Real losers lose they make Excuses, When Real players Lose they just lose.

Sadly, I have to agree with this. It's the prospect of playing people like this again and winding up in the same kind of situation is one reason, out of many, that keeps me from playing, though I've been asked many times since moving to the South. The behavior of a great many league players is despicable, and they don't seem to learn from their mistakes. If you beat them gambling, they still think they are right.
