I don't think that linen is dyed black in the stuff they are spitting out now.
It really is a shame.......their D black stuff used to be the nuts.
Pretty much crap now........ in color and the way it machines.
I hope someone from Atlas reads this and makes some changes.
Sad that we were are held hostage by this stuff.

We have a supplier that will make the double black phenolic but we'd have to buy 10K feet. We just cannot justify that.

My experience

I had a cuebuilder build me a cue and the butt showed some similiar linen showing through as this one has. I was really disappointed as this cuemaker is often selected as one of the top makers and to let this one get out like it did was disappointing.

Knowing now, I would have sent it back, but after a long overdue wait, I didnt want to sent the cue back.

Eventually, after playing with it for a while, I sent it to Scot at Proficient instead of the cuemaker, (who wanted I think 400 for a refinish) and Scot got the butt completely black solid without the linen showing through.

I understand that you shouldnt have to do anything to get that way, but I am not sure how it was done but it turned out perfectly. So it can be done.

Maybe its better I dont know how he did it ........

If you shop around there are others places to get black phenolic....

This is what I'm talking about being held hostage.........
What the fungu are you going to do with that much unless you are going to retail. They already are raping us on price and unless you put a co-op together you can't deal with the big suppliers. Who has time to chase that down?
You would think the *least* they could do is supply us with a decent product while we are stretching our hammies and holding our ankles!
Or in my case.......have my hands on my knees!

i don't think most folks mind the weave in the linen showing, they just want it to be a consistant black. this rod isn't consistant anything. the next piece i use off of it may be ok. may be worse. you think scott has bottle of black shoe polish in his shop?????

Brent if you think the double black linen is nice  then you should try what they sell as new Aegis.

Atlas phenolic maker has changed ownership.
The new owner wants to make them fast.
So he cuts corners and even uses a faster drying epoxy.
So, you get the crappy phenolics now.
And the micarta sheet? Looks like pee now.
That I heard and I don't know if I should doubt it.
When I talked to Chad in 2004 at the BCA, he said they might be changing phenolic supplier.

Around 1996 or so they were selling double black that after turning looked like wood grain. Over the past few years it's all gone downhill though.

Maybe if enough of us comment on it they might consider changing. Of course, that would justify (to them) a price increase, as usual.

That was the nice stuff!!! I still have a couple small pieces of it for joints.
I cut off a piece a while back and sent it to them wanting someone to go through all the stock hoping to find a left behind rod somewhere.
It got lost and nobody knew anything about it!......very suspicious!!!!

Honestly I dont know how he did it but I didnt want any of the weave to show. It was spotty and not consistant.

If shoe polish worked, Im tickled.

Anyone tried the new darker natural linen yet? Is it even available yet?

I just received some of Atlas' Mahogony colored LBF and it looks very nice:

I have it in the Butt Size and the Joint Size. For those of you who need just a small amount I will send you a 1 Inch Piece of Each for Only $15.00 and that includes postage for USA Customers.

Good Cuemaking

From what I have understood from the people at Atlas. Their company makes it all. Atlas Fibre. This is just what I have been told. Butterflycues
