Draw helps pocket!

What bob said. The speed is the most critical thing. If two shots are travelling on the exact same line and the same speed, there probably isn't one situation in a million where the rolling ball drops but the sliding ball stays up. I am still curious about get-in spin though.

I don't think there would be any reverse on the OB for more than an inch or so.
The OB could skid to the pocket if using high center ball on a straight in shot.
The shot would be hit very hard, or the OB close to the pocket for that to happen.

The only thing that helps pocketing balls is hitting the pocket cleanly, regardless of spin.

Now if you have an object ball close to the rail, a little inside will make the object ball spin so that when it gets to the pocket, the spin is taking it into the pocket, not away. If you miss hit it a hair wide, but still at the face of the pocket, the ball sometimes will not jaw up (hit easy, not hard).

IMO you should hit the CB center, touch of draw, or touch of follow...no side spin if not needed for position. A touch up or down with pocket speed to medium speed makes very little difference. Whatever feels good to you...do it. The speed is way more important in pocketing balls. Johnnyt
