Dress Code Question

Does the DCC dress code allow players to wear hats?
Taken from the DCC website found here

Dress Code "C" (Casual) Strictly Enforced: The Derby City Classic is striving to attract sponsorship outside the billiard industry. Please Dress to impress. Use good judgment. Cotton slacks, blue or colored denims, collared shirts. Plain t-shirts or the like, designer warm ups, sweats, shorts of any kind, or headgear will not be allowed during competition in the tournament arena. Any player who reports to a match and does not meet the dress code will receive a verbal warning from the tournament director. The player must then correct the fault and be ready to play in a specified period of time. Failure to comply may result in loss of match.

Thanks Timberly. I had looked up the dress code and read what you quoted already, and what's not clear to me is whether by "headgear" they are referring to the controversial stuff like headphones (a la BJ Ussery), or if they really do mean to include hats.

One reason why I am unclear is because I have seen players in the past at the DCC wearing hats (e.g., Dee Adkins), so I'm looking for someone who knows for certain to clarify whether they still allow that (I've e-mailed the DCC folks three times asking them to clarify the part of the dress code you posted with no response).

I can speak from experience. The dress code at the DCC has rarely been enforced in the past. I have played against players in sweat pants with holes, dirty t-shirts etc.. They were a bit more strict on the TV table.. Maybe this year it will be different, I hope that they do up the standards. We will see.

Hey not much info quickly but in two weeks I will be at Viking tour championships and will be glad to ask Scott Smith and let you know then, he will be the director for both events. Leonard

That would be terrific. Doesn't look like I'm going to get any reply from the DCC folks.

Thanks for the help.

ck out the www.derbycityclassic.com site under the Rules section...We're trying to get the site more clear...Sorry....

I also have seen everything from sweats, tee-shirts, hats, and good ole boys who look like they just got off the farm tractor. I think it needs to be enforced a little better. Sorry to mention the "I" word, but if nothing else, the IPT showed us a little class as far as enforcing dress code and overall production quality.

The IPT also showed us how not to pay the participants. I'll take the differentiation in attire anyday. Greg has earned the respect of virtually everyone in the billiard community for not only turning out the best product in pool table market but also for running the premier event for everyone in the pool community, not just the pros. The event is about pool and not about flash and flare. I appreciate the effort that Greg and staff put in every year and I can't think of anything off hand that demands drastic change.

You can have your IPT.

Tim,

I have to admit I'm guilty of not being hard enough on several things at the DCC, especiall dress codes. I wish every player would step up their dress at least one level...... I don't really think it's kept me from getting a sponser to help and raise the money the players are playing for, but who knows!
I'm not trying to make the DCC a format for professional pool, but rather a gathering where average players can rub elbows with the best players in the world......... I really want everyone to be comfortable when playing, but still they need to realize that dressing up a little could help pool in the long run. ...... I'll try to do better in enforcement, but I'd like everyone that feels like you do to help me by asking (in a NICE way) someone they think needs a little work why they don't step it up a notch. They may have a good reason......Anyway they will know they are on the stage and somone is looking! Greg/Diamond.........................I'm back on, having second thoughts asking help policing my own tournament....Maybe I should do it alone. Seems I'm always asking for help to make the DCC better. From Bob Jewett, Paul Frankel on n on...,but that seems to be working......If concern from ones peers is expressed it may, again may do more good than me imposing rules.....Anyway, We'll see what happens!!!!

I've made no secret that I'm one of the DCC's biggest fans and will trip over my own feet to defend it and promote it...

Ktown, you make me proud! I couldn't have said it better myself. ;)

Care to join the cheerleading squad?!?! :D :D

Oh, and I heard a rumor that new members of the squad get free beer from Timberly. You better bring your wallet.:D

Haven't you heard?!?!? I'm a LUSH!! I spend more on beer than I make in a year!!

LOL, the first beer (for you) is on me. Welcome to the team ;)

:p

Cheers. If there is a free beer involved you can be sure I will find you there.

As long as I don't have to wear a skirt. Trust me, you don't want to see that.

Just so everyone who felt like posting on this thread knows I wasn't asking about the dress code because I wanted to be able to dress like I just got off the farm tractor.

LOL, I never thought that. I assumed it was one of two things... you wanted to wear headphones and/or a hat. ;)

Judging by your avatar, I assumed the question was regarding a hat. I personally wouldn't care if you dressed like a farmer, as long as you make balls. It worked for Luther Lassiter.

Greg,
Thanks for the kind reply and for not ripping me a new one. I want it to be clear that I think the DCC is an excellent event, and I will always try to attend.

Pssssstttt.... Bald is sexy.. Just ask LL Cool J. He used to wear a hat because he had some issue with hair growth.

Then, he stopped caring.
