Drivermaker Holiday Invitational - post scores here

You might also get those awards, not so much for "bowliards" but for knocking off OHB at the DCC in straight or 8ball. I think he's waaay too tough for you in 1pocket or 9ball. After going to Danny D and Mark, if you did that, we'd ALL be running for lesson...seriously!! You gotta at least try it when you're there.

D'maker,
It doesn't sound like he is interested in my straight pool proposition, and I can't even spell nein bahll. Besides, I'm much more interested in watching the best in the world have at it. Last year I was there for 2 1/2 days, slept 4 hours, watched pool the entire rest of the time (eating junk food at the venue, serving as gofer for a couple of my professional friends who were competing) - I'm serious about pool. I do, however, plan on looking him up when I'm in St. Louis when I'll have a whole long weekend to play pool.

Hey Guys,

I finished all the racks and my final score came out to be 1886. I would just consider that at the pro level. I do not think i'm at the height of my game anymore, but I can still hold my own. Family VS Skill. In the end I would rather have my family, but dame I miss playing at the top of my game.

That's strong! Wanna give us a glimpse at who's behind the sunglasses? I'm going to bet everything I own that it isn't Mark Tadd. PM if you wish to keep it hidden...I won't tell.

Yeah, I know it's impressive. I just didn't want to blow his head up so that he'd leave his family again to go back on tour.

oh, sorry, forget what i said, that score is terrible, just plain terrible. i'd recommend taking up ping pong with scores like that. :D

No i'm not Mark you where right about that, but I have played him in tournaments. I would sometimes go on the road with Danny Medina, but that was years ago. :)

Very nice, now I've got a score to shoot for. (This is for you drivermaker) ................This just in, a blizzard has hit Kingman, Arizona, with a wind chill of about -50 degrees. There has been one casualty reported, a man was found in a garage with a pool cue in his hand, apparently trying to finish one more rack before the storm hit. :D

Who said Arizona was a warm place to live? Is this like a Tsunami wave of cold air that rolled in? At least you know where there's an open table now...buy about 4 space heaters and put it on Willee's tab. :D

I remind myself of the radar operator on the movie "Airplane," where he's watching the plane and says, "He's up, he's down, he's all over the place---what an asshole!" :)

Chef,
This brings up the eternal question (seen to a greater degree in golf I think) when analyzing variations in performance. Which one is the "real you"??? When you birdie a hole then double bogey the next hole; which performance is more indicative of your skill level? Tiger Woods parred the hole that you birdied; you are capable of that level of play, perhaps you are even better than Tiger. Is the birdie the outlier, or is the double bogey the outlier?

I've always been an optimist, so I see any success as an indication that I'm capable of better play, any failures are forgotten quickly (in golf this is the only way to maintain sanity). The beauty of pool is that you can get to a certain level where it is mainly success all the time (at least by my criteria). It's now been over a year since I had anything even remotely resembling a slump or even temporary setback of skill level.

Well here goes. I finally got two sessions in and at the rate I am going it will be summer before I'm done.

Round 1) 20, 8, 9, 16, 20, 9, 6, 8, 12, 20 = 128
Round 2) 9, 8, 20, 5, 16, 8, 20, 10, 20, 20 = 136 at least I finished strong

This is definitely tougher than I thought it would be. Seems like I would stumble alot when I was either at or right before the rotation round. Too much thinking :-)

Question

Okay, what should I do in this situation? I started to do my 4th set yesterday and a friend of mine came in after the first game and I started playing him and didn't get a chance to get back to my set. Should I count that game when I restart the set next time or not?

When I start one of these sessions it is like a blue light special “attention Kmart shoppers under the flashing blue light is someone to talk to” invariably someone saunters over and has some urgent nonsense to ask about. “ are you palyin league tonight? Are you going to Vegas this year? Have you heard from Joe Shmo ? Are you blah blah? Blah blah blah, blah blah blah?

…I feel better now. I’ll pay the nurse on the way out.

...by the way this thread must go into the "AZ thread hall of fame" over 4000 views and over 150 replies. Whew!!

If he screwed you up on that game by taking anything away from your concentration, start a new one. Otherwise, let your conscience be your guide.

Woody- Yeah, the grip is getting more comfortable. I'm also taking more time looking at the table than I did at the beginning. Not having a few pops before shooting doesn't hurt either.

Dennis :p

Alright, a new word...I like it...outlier.

Good points, Willie. When playing this game, I am assuming that I should get a 20 everytime. It's not like me to stumble at crunch time. That is a reflection of my goals, confidence, and experience.

To be truthful, without making excuses, my eye surgery back in Sept. did not go too well and I'm back to glasses and contacts. My eyes keep getting worse as time goes by and the Dr. doesn't really know why but will maybe give me a touch-up surgery in March (right near the State tourney's---sigh). Meanwhile, I'm relearning (for the umpteenth time in the last 6years) to aim and this takes time and patience. This game really helps me that way, so any low scores are not really negative for me as much as they're accurate data for realigning my eye/hand coordination, my aim.

My main comparison with this game is to my play in 8-Ball league. When playing, I'm aware of the others watching me. I am often the highest ranking in ERO's for the season (8 ball runnouts where during the 1st inning with 15 ballls on the table, I make all of my group and then the 8-Ball). One would think this would make this game a good fit for me, but it seems not to be that way, yet. When I'm playing league and others watch me, I seem to play better. So, I'm going to pretend when I'm home alone that all you AZers are watching me as I play and I'll see if that helps my shot making.

I do the same thing in golf. On the first tee, with many people watching me, I almost always nail a good drive, right down the fairway. Without the audience, I seem to lose focus. Any advice, anyone?

Maybe I should have been an actor?

Ok ...I finished my 100 racks, but from now on I’m using all six pockets. This one pocket exercise was just a bit too brutal for me.
