Dennis

I'll do some more tonight, and maybe this weekend. I had a lesson several weeks ago. My grip was changing and my league play was suffering so I was concentrating on getting my stroke working. Seems better now, so I better get back to work on this so I can finish before Christmas. DW

Okay everyone, I know it's late but I finally did it. It's just so damn cold in my friends garage right now but I said I was gonna do it, so here's the scores.

16-20-20-20-14-20-20-16-20-20= 186
20-20-18-20-12-16-20-16-18-16= 176
20-20-20-20-12-20-20-18-20-20= 190
16-20-20-20-20-20-20-16-20-20= 192
18-20-12-12-16-20-20-20-20-20= 178

Lack of concentration will definitely cost you in this drill. One thing I didn't do, not one time, was scratch. Too many bad position plays but when I got out of line I was able to come with a shot or 2 to keep the scores up, instead of getting anything under a 10. I don't know when I'll be able to post more scores because it's hard to keep the kids out for any length of time and until he gets a heater in there, I want no part of it, LOL. Oh, this was done on a 9 ft. Olhausen, worn cloth, and tight corner pockets. If the cloth was new, which he says he will get soon, then that may get me out there again. Thanks for letting me participate, wish there were more scores for ya. Peace.

I'm glad you were able to post some scores. I was starting to wonder what your pedigree was...Siberian Husky or Chihuahua when it came to the cold. I guess a little mixed mutt of both. :D Those are some pretty sporty scores for a non straight pool player. Good job.... Maybe Santa will bring one of those doggie coats to put on to finish the last 5. ;)

I have been trying to do this since you posted it but everytime I am at the club someone wants to play and I have not been able to complete a rack.

I was doing this a while back and kept the scores on a spreadsheet. I still have the spreadsheet in the computer and my last entry was May 2, 2002. My total for the last ten games at that time was 702.

Today I was able to get in two racks. But of course someone came in and wanted to talk. At least he was there to watch me run two racks. But then he wouldn't shut up.

Table: Proline 4 1/2 x 9 Simonis 860 Dead rails 5" corner pockets very user friendly.

# 1: 10-8-5-20-20-9-16-12-5-4 = 109
# 2: 6-5-9-10-10-12-10-12-9 = 93
# 3: 9-20-10-10-8-10-5-16-20-2 = 110
# 4: 14-3-20-6-1-8-3-10-7-20 = 92
# 5: 20-5-10-14-3-3-14-10-10-9= 98
# 6: 12-14-20-6-12-8-3-12-12-8 = 107

AVE: 101.5

Sure sucks to miss a shot early. Especially one that I should make ten out ten times.

Alright I got four sets in and took for granted the fact I thought it was an easy drill. I would let my foot off the gas or try a stupid supposed KEY shot and it would end in misery. The one good thing was that I improved every time and found a solid stroke by my fourth set. Need to concentrate until the rack is done though as too many times I failed to get out on a simple pattern. Neat drill though.

#1: 14, 9, 12, 10, 20, 4, 12, 2, 12, 9 = 104
#2: 11, 6, 17, 12, 6, 19, 4, 18, 9, 12 = 114
#3: 6, 14, 10, 12, 4, 18, 18, 8, 8, 20 = 118
#4: 12, 8, 16, 18, 20, 20, 18, 16, 12, 16 = 156

4.5 x 9 table 36 at the Cue Club

I feel somewhat obligated to say that my table is tough! Rude Dog can attest to that. On top of being real tight, it plays slow, so you have to fire balls into small pockets. Add that to the fact that the lighting is *really* bad, and I really don't have enough room for the table anyway (there is one corner where you need a short cue if you have to shoot from anywhere near the rail), and I have enough excuses to have shot a 50! Hah! ;)

I played two games tonight and shot a 182 and a 186. What killed me was that I kept getting the cue ball back up to the head rail and would have to take a point penalty to move the cue ball to where I had a shot. I was breaking fairly soft, too. I think that I made 3 or 4 balls on the break, total, for both games. Who knows, maybe I'll try breaking them hard next time (during the day when there isn't anyone sleeping in the house ;)).

JimmyM,
Spoken like a true "player". You are obviously expecting 200's. Thanks for posting - we are VERY happy that some of the better players are participating. Play hard - it sounds like you and Rude Dog have a friendly rivalry going.

P.S. - I'm assuming you are playing on a 9 footer.

That's the ONLY way you could have beat me 14 games in a row! I can also say that your refrigerator was empty as all hell too  I lost 15 lbs. over night staying with you Jimmy. :D Maybe you were trying to tell me something, huh? Next time, just say it, then we can go eat and talk about it. Peace.

Maybe you should stay for a month next time! HAH! ;)

Thanks for playing Jimmy, it sounds like you were fighting the table conditions alot....and I thought my table was tough, I'm pretty cramped with my table too, don't you just love trying to shoot a deep draw shot with those short cues :)

Sniper,
Maybe those short cues could be good for your game. Two weeks ago my instructor showed me a technique for mega-deep power draw shots. The technique was to shorten your bridge, choke up on the cue with your grip hand (up at the top of the wrap near the balance point), and dig deep with as level a stroke as possible and POWER. He placed an object ball 1 diamond from a corner pocket, 4 or 5 inches off the rail. He then took the cue ball and put it 8 feet away, approx. a ball's width off the far short rail (9 foot table), straight in to the corner pocket, but bridging off the short rail. He powered in the object ball, drawing the cue ball 8 feet back to the short rail, then another 9 feet back to the end where the object ball was initially (17 feet of draw). DANG, I have only gotten it back 8 ft. once or twice. It is a great technique, and can also be used for those soft nip draw strokes where you have too much angle to draw straight back (with this stroke you can get the cue ball to come back a LOT closer to straight than you think, even with some angle). I've seen Corey Deuel use this same technique. It's a piece of cake with one of my friend's short cue.

Willie - Your are AWOL in the ??? Will Pay ??? thread !!!

Hi:

My scores...on a Brunswick Gold Crown IV...at Shooters..

1st set - 99

2nd set - 67

Missed way too many balls...and found that I was too impatient and didn't respect the shot...(thought it was too easy)...have we heard that before...

Question - before there are only 6 balls on the table..you shoot and put in more then 1 ball at a time...(I was only counting 1)...is that correct????

Will try again...bye for now...Wayne (Toronto)

Thanks for the advice Willie, but next time I'm hill-hill for all the marbles and I need to shoot a deep draw shot I'll stick to my regular playing cue LOL!

OK, I finally had enough time to start this...

I played one round on my Olhausen, small 8-footer with my sides shimmed to 4 3/4".

8 2 9 12 1 20 1 9 10 6 ....78

I learned from those 1's that taking the penalty can be a good choice, sometimes. I expect to improve now that I'm more comfortable with the strategies and when I'm in better stroke. The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

I'll attempt to finish the other nine rounds before the due date.

This is a fun, but demanding exercise for me as I play mostly 8-ball. Thanks for setting this up Willie and Driver.
