Dumbest thing you’ve done in a match?

Friday night $5, 8 ball tournament losers bracket match to get to 3rd and the money.
I had 2 balls and my opponent 1. Taking a difficult shot to leave my last ball perfect and my opponents last ball super hard . I nailed it and knew I was ready to win the tournament. I could make anything. So I took the extreme cut I had left my opponent and put the cue ball on " ball in hand shape" for the 8! As I got down after calling the 8, my opponent called, "foul". I thought it was uh perhaps a funny way to concede, as I didn't know him I raised up and inquired, "How so?" "You just shot my ball", was his incredulous reply.
My disclaimer: well it was Friday night and I was working concrete. Three beers was what I needed to calm the muscles ....Uh calming the mind as well.🤷😉

Remarkably, the same thing happened to Jose Parica in the 2013 US Open 8-ball event in a match against his close friend Lee Van Corteza. He didn't notice that he'd made the eight on the break (which had to be spotted under the rules in use) until it was too late.

At least you're in good company!

One of my dumber moments is using the 9B as a cue ball. The white was aligned towards me and there it went.
 
A few months ago I shot the balls out of order in fair sized tourney. I have been playing for over 20 years and have been a master or higher since I was like 14-15. My opponent had to tell me I did it. Whew that was funny

A few minutes later, after my opponent made a few balls, he asked when he had fouled? Apparently I had been putting my coins on his pocket. We call this a Senior Moment, trick to not having so many in something like UNIQUE Poke Chip on Cornor of table so you do not forget wich is your pocket.

At that moment, for some reason I thought we were playing 9-ball, so naturally the other ball had to be lower value than 9.

That’s brutal - but thanks for sharing - makes me feel better about some similarly stupid things I have done🙄
 
I played a better player then me a race to 7 for 50. I lost like 7-3 , so in my infinite wisdom, i said play for a 100 and you have the 8. I beat him 7-5 and he came around looking for me for a week.

My opponent broke and the cue ball went off the table and we didn't notice the 8 had gone in. I shot down to my next to last ball and noticed the 8 wasn't on the table to play position for.

Like a dummy I agreed to do the game over. Afterwards, I realized we agreed on what happened and that he should have lost the game.
 
Wasn't a match but one evening at a local pub me and my cousin were playing 8 ball on a table in the back room when this very attractive young lady walked in and asked us what we were drinking, she had just come on shift. We already had drinks so I told her I wanted to play pool with her. Took quite a bit of persuading but she finally gave in. Before she broke she told us that she had a reputation for sinking the eight ball on a break. We smiled and watched her sink the eight on her first break. We about fell out of our chairs. She said, see! Racked the balls and said bet you can't do it again. She did it again ! This time we did fall out of our chairs. We had a great time playing pool with her and I went and married her. Man, that was expensive.
 
Used the 9 for the cue ball and then a month later i saw a good player do the same thing.

Had a couple come in one night , guy trying to impress his girlfriend, dumped the balls on the table next to me and started playing. He was getting frustrated cause he wasn’t making any balls. I didn’t want to embarrass him so I waited till she went to the bar. I then told him he was on the snooker table 😊
 
I had been playing a lot of 9-ball ghost at home, break then BIH. My opponent broke dry. I had a look at the 1. But out of habit I picked up the CB to place it optimally to get on the 2. Opponent says “Doug, what are you doing?” Um, losing my mind?
 
In a 9 ball match yesterday.
My opponent is on the hill and breaks dry. The 9 is hanging in the corner pocket and all I have is a 2 rail kick at the 1. So I shoot the 9 in and spot it. I then roll the cue ball up table towards the 1.

My opponent comes to the table and says I thought they cue ball ended up down there. I said it did but I didn't hit the 1. He said Oh I thought you pushed.

All I could manage to say was a Blank Stare.
 
I have done a variation of this a few times lol:

I was Hill Hill in a small local evening event and I was set to beat a better player. He won the preceding game to tie us up and he broke dry. It was a Cosmo out and it went perfectly until my inner Kramer Showed up on the 9 ball. Everything was set..easy shot to win and advance. I walked around one more time just to be sure before I shot the winning 9 ball. Then it happened....I stepped up behind the 9 ball and fired the cue ball in the corner pocket 100 mph. YES! Then I look down and the 9 ball is still on the table not far from me.

The only thing that makes sense other than nerves is the 9 ball may have been sitting exactly right so when down on the shot it wasn't as noticeable. The shot was pretty much easy no matter which "cue ball" you used.
