Can dymondwood be used for joint collars and buttcaps? How about decorative rings? I know that stuff is strong, but is it strong enough? Will it crack?

Yes. I've used it on several cues for joint collars. I've never used it for a butt cap. It seemed to be strong enough, and went well with the colors of the cues. Good luck!
Sorry, didn't answer all of your questions. Never tried to make rings with it. I worried about it cracking, but I never had any problems. Maybe someone else has some more experience with it.:thumbup:
Cut a piece of it off and put it on the floor and hit it with a hammer. It's almost indestructible.
It makes nice ferrules for break cues and it makes nice joint protectors. Someone on this forum has made a butt sleeve for a cue out of dymond wood. you could probably cut rings out of it if you were careful. I think it might chip or shatter if you cut it thin. It polishes nice without any finish.
It would hold up just fine for joint caps and butt caps but it might be ugly. For that matter purple heart, cocobolo, maple, or any dense wood also works just fine for joint caps and butt caps.

I'm cutting some tonight or tomorrow for a shaft and joint collar. Also making rings with it. I have already cut the billet for the inlays and it milled perfectly. Will let you know how it goes.

I know a few cuemakers have reported using diamond wood for butt caps and joints but I have to disagree. From my personal experience DW tends to delaminate rather easily when boring. It shines up good and is as hard as a wedding dick but I don't trust it for ringwork or butt pieces myself. I've even had it split when boring and tapping for joint protectors but I think it's much better suited for that application because if it does split, it's not a big deal. That's just my .02 cents worth based upon past experiences with it.

I had a special order for a pink and black cue. Dymondwood was as close as I could get. Pink ivory just didn't cut it.

I have used it for a few years and it has done exactly what Sherm said it would do over a year past now. It is great for a lot of other uses but not for the joint or the butt cap of the cues.......I ahve already had a few come back more than once with the grain cracked length wise, I replace it with thte same stuff and at first I just thought it was the customer being to aggressive when the cue was being tightened together, and then I had a few others come back in tot he shop and I stopped using it asap! Hope the info is helpful
