Earl Strickland has lost his first two matches and will need to win his next 3 in a row for any chance of survival.

It remains to be seen if Earl shows some heart and comes back,or if he goes into his self destructive pouting mode and folds like a cheap Walmart tent.

I hope he doesn't win his final match today, only because I'm rooting for Gabe on that one!

Of course you would be rooting for Gabe :D

I hope Earl doesnt win anymore of his matches.

and Manalo just lost his 2nd to Dallas West!-Figure that one out.

Pretty soon we will be saying-"Well it is 8 Ball- anyone can win".

LOL...yeah, i know.

What's going on with this tournament? Things are so much more different than the NA Open and the KOTH. Total BNRs are up dramatically, i'm guessing at the very least up 50% from the NA Open and KOTH. Favorites are getting beaten left and right by inferior players. Hohmann, Manalo, and Reyes beaten by Jones, West, and Davenport, and beaten convincingly? What's going on?

Did conditions get that much easier this tournament? Did people just practice that much more?

All I know is that the more total BNRs you have, the more upsets there will be.

Nostroke,
Really, aren't we already saying it???? Any of the top 50 players can beat any of the others if the break is working and if the layouts are favorable. I've heard more than one say it's a break contest.

You wanna consider yourself a top player, a professional, and you can't make one ball on the break consistantly.

Go play one pocket then with all the other geriatrics.

Hey you're ahead of me on this one- What do you want?:)

Those are the two 'ifs' usually associated with 9 Ball though and i wouldnt consider Dallas West or LJJ top 50 or 100 for that matter.

i gotta say i love the ipt. So much money on the line its brought out all the players.......all the guys who might not show up for a tourney in the old days....theyre there. And the women........always before you just had to guess how women would do against men....now we are getting to see some of the action. This is really the first chance to see who really are some of the top players in the world.........cool

These top players who can't make a ball on the break consistently would gladly spot you the 5-out and rob you blind :D

Judging from some of your past posts, I don't think you've been playing very long, so maybe the 3-out.

Oh and by the way, when is your buddy Cliff Thorburn gonna come out here and play someone?

Dallas West is one of the great 14.1 players of his era, he can read a rack about as well as any of them there, he's just pretty darn old is all.

I hear what you are saying, however, in the IPT tourney that's just not a reality.

The players are required to break from the "break box" on tighter tables with slower cloth.Making a ball off of the break is not as easy under these conditions. The break box is meant to cut down the odds of making a ball off the break.

I don't know what the stats are, however, balls on the break percentages were away down(from normal) for the first IPT tourney, although they may have risen for this one.Anyone know of the ball on the break percentages?

There are 4 or 5 really good players (Manalo, Parica and Luat included) in "Deep Doo Doo" (as you put it) down 0-2. If they all fail to advance, this will be a day of MAJOR upsets. Oh wait a minute, you only care about Strickland...I am sorry I interupted you. Tell us again how this proves how much HE sucks.

Ive been saying this for a year. Some people have tried to poo poo this and argue that the break isnt that huge. This is absolute nonsense. At pro level all the players runout percentage will be HUGE, patterns and strategy might give a player a slight edge but it pales in comparison to the break.

I expect the best payers to be running out atleast 80% if they make a ball.

C'mon guys don't be so lazy, they are compiling stats on the website, lol :D.

The average from what I have been seeing is around 43%, the median however is probably closer to 23%, which is not too bad. They are running out far more than in 9 ball, but at least one a player misses, their opponent still has to run 8 balls to win.

Manalo loses first 3

Looks like Manalo could be joining Thorsten Hohmann on the sidelines. He's clinging by a thread and needs to win his last two and hope to get in by percentage points. He also needs outside help.

He also needs Dallas West to lose both of his last twwo remaining matches and he needs Hsia to only win one of his last two.If all that happens he can just barely sneak in.

Wouldn't it be something that him and Hohmann(last tourney's finalists)get knocked out so early.
