Earl should be barred

Dennis Rodman of pool

Earl is the Dennis Rodman of pool. I have seen him play and complain hundreds of time. It really is tiring for me. He is a low life jerk.

I posted about the professional acting players (Gabe Owen, Schmit, Dual, etc) and how they are a credit to all of us.

Earl is like the uncle who has to be invited, but you really hope he doesnt come.

He now plays as the human mummy, and his unprofessionalism and low class crap is an embarassment to all.

While I feel Pete Rose should make it to the HOF (after he is dead), I think Earl should be there too. (Maybe after he is dead too).

Wow I scare myself.

Overall there's being "colorful" and there's being a lowlife....Earl has gone from one to the other....

Pool has a seedy image because of men, period, IMHO. The MEN enforced gender-restricted environments for many a year. It's kind of funny to see the women's organization of today surpass the men's. :o

It's funny because it's amazing the men managed too screw up their tour for so long and when the women's tour came about, they managed to have an organized professional tour in no time.

It true that they seem to have it together as far as professionalism goes...

One cannot compare the bad conduct exhibited by champions in other sports as entitlement for poolplayers to do the same IMO because they are mature sports with millions of fans which translates into multi millions of $$$$ for advertisers. Bad conduct by poolplayers will not be the vehicle that kick starts pool to receive recognition needed to attract endorsements that leads to players being able to make incomes great enough to feed thir families, own a home, and have respectability.

That's a great point. Well said, Doug.

I believe Earl can only have a positive impact on Pool. Most people are drawn to people who are a train wreck waiting to happen. I started watching Tennis after one of Marat Safin's temper tantrums. With Earl I watch him half expecting colourful behaviour, but if that doesnt happen than at least Ill see some good pool.

I saw his match with Ralf Souquet and, unless they cut something out for time constraints for television, He didnt actually do anything bad. All he did was not watch Ralf shoot. That was probably just so he wasnt affected by Ralf's slow play. Alot of people made it sound like he was insulting Souquet. Earl clapped after rack wins and good shots. Thats pretty sportmanlike.

I cant wait for Ronnie O'Sullovan, there will be tons of threads like this on him. I'm sure Ronnie will say something to piss someone off.

Regards

Not entirely. At the world championships in April he he was asking people what time it was and getting annoyed at his opponents slow play. I cant remember exactly what it was he did but it was Earlesque. But more than anything else he just says things that can under peoples skin. For instance he was talking about how boring he was finding Snooker, which caused him to be booed by most of the crowd. He is always complaining about something, constantly threatening to quit the game. On top of all of this, if IPT players become celebrities, As Trudeau feels they will, Ronnie already be comfortable with the roll (haha). He was once pulled over by the police in his convertable with a couple of girls and one wearing only a bath robe.

In summary Ronnie is interesting. Personally I find him to be entertaining. But I know that a few people will grimace at some of the things he says and does, on and off the table.

I was playing in the one pocket division at the Derby City on the table next to Earl who was playing Hiroshi Takenaka and it was disgusting the way he acted. Right off the bat he was insulting to his opponent and was disruptive to my match with my opponent and when a fan asked to keep it down he was insulting to the fan. In my opinion it was nothing more than a sharking tactic. Hiroshi was a perfect gentleman who should have kicked his ass both on the table and in the parking lot.
If the TD's won't control him and continue to give him preferential treatment then he should be treated in the same manner he treats others. What goes around comes around. There is no doubt he was one of the best 9ball players several years ago. That doesn't give him the right to resort to the bullbleep tactics he resorts to in order to win. Smart $ says he puts his pants, or skirt, on like everybody else and I'll lay 50 to 1 that his sh-t stinks. He is not above the game. As he continues to age and his god given skills diminish at a faster rate what is in store for his future opponents? How about the integrety of the game? It's time he gets a wake up call!:(

I thought that was kewl of him to do also, i have a match recorded of him and Ralph in the Challenge of Champions where Ralph won it, and he was doing this, he even did it when he miss a ball and went back to his seat he started clapping. Although you could see he was mad, Ralph played a safe but left a shot for earl to play one on him and earl was up at the table with no time and just hit the ball before Ralph can even sit down, Allen was saying Earl has to calm down. Or even at the second year of the World Summit of pool someone in the crowd said wow and he said what, someone just callled a foul on me then the person said i said Wow.

It's kind of interesting to read insights from such a diversified group of posters pertaining to Earl Strickland. :D

SJM, remember how you were a little bummed out reading all of the organization-bashing posts on the IPT sub-forum? I get the same feeling when I read the Earl-bashing ones. Admittedly, I have a different slant than some, mine usually biased towards the players' interests. :)

I get a kick out of seeing Earl in the pit, and his tableside personality puts a smile on my face because I know how focused he is and how much he really wants that almighty win. Too bad Earl wasn't born a Filipino because he may have enjoyed his celebrity as a world-class champion. Like many American pool champions, they've been beaten up a little bit along the tournament trail, you know, the usual low payouts and exhorbitant costs. Here in America, if pool is seedy, it is only because it continues to get stereotyped in that way.

Earl behaves the way he does at tourney's because he CAN. He is PROTECTED. He knows this. If he acted the way he does without the protection of the officials and the crowd a justified tushhog would pummel him about the head and shoulders. It doesn't matter how badly he WANTS to win, if he's playing in a tourney he should be held to the same standards as the other participants. The tough tournament trail doesn't mitigate his actions--he can always get a job like the others who can't make it on talent alone. I hope the IPT? has a quick hook for participants that think they are above the game. The players that can't handle the decorum and protocal inherent to tournament competion should be banned and forced to find a way to exist in seedier envirements where, as a rule, what goes around comes around.

I heard Earl did leave the KOH tourney and left in a huff and was called to fly back.

hey this is just earl people know how he is and expect him to act like that
if he didnt act like a baby he wouldnt be himself now would he?
although hes a big baby getting older losing his touch he cant live with that fact and he crys. but it makes the game colorful and not so boring.

Pool needs more Earls - WWF Pool would be a whole lot more entertaining !

Funny BUT, I understand that is Earl no a good Sportsman. But until he is PENALIZED for his antics, ways, etc. he will not change. There is ZERO Reason for him to CHANGE.

It is up to Tournament Directors, Organizers, and Officials to Control Competitors. If they do not what what Earl Allegedly did, will continue his antics. :p
