earl strickland question?

I was told Earl played with a Meucci. I can't remember seeing him play with anything but Cuetec though.

????????????

Earl played with a Moochie for years. I'm not sure when he changed but was using Moochie through out the late 80's. Yeah he seldom missed a ball thats just the way Earl played................

I think he changed shortly before the color of money match with Efren. In that match he played with a white Cuetec. On youtube there is an older match with Earl and McCready and he was playing with a Muecci.

did the Meucci really help it, lol?

Moochies can play awesome...seriously. I can take a Moochie red dot sneaky...remove the pin & replace with a big radial pin...bore the brass out of the shaft and replace with wood or phenolic and bore & tap to accept the radial pin...add a set of joint collars....then replace the hollow ferrule with a shorter, quality ferrule material & a premium tip. When complete it will actually hit & play about as well as anything you can buy. Seriously...I've done more than a few.

hahahah there's another one where he said something like "Cuetec was holding me back forever, using them brought my game down at least 3 balls" or something. No hard feelings there lol.

edit: So, varney... basically, if you start with a cuetec and replace the shaft, butt, ferrule, tip, core, pin, joint, inlays, wrap, but you leave the butt cap, you can have a really sweet cuetec?

I poke fun, but I have seen a couple of 'em that had decent shafts(given this was 12 years ago), and weren't awful. They were just the exception, rather than the rule.

Hahahaha. That's awesome. Then again... I don't exactly play with a quality cue...

I'm on a budget, ok!

I bought a Cuetec once... I would almost rather have one of those bad bank loans... Man... horrid... Not saying Scorpion is top quality... but I sure like it better than the Cuetec.

Earl definitely played with a Meucci. I have a video of him here in Japan in the late 80's and he's using one. It was a grayish color with white inlays around the butt. I haven't seen that video in a long time though so don't hold me to that.

Also, when I was in Vegas in 2001 I took a tour of SouthWest and on one wall there were hundreds of forearms waiting to be worked on and each one had a tag with someone's name on it. One of them had a tag that said "E. Strickland". I thought that was pretty cool.

I've told that story here before

I played with a white Cuetec (Strickland model) for years. It was a decent cue once you got the right tip on it. I used triangles. Moori's didn't suit that cue very well. I still have that cue as a matter of fact. I think I'm gonna break it out and start shooting with it again.

That cue played really well and anyone that shot with it complimented me on it and said it didn't feel like other Cuetec's that they had shot with. The really good thing about that cue though, was, if I walked in some place and was shooting bad my cue wouldn't embarrass me. If I was shooting well then I'd get compliments for being able to shoot so well with such a cheap cue.

As for Earl saying they brought his game down, it's silly. It's not the cue. Earl could shoot as well as he did with a broom stick.

I was just watching the Maine Event 14.1 video of Earl vs Efren and Earl is visibly irritated. I told my wife, if Earl was able to control his emotions I don't think there would have been anyone that could beat him. That loss in the 120 match in Hong Kong was all due to his temper. He was making Efren his b***h on that second day and on that third day he was just all over the place with anger. Not taking anything away from Efren, we all know he's probably the greatest that we'll ever see, but in that Hong Kong match Earl would have eaten him alive if he could have kept his temper under control.

At one point in his career he played with a Meucci 84-8.

There's a ton of pros who played with Meucci's back in the 70's - 80's.
