My name is Eric Ridge and I'm one of the *new* owners of Shooters in Greensboro, NC.

Earl and BJ Ussery of High Point, NC will be matching up this Sunday at 8:00pm. Right now it sounds like they'll be playing at least two 10 ahead sets and I think Earl is giving up a ball or two, but the spot hasn't been completely negotiated. Ya know how pool players are... nothing is ever settled until the first rack is broken.

Please come by to watch. We open at 1:00pm and there'll be a $5.00 cover starting about 6:00pm. We've got a bar with full ABC permits and grill. 17 pool tables (8 8' and 9 9'). Lots of seating to watch the action.

Those of you that have been to Shooters in the past will be surprised by the overhaul we've given the place. It's a friendly, clean, and well-lit room with pleanty of action and I'd love for any AZBer in the area to swing by for a few hours.

The address is:

3808 High Point Rd
Greensboro, NC 27407
336 852-1448

Also, let me mention that you should bring a *valid* photo ID. While Shooters has been around for a long time, it's under new ownership and we have to follow the laws very carefully. No valid ID, no entry. :)

Thanks and I hope to see you there!

EDIT: Fixed our phone number. D'oh!

While this does sound exciting it also sounds like bs. It's well known that Earl does not gamble anymore. If you can prove to me that this is actually going down I'd gladly visit your establishment. Until then...

i would definitely roll down there to watch that. Its been awhile since ive been to shooters, last couple times there was no action so i quit going. Cant wait to see it.

Earl was in the room Friday (yesterday) evening for a bit, and his parting words were "If you want to play, I'll be here Sunday at 8:00". Then he mumbled something about hating jump cues. LOL.

This is something a lot of different folks have been working all week to make happen. Right now, he's supposed to show. Unfortunately I have no control over if he actually does.

While it's obvious I'm shamelessly plugging my new pool room, I'm not feeding y'all a line of BS. This all started last weekend when BJ and Dereck (also from High Point) came up to play some $500 - $3k sets. BJ came out on top. Next thing we know, we're hearing that someone wants to stake Earl against BJ (apparently Earl is here in GSO right now). So it's been a week of phone tag trying to get things organized. My confidence level of it happening is about 90%.

I should also mention that BJ will be running our Pro Shop. He'll be doing cue repair, selling cases, sticks, and offering private lessons. He's also available for action.

Thanks!

DeadPoked beat me to it. Earl doesn't gamble anymore. Is this an exibition or is he returning to matching up?

No, it's not an exhibition. It's supposed to be at least 2 10 ahead sets for $2k each. Like I said before, the spot hasn't been fully negotiated yet.

Please do. It's a completely different place now. We've had nothing but positive comments and support since we re-opened last Friday. My partners and I are passionate about pool and we're trying really hard to turn Shooters into a real pool room.

The place is about 10k sq. feet with a dance floor and stage, so we have the opportunity to do lots of different things, but pool is our #1 focus.

We'll be running weekly 9 ball tourneys, and are considering a weekly (or bi-weekly) 1 pocket torunament. Further, we also have plans to run larger quartly tournaments where the house adds at least $1k. Our first major tournament will be a Jacoby tour stop, and we're going to add $2500. Details on this will be announced soon.

Hey Drater, I am really pleased to hear that BJ is feeling frisky again after his recent health issues. I am only an hour away and this sounds like a great way to spend a Sunday evening. How much is the table time per hour?? What is the best way to get there coming from the Durham area??
Dan

Anyone else hear about this game...from Earl? If they didn't agree to what the spot is by now...it ain't gonna happen. Just more empty air woofing on here. Johnnyt

I just received word that Earl is going to give up the 7 and the last two. Freezing up $4k for (at least) 2 10 ahead sets at $2k/ea.

Your profile says you're in NY/FL, so I don't suppose you'll be able to swing by tomorrow, but anytime you're passing through NC we're about 2 miles off of I85.

Table time is $3.50/hr per person.

From Durham hit I85 S and follow the signs to I40 W. Exit at High Point Rd. exit and take a left. We're about 4 blocks down on the right. You'll pass the Holden Rd. intersection, then the next block will be "Cook Out" on your right. We're in the shopping center immediately after it.

Thanks for the info Eric. Look forward to seeing the new place and there is a cookout nearby...Mmmm love there burgers, fries and shakes!!
Seeya tomorrow,
Dan

if anyone on az would like to bet that this is just woofing please tell me how much you will bet and all bets will be covered. i just talked to bj and the game is the call 7 and the last two. i wasn,t going to put it out here on az as i am going to bet the rail and didn't want shooters to be overcrowded, but since it is on here now, post up anyone who thinks its not gonna take place. by the way, these guys have shooters in great shape, gold crowns and shimmed up amf tables, and action galore since the doors opened.

This is very interesting.I'd be tempted to make the trip if not working.

Some live updates posted here as well as some overall reviews from some who attend will go a long way towards people believing that Earl's back out there, even if just a little ....Drater,you are in the inenviable spot of saying it's gonna happen, while most here havn't seen it happen in a LONG time.

I hope it goes off and is a huge success for you though.Good luck with the newly renovated hall as well.

shooters is on high point road about 1 to 2 miles off exit 217 on int. 40 in greensboro n.c. come on by as chewtobacco and scott lewis and others will be there if you're looking for action.

Ok guys, heres the deal.Drater comes across as a pretty straight shooter to me so I figured I'd go the exra mile and see what I could find out about the whole situation.

One quick call to Mike Gullyassy did just that:

Shooters,tomorrow vs BJ.
I didn't ask about the beans, sets or spots but in Mikes words, "Its going off.Earl is ready to go!"

That my friends,is the horses mouth.Should be great action for those close enough to make it.

Hope that helps,

Thanks for all the information, I wish I lived closer, good luck with your new venture, remember, you will never please all the people all the time.

It sounds like it is going to happen. I apologize. It?s just that 98% of the match ups never go off that are put on here. I figured the chances of Earl gambling after so many years were about zero. Again I apologize to you. Johnnyt

He goes to the same hall as BJ? Well, there is the hot spot if you wanted to match up.

Earl had gambling rules in the Cuetec sponsorship from what I've been told so was forced to quit, but maybe cuetec did us a favor. Betting your own money might bring the Mighty back to Earl, I hope so and I think he can give BJ the seven and last three winner break.
