Haha. He was here earlier tonight (Sat. night). Playin' some one pocket with Harry. I was busy cleaning up and didn't get to see who came out on top. I'm sure he'll be around on Sunday.

Well I get off work at 7 in the morning and I am planning on getting some sleep and heading up. How can I miss the first time Earls gambled in forever? Should be awesome. Drater if they are not done by the time your normally close are you going to stay open?

We'll stay open as late (or as early) as we need to. Monday morning is going to be hell, but hey, what do ya do?

Hey,

Since you will be there watching with a computer near by will you be throwing in hourly updates for the match here? That would be great.

Yeah, I'll do what I can. We're gunna try to video tape the match too... if Earl & BJ don't mind. Not enough prep time to stream it live :(, but youtube is a possibility in the coming days.

Like I said before, Earl was in for a few hours practicing and seemed to be in top form. I know BJ is playing well too, so I'm expecting it to be a superb match.

Ok guys, heres the deal.Drater comes across as a pretty straight shooter to me so I figured I'd go the exra mile and see what I could find out about the whole situation.

One quick call to Mike Gullyassy did just that:

Shooters,tomorrow vs BJ.
I didn't ask about the beans, sets or spots but in Mikes words, "Its going off.Earl is ready to go!"

That my friends,is the horses mouth.Should be great action for those close enough to make it.

Hope that helps,

This is kind of like Michael Jordan coming back to the NBA from minor league baseball. If Earl is really pumped for this it should be very animated, as he usually is.

Go get 'em, Earl Baby!

Those who think Earl's got no gamble are mistaken.

Now that he's playing with a REAL cue, American-made I might add, there may just be a new sheriff in town.

B.J. is a good kid, too. He's a worker bee and contributes to pool in many ways, even giving car rides to younger players to distant tournaments, mentoring them at the same time.

Matching up this game would be a difficult call for me. B.J. is definitely no slouch, as I've seen him run six-packs on several occasions. May the best player win!

After 17 years of marching to the beat of another metal drummer, the Earlie Pearlie is back! :)

BJ vs Earl

I've seen BJ play a couple of times and I know that he is a very strong player. I also heard that he is the toughest young gun in S. Carolina.

However, an even match with Earl is going to be tough. Earl is battle tested and has a lot more experience than BJ which is going to make a lot of difference. But, who know's? maybe BJ is now ready for the big picture.

Please bring us some update of the match here if you can.

thanks!

Where does he play outta SC?
And why the hell are they going to NC to play?Is Earl not in and around the Greenville area??
Thats where my lesson was with anyhow....so two SC guys travel to NC for sets??

I have much confusion. Not that it matters at all, but Why?

Funny, my thoughts exactly. If anyone thinks Earl can't gamble they are sadly mistaken. I have a feeling Mike Gulyassy's influence is bringing out the best in Earl again. And in N. Carolina no less. This is like Earl's home court.

I know B.J. can play, but Earl is an entirely different animal. If he's right, it could be no contest, spot or not. Earl has a speed that is a notch above the world, when he is "on". B.J. better hope he doesn't get to see it.

Either way, good luck Eric with your new venture. Sounds like you're going to have a lot of fun running this place. And maybe make a few bucks too. :)

BJ lives in North Carolina, not South Carolina.

And Earl is today a rambler. I don't believe he has settled down into one locale in recent times, but I think he happens to like the Carolinas, which is where he is from.

Whatever pool room Earl steps foot in, you can be sure that everyone in attendance will be in for a real treat! This BCA Hall of Famer is an American legend and has more significant and consecutive title wins than any other player in the history of American pool.

I hope somebody videotapes this match-up. It will be one that is going to provide some excellent play.

Well,I still can't get a cue table image to post but the link does work.

I have this on tape but not digital and fwiw I havent seen the tape since the night after the lesson because my bud did the taping.....BUT....
This was a shot he loved...I mean he loved it...must have been something he'd been working on for a while imo.I must have seen him stroke this 25-30 (perhaps more) times during the 3 hour session.
Not really instructional other then to illustrate how a cue will move with side spin and a solid stroke but by good gooly dam,it did show that.

The thing was the pockets at Mikes are as small as you have seen. When I say you,I mean any of you.Tiny little corners.

He'd crush this ball (probably not as hard as he could, but dam hard) into the corner and the slight top and extreme spin would cause the cue to "beat" (his word) the other balls.Beat would mean play between the balls and rails without hitting the balls and the cue ball travels on.

P

Now he didn't hit it every time (pocketed ball) or beat the others each time but he got it right a bunch.NUTZ I say.

If I got the layout is wrong,I got it dam close.
Is he "in stroke"?...I think perhaps...BJ I would not want to be,but who knows how Earl will react to action.

Good action indeed.....Good action cubed really.

Well at least I post here under my name so everyone knows WHO I AM. Who is dimes33? Who are you? Easy to snipe from behind a made up name.

So I get it was a joke - fine - and I get that I can't play - you know that already so if you post here WHO YOU ARE and give me the five out and the breaks then you can stone cold bust me.

I will PAYPAL my stake to Kevin Varney and PAY ALL THE FEES AND GIVE him 5% for holding it if you will do the same. We pick a date in December and a place in Charlotte and you can just bust me. I will play at Smokin Cue, The Green Room or Rack Em. Whoever doesn't show up forfeits the stake.

You have me clocked "can't play an automatic radio" and I don't know - or care - who you are. If I pitched a fit then it's probably because you are some kind of nit that got on my nerves.

All you had to say was that it's a joke between you and Chew. Hell since y'all are such "old friends" then I guess you won't mind if I take a pass on staking any part of any bet between y'all.

But YOU and I can play. You can beat me to death giving up a fair spot to a guy that can't play a radio (true by the way).

So I will put those 5 dimes in action against you - let's be the first on AZ to POST via PayPal. I'd like to see if you have the heart to do it.

And BEFORE you go off about me haveing no heart by asking for the weight. YOU clocked me as being helpless. You are the one who talks about how YOU have taken off so many players and played for huge amounts. I have no reason to doubt that you are a world beater and plenty of world beaters have beaten my with that weight and more. If you aren't willing to give up the weight after having played me and in the knowledge that I am helpless then I'd have to ask who lacks heart?
again you show a tremendous amount of heart and gamble,"the 5 0ut and the breaks" wow you would really try me like that? but youre not a nit? wow,i never said i was a world beater nor a champion but i will and have MATCHED UP to play a lot of players.ive never said one word to you on this forum and you take it upon yourself to to start with the gum bumping over a post about somebody ive known longer than youve been playing this game.you are always talking without much to say, imo.you may not know me by name but you do know me and we can play whenever you want.no need to keep barking about posting up 5k in somebody else's account, lol.what a clown.

No offense dimes...really none intended.

But just start a thread with the subject John B and roll with it.
Both of you....Really...why not?

This thread is gonna be busy later (or so I hope) so save the woofin and bs for your own build up.

Why bark here?

none taken and i agree.i hate barking woofin online and its just weak imo.ive said what i needed to say and im done with it and have no desire to make a thread for us to act like asses on.john when you read this just pm if you really want to play and we can work it out, bring the money and leave the attitude.

Like I said "clown" I didn't know it was a private joke since people usually INDICATE that with smileys on the net or make it a little more obvious. You are the one however that decided to take it to another level and tell me I can't play AFTER saying you have me clocked already. I have no clue who you are and could care less - if we didn't match up in Charlotte or anywhere in NC then it's most likely because you are a world class nit. You probably beat me getting lucky rolls or snuck in a handicapped tournament and was underrated and that's probably why I threw a fit IF I even did. Doesn't matter though because I am sure that if I met some doofus like you then I definitely asked to play and the fact that you declined says to me that you'd rather spend all day to win $100 when you could snap me easily for five times that - cuz that's what I usually will donate just to see how someone plays.

But now that you KNOW I am helpless and you WON'T make a fair game then I guess my conclusion is right - you're a nitty locksmith with no gamble and no heart, whoever you are, just like thousands of other anonymous snipers on the net.

Lastly, about posting the money - I don't know of another way to do it safely - I don't even particularly like Kevin all that much but I trust him to hold the stake.

Drater, sorry to hijack your thread - I thought Dimes33 wanted some action and I was gonna see if I could put Chewy in the box. But since it turns out that it was just "joking" then no need to continue here.

Good luck with the new room - having owned one in Germany I know exactly what you're going through. Nice that you have BJ and Earl getting down there. BJ is tough as nails and really solid and Earl's been on rocky ground for a few years - but still Earl's got gears that most top players dream of. Tough call really IMO with the spot - honestly I don't think Earl can give up this weight to BJ right now but we'll see. I couldn't bet it either way but I give the edge to BJ. I will try and make my way to your place next time I am back in NC.

Like Jay says, these things are best worked out in public for all to see. I have no problem to match up with you like I proposed. You have me clocked as helpless and I would give a helpless player the five out and the breaks. So you tell me what a fair game is since you are anonymous and know me but I don't know you.

I didn't want to make this into a pissing contest, I was trying to get some action for Chewy. And lest you think I won't gamble I had Kelly Fisher against him for 5k and his backer backed out. He beat Kelly to death that day with his break and only stuck us for $1200 cuz that's all he could get up between him and the guys he was with. I asked for another set with alternate breaks and it was no going. The result is though that I like Chewy and like his game and would definitely stake him against anyone I don't know IF he is getting that weight. So I didn't know y'all are friends and I guess if he should happen to read AZ he will immediate KNOW who Dimes33 is and get the joke right?

Doesn't matter though. It's stupid to try and set up something like this from 10,000 miles away no matter what the circumstances are.

Let's just sweat Earl and BJ - I will bet you $100 you pick the side you like and I'll take the other one. Bet?
