"i must add the last 2 never became a factor"

How do you know the last 2 never became a factor..... if he didn't have to shoot them you don't know what might have happened.

Do those ankle weights really convey any benefits? I would think that in an extra long match like this one, that the ankle weights might actually tire Earl out faster.

i asked one of bj's backers about the weights, i thought it was some kind of gimmick to help his game. The guy told me that earl is just huge into physical fitness and thats one of the things he does now, who knows. I did see him take one of the weights a couple times and put it around his bridge hand on the break.

In other sports like cycling, you generally want to have the lightest equipment possible. While in training (practicing) there might be some benefit to adding on weights to increase your strength, stamina and endurance. However, once the match is underway, you really don't want to be saddled with additional weight if it's not necessary.

In a long match like this one, IMO, Earl should have tried to conserve his energy and may have unknowingly tired himself out faster with those ankle and wrist weights.

Well it was because Earl never missed the runout when it was down to those balls....Every game bj won was on the 7 or a combo on either 7 or 9.
Didn't realize i had to spell it out for u but here ya go....

the second set was called off with the score EVEN . bj won the first and only set. they had made a provision to call off or pro rate the second set if no one had won it in an 8 hour period. bj was 5 ahead in the second set and earl got it all the way back to 3 ahead on his side, but again they quit at even. tons of action at shooters tonight, i lost 300 betting on earl but also won 1200 playing 9 ball 200 a game and made 1500 more racing someone else to 7,300 a set. the guy i won the 1200 from was down 8000 last i heard(about 6:30 am) playing 8 ball one handed against chews stakehorse playing 2 handed,2000 a game. hows that for action? the same guy blew 4400 to scott lewis the night before. eric and trevor really have the action hot spot right now and everyone needs to come visit. jason
all true and jay was in action about all night.hes a good guy to gamble with and he likes to bet.my kind of guy! take care jay and ill see you soon bud.

So they called it even on the second set, but BJ made money on the first?

Yes, that's correct.

Thanks again to everyone that came out.

I dunno if Earl reads AZB, but I'd also like to thank him for coming by and being a good sport. The spectators loved it and I'm not sure if he realized it or not, but many more people were pulling for him than for BJ. He has a tremendous fan base.

Thanks everybody. We've got a $100 added 1 pocket tourney coming up this Wednesday. I'll post about it in the tournament section later today.

Hey thanks!

Just so everyone knows, Earl *did* pay his pool time. I'm sure on the inside he understands that we're in business to make money.

Earl Strickland v/s BJ Ussery This Sunday (8/19/2007)

Didnt you make enough money from using his name to build a crowd and pump up your room online ? I would give him free time and drinks !!!

Just my opinion and dont mean to offend anyone .

Most action rooms do not charge pros for table time. At Mother's I never charged Allison, Gerda, Ewa, Johnny, Monica, Helena, Corey, Jeremy, etc. Having pros in the room brings more players, action, and money into the place...much more so than table time.
I know Allison once visited J. Reginald's pool room in Mint Hill, NC at the request of the owner. Very clean room with nice, well kept tables. She took another pro and they went to practice one evening for several hours.
A large crowd developed watching them trying to learn a trick or two...much larger crowd than he ever had on a week night. At the end of the evening he charged them $12 a piece for table time. She never went back...period. She thought she'd be comped as done by other rooms. His room is no longer open either. There is a time to make money & a time to realize you are fortunate that you have a world class player in your room. Would you have had that large a crowd and been able to charge a cover if BJ was playing Chewie or Scott? I think not. Just my thoughts.;) :)

I agree about in the business to make money. I'm in the same boat! :)

There is one school of thought that pool players like Earl who come to a pool room for one thing only sometimes will get "comped" by the owners. For instance, in Vegas at the Cue Club, Keith McCready did not have to pay table time during the day when he was practicing for the IPT event at The Venetian. However, at night time, due to the crowd in the pool room, the owner decided to then give all IPT players half-price on the time for practicing. It is just a little perk, I guess, they give sometimes.

Just food for thought for you in the future. Professional pool players like to get stroked, too! :D

In the long run, it may help business in the future via word of mouth by the professional player, stating how well he was treated at a pool room.

This is not to say what you did was wrong. Rather, it is a practice by some pool room owners who do give professional players a comp, again, depending on the circumstances.

I hope B.J. at least paid the table time for the evening's festivities! :p
