Earl Strickland vs Keith McCready

Thanks for posting this.

Boy, Earl had a rocket break. Wow...

JAM - I will buy that hat from Keith if he still has it and wear it everytime I play pool. That is the sh*t.

I like how they concede games to save time, just like we all do in the pool halls and just like they still do in pro snooker

i agree completely with what you're saying, but it doesn't actually happen in snooker. you can only concede really when you need snookers to win the frame. it's considered bad ettiquette to concede while your opponent is at the table.

WOW, Thanks

This was in April of 1988. Earl won the tournament. I have the finals match between Earl and Jack Hines on Accu-Stats video. The finals goes hill-hill, race to 11, and with Earl down 10-8 Hines snookers him dead behind the 8-ball. Earl lines up a three-rail kick, adjusts a couple of times, and then kicks three rails to not only hit the 7 but cut it straight up table into the corner pocket, and then run out! Earl won the next two games to win the tournament.

One week later Earl beat Efren 15-14 in the finals of the Tara Open in Atlanta, Georgia, playing on the same kind of slow cloth where you have to power the cueball around the table. It's one of the top 2 or 3 matches I've ever seen on Accu-Stats, with both players at the top of their game in their prime.

I remember talking to Pat Fleming on the phone way back when, when I was thinking about ordering the tape. He would describe each of the matches and how well he thought they were played, and for the match between Earl and Efren he was just speechless. He said at that time that it was the best 9-ball by two players in one match that he'd ever seen.

Fleece,

Thanks for the post...good ole Keith, never caring whether he got in line, stayed in line, just shot'em up...thanks again.

Anyone else think earl broke funny as hell?

I'm assuming it's because of the mali cloth that they were forced to use so much body english during the break shots.

Great stuff!

One question though. Why do most here think there is something special about playing on a slow tables? Isn't it actually harder to control the cue ball on a fast table, especially if the cushions also rebound quickly?

I believe if you took a poll by age groups 15-35 and 36 and up you would find that the older group liked the slow cloth and the younger like the fast. IMO a 10 year old kid with no stroke can get 4 rails on this fast *hit. Where on the slow cloth you need a little bit of a stroke to get around the table. Don't forget also that the harder you have to shoot the more chance of missing the pocket. Johnnyt

I forgot to add that I play on slow tables most of the time and prefer them to fast tables because I'm having real tough time adjusting to a much quicker table when I need to.
Some time ago my logic was that if I could do what was necessary with the cue ball on a slow table, the fast one should be a piece of cake. Well, it turned out that I needed a lot more touch shots and that I couldn't let my arm loose that easily. Maybe others feel they are safer on a fast table because of easier CB movement, but not me.

why did keith lose on the break in the second rack? I didnt know you could lose on the break in 9 ball.

He didnt automatcially lose, He conceded the game since the 9 was hanging in the pocket and Earl had BIH.

Love McCready's body english, squirming after the break, squirming during bank shots. I know I do the same sometimes

Rules

Did they have different rules? In one game, Earl scratched on the break but made a ball (6 maybe). The 6 and 1 ball were spotted. Why was the 1 ball moved from it's original spot? It is in part 4, second game.
