Whether you like him or hate him, he creates more interest then any other player in todays game. Yes he has his meltdowns and he is a bit off but most greats, doesn't matter what field they are in are somewhat off.
Just look at todays threads to see what i'm talking about. There are hundreds of posts about this match.

Earl the Pearl is the Van Gogh of pool...our flawed genius.
Years after he's gone, they'll be having festivals at venues he's been
kicked out of.:)
I'll say it again...
Earl has brought far more to this game than he has detracted from it.
 
BINGO! Exactly what I said in another thread. Funny thing is the ones complaing about his actions are glued to the screen watching this and will be again when he plays Archer. Earl SELL TICKETS. And I hope he wins this match. I am a big fan of SVB but I would really like to see The Pearl pull this one off. On to the Mosconi cup next! :yikes:

Yesterday I counted 14 threads involving Earl on the main forums front page......Yeah I would say there is interest!

If Earl wins there could be a series of challenges.
Earl woofing at Pagulayan didn't go un-noticed.
And a match with Captain Hook might produce more dialogue than a
Shakespearian festival.
 
as I said before, some people despite his actions, but they are needed for any type of sport that needs to grow.... even thoose who can't watch pool, or get bored when watching pool, I'm sure they wouldn't mind watch Earl Strickland.....ESPN said it before too, bring 3 or 4 Earl Stricklands to pool, and it will grow as big as tennis/golf.

We're all flawed, but we're not all geniuses.

It seems to me the decline of American pool exactly tracks Earl's playing career. Which also tracks the commonly-held view that what American pool needs is more Earls, more of the time. Why people think repeating a failed strategy, year after year, will somehow yield different results is beyond me.
 
I watched Earl play for the first time yesterday in person.
He beats himself up if he misses a shot,he starts acting discussed with him self,talking too himself & just plain gets pissed at himself. That's what fuels the crowd,and the
shame is most of the people making comments in the crowd probablly don't even shoot pool or are drunken idiots that do shoot pool! Perfect example, I wasn't there fri. but their was a guy sitting in the front row seating messing with Earl pretty bad. Now I have to say I know this guy & he is a drunken idiot.
Believe me I'm in no way defending Earls actions but it isn't all his fault all the time.
I bad mouth Earl & I never seen what actually went down.
One more thing I want to say the guy plays some kickass pool!
 
I disagree with most here....

When i see Earl act like this it only makes me do one thing, turn it off.

Then we i see people watch earl and act like him i end up putting the cue away and leave.
 
all you people that have issues with Earl, if you judge others... you know the rest

Earl does not need to conform to your percieved standards, he has his own personality love it or hate it that's on you the man's a legend are you ?
 
Don't get me wrong he did act like a sober idiot at times.
I think he has bionic hearing & site cause some of the stuff he complained about I didn't see.
