That's nuts, he's crazy, and Fleece3.. you might be a little paranoid.. lol... I doubt they sent out for the lady with chips routine on Earl..

Actually, I would not be surprised at all to find out it was done on purpose. At the DCC this year I overheard a couple of guys walking over to one of Earl's matches talking about trying to see if they can get him upset. Unfortunately, I was in a crowd and I heard them better than I saw them and lot them. I would have loved to get those two jackasses tossed out.

I am not saying this is always the case, but I now know for a fact this goes on at least occasionally.

Are there people who would enjoy trying to get under Earl's skin....sure -- but from what I've seen, it's more about Earl's inner demons that lead him into self-destructive behavior...

I was at Shannon's tourney tonight and Earl gets up to shoot his match.
He wins the first game and in the middle of the second game a Woman opens a bag of chips and starts eating them. Earl ask her to stop and she said no . He rakes the balls packs his stuff and leaves .
The buyer in the Calcutta lost there money
There was standing room only and it was by no means a "Quiet" venue.
This man needs help !!!

In other professional sports like tennis or golf, it is expected that the audience quiet down when playing is underway.

Earl's request to have the woman stop eating chips was certainly a reasonable request. He should have spoken to the referee about it.

Close...and nice try....but what people don't realize...is that if it wasn't the chips...it WOULD have been something else...

Exactly !
He seems to need to ignite that inner fire and ALWAYS finds a confrontation somewhere.
Doug
( I play better while eating potato chips )

You want to know why Earl DIDN'T ask the ref to stop the lady from eating chips? The ref would have said, "You want me to do WHAT? Johnnyt

Will I'm up ! Need coffee......
After sleeping on it . What Earl did was messed up !!
Sure if he had a distraction he should had called Shanon over and had him intervene. The calcutta should and might be paid back by him before he plays another tourney.
This was no T.V. tournament. It was Tee shirt and jeans flip flops.
You want to talk about sharking !!
After this I would not be suprized to see bags of free potato chips handed out everywhere he go's.
This was pure nonsence

Poor Earl... When the chips are down, out come the chips...
LOL spilled my coffee !!! Hey He was WINNING !!!!!!
the match had just started he was up 1-0...!!

Seen a unknown 14yo kid take Larry Nevel hill hill last night . His not so unknown anymore !!!

I was there and watched the whole Earl incident. Earl asked politely for the woman to eat her chips after his match, he even offered to buy her the biggest bag of chips in town if she would wait. The woman replied "No, shut up and shoot pool you cry baby." This isn't an exageration either. I would have been pissed too if I was Earl.....would I have walked out? No, that was disrespectful to the tournament directors and the gentleman who owned him in the auction. But that woman was a *****.

I used to read about Earl's antics all of the time on this forum...and was never quite sure why these things kept happening...but from my perspective, please do not try to support his antics or try to side with him on any specific situation until you observe him acting-up for yourself -- then you will know.

I observed him last year in person...and it was all Earl. Earl started talking with spectators -- at first just to get them into talking with him -- and eventually he started to ask them questions about his shots in an attempt to get them to say something, anything...that he could use against them and to use to get into a confrontation with them.

Earl is mentally unstable right now...IMHO...and when people try to see things from "his" perspective -- try to make excuses for him -- or try to rationalize what happened to make it seem like Earl was in the right...you really don't know how wrong you are and how messed-up Earl is right now and how 100% responsible Earl is for all of these situations.

Just stating my opinion based on my own first-hand experience. Could Earl be a good guy to chat with in the hallway, certainly, but under the pressure of playing in pool events -- forget about it...

It's incredible (and ridiculous) that you can surmise all of this after watching Earl play ONE time in person. I have seen him play many times over the years, and have spoken to him at length about this very topic.

I don't know if anybody is defending Earl's actions here, but I will say this. Had it been another player, someone like Thorsten, Tony Robles or Ralf Souquet, and they had asked another player, or spectator to stop what they perceive to be disruptive actions, and after being asked, continued the offensive behavior, you would all be outraged. It doesn't matter that Earl has this propensity for self destructive behavior, but from what I read, he did everything a pro athlete should have done. He asked politely for the offending party to stop. They didn't and he left. It was the fans perogative to refuse, as it was earl's perogative to decide not to play under those conditions.

As far as the calcutta, someone suggested that he should pay it back before being able to participate in that event again. lol. first of all calcuttas are illegal. secondly, any purchasing a player is buying the player (and all thier imperfections), they are not buying their ability. It's a risky proposition, kinda like taking a gamble.

Earl uses:

1) "Sunglasses"

2) Finger Extensions

3) Elbow pads

4) 3/4 of a cue

5) a foam grip on his cue

Sounds to me like he needs to add one more accessory...

EAR PLUGS

and he needs to bring enough for everyone. Love ya Earl.

P.S. Scottster uses earplugs on g@y @ss trivia night at one of the local poolrooms.

shannon tourny

O.K. we got the down side, how about some info on the tourny results?? who was the kid who played larry n.?? who is you pick to win??

Larry was playing great (no surprise there)
Tony Watson was looking strong as usual.
Nick Varner won his first two matches I think 9-0, didn't see his third match.
Shannon was breaking like God and running out like.....Shannon:)
Brian White as hittting the balls well.
Should be interesting to see who wins.

I still like Larry Nevel or Nick Varner to win Sammy Jones was playing good to.
Larry's backed off his shatter ball break and has alot more control.

I think both Earl and the woman were wrong in this case. But I learned something from a Filippino stakehorse, something about how it is that the Filippino players play so well .....in their home country, the pool halls are anything but quiet. There is a racket in the stands with people sidebetting and hollering. Our players expect church-like conditions, but these guys are used to playing in a commotion .... that's why they concentrate so well. Earl should have learned to play over there.

that was pretty rude of her but i don't think i would have quit for that. if she really did speak to him like that then i think she should have been asked to leave as well
