In any other sport that woman would have been LED to the door.My god people, this is why we dont get big exposure in pool.
These players show up with professionalism and to have some p.o.s. trashy woman do this .......Lets look at the professionalism of the people running these tournies.

Earl never let the TD (Shannon Daulton) know what was happening. After the woman's comment, Earl quietly packed up his gear and left the pool room mumbling to himself about withdrawing.

Funny- That is three incidents that i know of specifically with potato chips. Very well could have beeen deliberate on the part of the fan.

A story i've told before. I was at the WPC in Cardiff watching a TV match w Earl. There is a commercial break and both players are in their chairs waiting the 2-3minutes for the commercials to run. During this time i decide to have a couple of Tic Tacs and i whip them out and make the normal amout of noise Tic Tacs make. All of a sudden as i am tic tac ing, i notice every one in the joint is looking at me. I look around trying to figure this out when i turn towards Earl in the chair and he is giving me the 'Earl Glare'. I guess i was breaking his in between racks concentration. Anyway i would have been embarrassed if it was during the match but as it was, it was just funny.

I completely agree.

I do believe the woman whom was eating some potato chips was the one who was really being rude and not Earl. She's not in a canteen and besides, her refusal to cooperate nicely and show some courtesy to the player playing was unfounded. besides, Earl has every right to do that sort of thing, the woman was obviously wanted to watch the match. Earl doesn't want to get distracted the sound of crunchy potato chips being munched. So I guess, Earl is just trying to make a point. "if you want to watch a match, then show some courtesy". I think that some people there are also dismayed by this woman's behavior. what would have been a match turned out to be a dissapointment, all because this woman refused to cooperate. so, she got what she wanted alright "eat her potato chips" after pissing some people off.

Don't you find it odd that all this stuff(potato chips, tables, talking, and probably breathing ) doen't seem to bother any of the other pro's. Johnnyt

Thanks for letting that be known, as I was fairly certain that was the case. Silly, short-sighted comments like Jimmy-Leggs' should be taken with a grain of salt or disregarded altogether. If the TD is never informed of an incident then how should he/she resolve it?

I guess Shannon should be allowed to continue running tournaments now since the facts are all in.

I also want to add about all there is to eat at the palace is chips and cold drinks . Most folks opt for delivery pizza there but, There #1 seller is small bag of chips. I'm sure in hind site she was not the only one in the room with a bag of chips in her hand .And like I said this was a tee shirt and flip-flop venue. Not the U.S. Open . All Earl had to do was tell Shanon and he would have rolled his eyes and ask the woman to stop.

Thats just too funny.:D :D :D I know people should be polite and not do that in the middle of a match, but there will always be people like that, there is nothing you can do about it. :)

No, but it seem to bother me regarding the woman's uncourteous reply to Earl. I believe that's the trigger for the whole thing. (the bag of potato chips started it, but the impolite response had done it !).

hahaha, you beat me to it, I was gonna make a joke about her.

Anyway I think its common knowledge that Earl is a conditions freak when it comes to his play at the tables; so this dones't suprise me.

But that lady is seriously rediculous, she's bein as rediculous as Earl is for leaving the tourney over it and definatly should have stopped.

I remember hearing a story that back in the day when Earl would play for money anytime he went to some of the pool halls in Georgia the owners of the pool hall would get in on the action then tell the cook of the joint to go boil a bunch of water becuase the humidity really threw off the tables and any condions problem would throw Earl way off his game; interesting story.

the way I imagine how the woman responded, she was like acting like somebody. I can only imagine the audacity of such. the walkout was the most silent response that Earl could've done. He was clearly jeered already and may want to avoid confrontation or another jeering which could've lead to trouble. there are other worst possibilities that could had happened. the woman might had received some cue beating from Earl. Let's be glad that sort of thing didn't happen.

I had a "GOOD FRIEND" do the same thing to me in a match. I asked him to stop, he refused..I QUIT!! It is a sharking technique. I would find out who the woman was. Maybe, just maybe, she was with the opponent. I mean if a player politely ask you to stop doing something...Why would you continue doing it. Imagine if a fan was eating chips as Tiger tee'ed off. He asks her to stop and she said NO! NBC, Buick, Nike would have her shot. So no need to Earl bash here!

I agree, give Earl his whipping with a wet noodle when it is due.

I don't think Earl was wrong in this situation. The spectator who AFTER BEING ASKED TO STOP, refused and she is the one who should have been asked to leave by the tournament director.

Thanks for keeping us up to date on Earl's continued involvement with pool.

I still

think the woman is clearly in the wrong. She could have gone somewhere else, ate the chips, and then came back to the playing area. Earl was probably nicer than he could have been, and besides if he had gone to get Shannon, and had Shannon take care of it, whos to say, other spectators might not have jeered him because he was a tattletale

I have no doubts that other players are disturbed at times, but don't say anything when they really would like to. Imagine being down 6-1, and lining up on the first shot you have had in 4 games, and all of sudden hear the loud crunching of potato chips. These guys make their living from this sport, and you are interfering with their livilihood.

It is a privilege to be able to see the pros play, not a right to, just as driving is a privilege, not a right.

I would have just said, Hey you 2 guys there, grab her under the arms and haul that b**** out of here........ LOL

And I find it a little surprising that such a tournament with so many pros in it being held in a room with less than full service (bar, food, pro shop type things).

Plus, I find it a little disconcerting that Shannon or the Room Owner did not make an announcement concerning conduct when watching the matches being played. I would think if spectators became too bad at a particular location, that pros would be hesitant to come back.

Evelyn Dysert usually makes an announcement about conduct when watching the matches before the tournament starts playing.

Well, I guess Earl won't do well in our Mall tournaments, will he? Kids running around, announcements being made every few minutes and talking on the mic, trick shots and clapping, etc.

However, I do agree that the woman was incredibly rude, in a fairly quiet venue, to deny Earl's request. Dan Louie asked a spectator not to eat or crinkle her chip bag and it was granted, because in the quiet of that tomb, you really could hear it and were forced to focus on that racket! :p

Earl compounded the wrongdoing, by forfeiting.

Earl thinks the world should stop turning while he shoots !
You had to be there to see how stupid it was ..

Look Earl has done some stupid things in his time like we all have but do you really think it is appropriate for players to be PRACTICING JUMP SHOTS on a table near the tournament tables?

I once lost a tournament because another tournament player (next to the finals tournament table) who had already lost his two matches & was repeatedly practicing his ability to jump a cue ball off of the side rail while I was playing in the final game of the final match. I stopped and easy run out waiting for him to see that it was interupting my flow and when he finally stopped I began the completion of my runout only to shoot the balls out of consecutive order and give my opponent cue in hand. (And no, my opponent didn't tell me I was about to shoot the wrong ball but he did see that my inning at the table had been rudely interupted. The winning of the match apparently was more important to him than being a good sportsman).

I just don't see Earl being in the wrong here either.

Seriously, please explain to me how Earl was out of line and Larry Nevel was not out of line. Larry is a professional for crying out loud. He knows better than that.

Larry is a good guy and posts occasionally here on AZ and I hope he responds to this thread.

Distractions of this type, let alone the cumulative effect of multiple distractions will make even the best pool player in the world miss.

Sammy and Larry stopped . Not a problem but, let me ask you this what
if your playing and the table next to you is playing and the guy on the other table makes a jump shot in tourney play in the middle of your stroke ? you have to block this stuff out when shooting . Pin drop quiet is in finals play on T.V. not the local billiard hall...
