Earl

A lesson on how to get "back in line" when mean ole Mr. Simonis roles the OB to fast on the combo.

Great shot. He seems to be using the technique where you aim center ball on your practice strokes, do NOT adjust for deflection, and then adjust your aim to using english during the final follow through. Bert Kinister has a video on this (#19) and says he learned the technique from Tony Robles. The point of the technique is avoid the need to adjust your aim to compensate for deflection. I just happened to start practicing the technique a few weeks ago and I'm amazed how it works.

In TAR Podcast #4, Earl shots this type of shots a half dozen times starting at 49:45. It's funny when he challenges Shane to try the same shot.

I play a similar shot with actually a low ball. The shot I play is probably an inch steeper cut angle. You are not drawing the ball, rather the low gets it to the rail quicker and the spin then takes it way down table, but it stays near the long rail during its travel. It's a finesse shot, a bit jacked up as well.

I think he is the best in the world at these kind of shots. It is so fun to watch him play because you never know when he going to pull those shots off

I agree! I think he has the best "stroke" of ANY 9-ball player in the world. He may not be able to beat them all the time anymore, but when he is hitting them good he hits them better than anybody.

left...

I mean it was a good shot and all, but nothing too spectacular in my opinion.

Well, im a bum, so anything like that impresses the hell out of me. I try anything like that and the cue ball winds up on the floor.

After seeing the thread and making my last post I went to my table and tried the shot last night.

It is definitely not an easy shot and deserved the applause it got, but on the same note, there was no real insane stroke or anything else with it either. I shot it with left and a light bit of high and received the same results on the second try. The first try the cue ball performed as it should but I rattled the ball.

Don't get me wrong, its a damn good shot, but not unobtainable. I should hope that most AZers have the stroke for a shot like this.

If you made it slide like that with just "a light bit of high" - wow

I really didnt put to much high on it.... from the looks of it, neither did Earl. That was mainly spin that carried him up there. If he would have put high on it as well the ball would have went up to the short rail much faster, especially if you are force following it, the cue ball would have probably ended up in the side pocket that it came close to after hitting the 2nd rail or even down table more past it.

Have to agree with that. It's certainly not as impressive as this version:
