You never know..It might be genius...It might lead to a Nike contract.....or...He could be doing it just because he likes the way it feels...

Apparently it's working whatever it is...he's playing for the hot seat. Finished 4th in the U.S. Open wearing it. Not too shabby.....I just might check into getting one myself.

gota agree with you there rick its working for him ,whatever it takes, i wear a gloves on my bridge hand for a few reason i have a very ugly thumb that was injured in an accident that i dont like seen, i dont like powder all over my own table and my hands sweat alot.it would be inteteresting the hear how a glove does come into play on ones grip hand, anyone ever ask Earl im an inquiring mind i'd like to know.if it would make me play like him i'd wear one on both feet

Someone asked Earl last week and he said now that he is older he finds himself sweating more and the gloves keep his hands dry. He had a ski glove on his right hand while playing Mike Davis and then he switched to a beige 5 finger cloth glove during his match with Troy Frank.

Have you seen the wrap he has on his cues?
He is not wearing the glasses any more as far as I know; however, you need to check out the grip he has put on his cues, they are really amazing. I wonder where he had them made.
I believe he is wearing a golf glove/ski glove on his grip hand.
I also saw him wearing something on his ears when he was playing some of his matches. It looked like a hand free phone headset with what looked like a mouth piece except that he had them on both ears. It may be a pair of wireless headset for his MP3 player but I cannot figure out why would they have a speaker type of thing going from his ear to his mouth?
Looking from a distance, he looked like a secret CIA agent. ;)

I have heard that the glove he uses for butt end of his cue is actually a hand ball glove.

I jsut find it funyn with the stuff he uses, but hey if it works for him then all the better. He may be makin a prime comeback!!!!!!! Not that he ever really lost it but yas know

Yes, I admire him for not caring what others may say and just do what feels right for him and his game. It takes a lot of character to do that in my opinion.
Besides, it is really interesting to watch what he comes up with next time, it is almost like a game in its own right. ;)

I don't see a big issue with a butt hand glove.

I usually don't but I have. My reason is that I can shoot half fast left handed, right handed by nature, and if I make a left handed shot I pull my other glove from my back pocket and don't remove it.

Let me also add that IMHO Earl is a weird bird regardless of glove habits.

Earl actually told me about this:

He said that he is the type of guy that sweats a lot. When he walks from his car across the parking lot into the convention center, he works up a sweat from the Virginia heat (it is hot down there!). When he walks into the convention center, it's really cold from the AC and he clams up. So, aside from his bridge hand glove, he wears a heavy sweater, a baseball glove on his right hand, and uses a tennis wrap on the butt of his cue. I said go for it! Whatever works.

Wendy<---yes, I am an Earl fan.

I don't like some of the things Earl does, but I do like to watch him play. He also was very nice to me when I met him practicing at a place in Ohio, Starchers I think the name was?...He chatted with me a while, and we both went back to hitting balls...Gerry

I wouldn't be surprised to see Earl show up to a match with a helmet on :)

j/k for all you hardcore Earl fans

Just a guess but a baseball glove helps you grip the bat better. Maybe he wants to prevent the cue from slipping in his hand like it will tend to do if you grip it lightly.

I think that just like anything else- when you try something new- for a while it works for you, and you keep trying it until it doesn't do the job.

So, we will wait to see Earl shows up in a tournament in helmet, ear piece, mouth piece, X Ray glasses, ski glove, golf glove, pool glove, baseball bat grip, and flippers. Did I miss anything?
