i had my buddy NEW YORK JOE'S pechauer on ebay recently with a $650 buy it now
i got an email from a person named denise mckee deweyberk@youngharley.com
deweyburk on ebay lists california as home
asking what shipping would be to japan
she gives me an address, i go thru the post office online claculator and come up with $33.65
she then asks when i can ship the cue
obvious answer from me, "when i get the money"

a few minutes later i get an email notification that tigress65@msn.com has sent me cash
that was the first red flag
a different email address
i then checked the ebay listing, it was still active
she didn't use the buy it now
another red flag

after i questioned this person as to why the email addresses were different & why not use the buy it now option, i got a variety of replies that just didn't sound kosher to me
so, i just sat on it for a few days waiting to see what might happen
i got a couple more emails from her saying i was being mean and i should just ship the cue
i replied, basically telling her that i don't feel comfortable with the transaction and if i'm wrong i aplogize, but, i will not ship that cue anywhere until i have confirmation from paypal that it is a legit deal
i've sent several emails to TIGRESS with no reply

i've contacted ebay & paypal and, as usual, all i get back from them is their standard typical automated response , not to go outside of ebay & blah blah blah
ok, i'm used to thier bs about that
but, i have $683.65 in my paypal acct that does not belong to me
i don't know what to do with it
again, i keep asking paypal about this and i get the same bullshit pretyped response with my name added to the top of page
the first thing someone is going to say to me is "have you called paypal?"

no, i have not
reason why, because i don't have an extra hour and half to get jerked around on the phone by them as i have in the past
they are masters at passing the buck and reading off of whatever script they have in front of them
patience is by no means one of my virtues!!!!!!!!!!!!
i don't know if this is a case of stolen identity, credit card theft or what

has anyone had an experience like this?
how did you reslove it?
how long before someone discovered the money was stolen?

this is from the paypal invoice

Hi I sell the Stroketrainer and i have learned that if its not confirmed by paypal done send it. I had a friend that got a stroketrainer from me and he was telling me he lost a $2600.00 pool stick by sending it to someone that wasn't confirmed on there. He sold it off ebay. I am like you i would wate untill i had the money before i sent it. Good luck, Doug

Agreed. You have the right to cancel the sale if you find the transaction to be suspicious of fraud.

I wonder if you can tell if the transaction was funded through credit card or bank debit? I think that matters alot. Unconfirmed on paypal smells like the big screwing although I have honestly had people pay me when i brokered off some disney vacation club points from unconfirmed addresses. Apples and oranges though, as here its ebay (fraudster central) vs disney message boards (pretty small circle and the points are something I can contest directly with disney should someone screw me with paypal).

Yes, it's the same fraud going around for awhile now - Jay Helfert ran into them.

Also....

Careful not to absentmindedly sign into your account off these e-mails or they'll hijack yours too. If you think you might have, cange your password asap.

Thanks Chris. You beat me to it. Sounds like a similar scam. They sent me $4,800 via Paypal for two high end cues. I almost sent them out to. But something smelled fishy so I called Chris, and he advised me not to send them yet. Turned out he was right. The money was taken back by Paypal a couple of days later.

I went round and round with the buyer?, Paypal and eBay for a while. In the end nothing was really resolved other than this person hijacked someone else's e-Bay account to communicate with me. And they used a bogus credit card to fund Paypal. The good news is I never sent the cues. I did sell them later to legit buyers.

And the deal looked the same. Buyer was addressed in Pennsylvania and wanted them shipped to Japan. Right away! I had a phone number for the buyer, but when I called I got an answering machine and no one ever returned my calls. By the way, the buyer communicated in somewhat broken english via e-mails to me. And they were supposed to be from Pennsylvania. I suspect they were from Japan as well.

So BE CAREFUL!!!!

I had a Kilby cue on Ebay and the same thing from the same person happened to me. Only difference, was that I covered my buttocks first.
Seemed fishy to me so after receiving the funds from "Hubert Ausie" aka Deweyberk@youngharley.com, I contacted Paypal and asked them what I should do. They said ship the cue so I do.
One thing was that the address that the cue went to came back as confirmed with the credit card used.
1 week later they put a hold on my account for these funds.
I sent them the email from Paypal stating that Paypal told me to ship the cue, the confirmation from Paypal that the address to send the cue to matched up with the credit card given etc..
2 weeks later, the reversal was given back to me and I got the money back. Should have gone with my gut and not sent the cue but it worked out in the long run because of the email from Paypal stating that I should send the cue and the confirmation of the ship to address.

My advice. Do not send the cue. I got the same BS about I am not trying to be mean from the seller.. yada yada yada I guarantee the funds will be removed from your account eventually. This is a scam and I luckily got out of it in spite of my mistake.

PM me if you need any more info.

Peace, Joe

Sounds like the scammers got what they deserved for a change. Now that you have the cash for your buddy, I'll give ya $50 to ship the cue to me.;)

Brent...do not send out the cue!! Also, you have the option of refunding them the monies sent.

About 4 tears ago I had a weird experience with a Nintendo system I was selling for my son. They demanded I ship the item immediately...the next day. Problem was, they had paid with an e-Check. When I told him I would not ship until the check cleared, he began demanding I ship again, and then started threatening me with bodily harm. That was enough, I hit the refund button, and sent them their money back.

Or, you could leave it sit there until Paypal comes to take it back...but they'll freeze your account until the issue is resolved. I only accept PayPal now from people I know and trust....such as members here. For everything else, I have been requesting MO or Cashiers Checks, or Bank Wire Transfer.

Hello

How does this work actually? If someone pays you through paypal then after receiving the goods they report that the funds was transfered without authorization as their acct was hack etc etc, paypal can simply remove the funds from your acct?

Just more reasons to not use paypal. Before flea-bay bought them they were a pretty decent outfit but since then. Customer service = no service. I use us postal money orders for all my purchases, I know they aren't perfect either, and some sellers have got fake money orders, but I prefer to send payment that way.

you can send the emails to spoof@ebay.com and they take very serious action againist the person that sent it to you ebay gets ahold of the cops and sends the fake emails to them:)

thanks[/QUOTE
i've done all of that travis. that's what i mentioned above. the only responses from ebay & paypal i have received are the "pre-typed" responses.
i dunno, maybe in a year or two , they'll do something

Hi Chris,

Yes, they can remove them from your paypal account but I don't think they can remove them from your bank account once the money has been transferred.

However, ultimately any "charge back" is your responsibility - so you have to be very careful. I always verify identities when I can of people I don't know before shipping or paying larger amounts.

I've had had no problems like this on e-bay or paypal but I am very careful and I've also been very lucky.

i take it you don't like my bigger font . that's what i need today, somebody *****ing about something like that. can you read this better???

after listening to 30 minutes of elevator music i actually got to speak to a human being at paypal
told them the whole story
sent them emails again
paypal said for me to refund the $683 to tigress
i was surprised to say the least
i said "do you realize this could be exactly what this scammer wants me to do? that this may make it easier for them to actually get the possibly stolen money into thier hands?
PAYPAL said they would handle it
so, screw it
i have a sinking feeling that somebody somewhere has $683 ripped off from thier stolen credit card acct
