Efren definitely not yet paid

I just got back from the Philippine 9-ball Open in Manila. I sat and talked with Efren for a while. Among other things, I asked him if he had received his money from the IPT yet. He said had not yet received it.

Perhaps that will clear up any confusion because in another thread people in Manila were claiming he had indeed gotten paid. Well, the horses mouth said otherwise...

I already knew that from talking to Santos last week. I chose not to post it then.

So you knew about this Linda and didn't want to say anything. Shame on you.

I'm really hoping KT will strike oil somewhere so you guys will get what's due.
I respect your decision not to post your conversation with Santos. You've
been getting a lot of flak lately, and all you wanted if to keep them informed.

What a cruel world we live in.
tsk... tak... tsk...

It wasn't that I was hiding anything. It was out of respect for the others who thought their information was correct and not 'chastising' them in public. I PM'ed the one that started that thread and told him my info.

Prize money delay doesn’t bother Bata Reyes

Published on Page A26 of the October 4, 2006 issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer

EFREN “BATA” REYES has yet to receive his $500,000 (P25 million) prize money for ruling the 2006 International Pool Tour (IPT) World 8-Ball Open. But the Hall of Famer is far from worried.

Neither are the rest of the Filipinos who took part in the IPT Tour, nor their managers --despite nasty rumors that the IPT is a scam.

Reyes said he and his colleagues have faith in the IPT, founded by Kevin Trudeau, which is reportedly being acquired by Macau billionaire and gambling magnate Stanley Ho to the tune of $150 million.

“Hindi ako nag-aalala, alam mo naman na hindi lang ako ang sumali doon at lahat kami ay may tiwala sa IPT (I’m not worried, it’s not only me who took part in the event and all of us have faith in the IPT),” said Reyes.

“Walang katotohanan ‘yun [IPT is a scam]. Normal lang na minsan na-late yung prize money, pero binibigay din (That’s not true. It’s normal that the prize money is given late sometimes).

“Nakuha ko naman ang mga prize money nung mga sinalihan ko sa IPT, eto lang ang late. Pero pinadalahan kami ng sulat ni Mr. Trudeau na medyo late lang nang konti. Isa pa, may kasulatan na kami (I’ve gotten my prize money from the IPT events I took part in, it’s only the World Open which is late. But Mr. Trudeau sent us a letter informing us of this development. For another, we already have a contract).”

Marlon Manalo, the 2005 World Pool 9-ball semifinalist who was eliminated in the second round of the World Open, concurred with Reyes.

“Hindi pa dumarating ‘yung premyo namin sa IPT, pero ‘yung unang event nila na malaki naayos na (Our prizes from the IPT have yet to arrive, but their first big event has been settled),” Manalo said.

Manalo is referring to the last IPT North American 8-Ball Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he pocketed $99,000 for finishing second to German Thorsten Hohmann.

Trudeau e-mailed the managers (including Aristeo “Putch” Puyat and Perry Mariano) of the players concerned explaining the reasons for the delay.

The biggest factor, according to Trudeau, is the finalization of the IPT acquisition by the Ho Interactive.

Online billiards forums, most notably the AZBilliards.com, have gathered over 20,000 messages commenting and denouncing the inability of IPT to hand out the prize money on time.

Puyat, acknowledged as Philippine billiards godfather and benefactor of Puyat and Francisco “Django” Bustamante, is convinced that Trudeau will honor his commitments.

“In the first two big events of IPT they have shelled out abut $3.5 million in prizes,” said Puyat. “Out of that amount more than $700,000 went to Filipino players.” With a report from Marlon Bernardino

Ok fair enough it doesn't bother them because they already made a big earn out of the ipt. But the others who struggles to make ends meet have every right to make themselves be heard

Sorry to hear that, but thank's for the info anyway.

was just a show/scam??? because the awards ceremony didn't have anything to do with the IPT, regardless of wether the IPT is "just a show/scam." The presentation had everything to do with recognizing three of the worlds greatest cueists.

The fact still remains that the people saying that Reyes and/or Bustamante had been paid were wrong.

I posted the story of the awards ceremony here:

I'm not doing my share?

Hey Linds,

Let me get this straight. I relate exactly what Efren mentioned to me and all of the sudden I'm not doing my share for Philippine pool? Excuse me? Me, not doing my share for Philippine pool? Ask around and see if you can find out what I've done for Philippine pool lately. Why don't you read the last few issues of Billiards Digest, where Philippine pool has gotten more positive international coverage than ever before. (Including a massive cover story on Efren.) When you've done your homework, then see if you have a leg to stand on when you want to slander me in a public forum.

Who cares why Gloria Arroyo beknighted Efren? There's no relation to him not getting paid and her inviting him to the palace. The fact that he won in Reno is a feat in itself. The honor was given because of his cumulative winnings, not just IPT. He's being honored because he's a Filipino legend and folk hero. Also The president happens to like pool, and she's the one that gave the go ahead for the government to be one of the principal sponsors in the upcoming World Pool Championship.

Why would telling a lie about his winnings be good for Philippine pool? If Efren never collects, it takes absolutely nothing away from his legend and greatness. Get a grip Linds....

LOL! This is a very good example of reading comprehension DEFICIENCY!
Getting Paid means transfer of assets or legal tender, CASH. Getting paid doesn't mean recieving a check because a check is just a document ordering payment of specified amount on a specified date.

Nobody stated that it, for lack of factual evidence, was encashed. This check reciept story came about from Rolando's saying to Linds , in my presence, "You'll be surprised if I suddenly buy every cue in your shop when the check clears". To this Linds asked "When did you recieve the Reno check?" And the answer was "YESTERDAY". So that's the situation when and where the info originated from.

Now you folks be the judge, Ted may have gotten the fact about the "CASH" but his reading comprehension flew out the window with what he stated that we "people in Manila" said in the other thread. The nerve twisting the story, Ted! LOL!

So 'the real check' has arrived, and as it should be legal, the cash comes when the bank clears it.

So the story goes on..

Something is screwy here. Did he get the check? Or not? If he did, why would Efren tell someone he had not been paid yet? Well, I look forward to my visit there in November. I guess we'll know then whether Efren got any money or not.
