Efren putting on a clinic playing one pocket on TAR

That last rack at hill-hill was simply insane!

The nerves were evident. That 7 and out didn't seem probable when Efren locked those 2 balls up by the side. But damn if he didn't execute difficult shape to get on the right side of that 10 ball to break the cluster. WOW!

Good job Ken and Bobby! And thanks to TAR and all the sponsors for being at the helm of an epic match.

Here's a recap, inning by inning, of the final game (which lasted about 14 minutes).

R -- opening break into 3rd ball (good break)

VB -- safety

R -- missed straight-back bank on 13-ball

VB -- 2-way shot: missed billiard of 11-ball off 9-ball, safe with CB

R -- kicked in 11-ball for VB, leaving CB in jaws (score 1-0 VB)

VB -- made cross-corner bank on 14-ball, made nice long cut on 8-ball down rail, missed the 9/15 combo (score 3-0 VB)

R -- missed a short, easy cut on the 6-ball

VB -- made the 9-ball, then caromed in the 6-ball for ER (score 4-1 VB)

R -- missed cross-corner bank on the 3-ball

VB -- made 15-ball going rail first, then missed the straight-in 2-ball from a slightly jacked-up position near the long rail (score 5-1 VB)

R -- ran 7 & out for the win. But the run-out included missing the cluster in the middle and going up-table after making his first shot, then making a long 13-ball with good position on the cluster, then tying up the 4-ball and 5-ball near the side rail and having to break them up to get out. (Final score 8-5 ER)

Sorry if anyone thought me pulling for Efren was out of line. I never applauded at any time when Shane got a bad roll or missed a ball either. I like Shane as much as anyone and hated to see him miss a ball or lose. As far as me making a cheap sweat bet on the match, big deal. When either player made a great shot or a bad one I commented, I thought that was part of the job. I had fun doing the match and I'm sorry if I offended any body by me pulling for the old timers, thanks Robert

Once again I never clapped or was glad when Shane got a bad roll or any thing like that ! I praised him just like I did Efren when they both made un-believable shots and I also commented when they hit balls bad. I played pool on the road for 40 years I do know better, thanks again Robert

Hey there. I was in the studio and I'm not even sure if I could've told you who was pulling for whom. After a little bit, I think most people realized that they were just watching an awesome match and show of talent. Everybody was clapping for both of their shots.

So, since that was my first TAR experience, I'm going to expect something better the second time.

On our way there, I asked if I needed to grab some beer nearby.. boy, was I pleasantly surprised.

Care to elaborate?

You think the commentators weren't pullng for Jack Nicklaus at the last Masters he won at age 46?

Efren is a living legend. I had $50 bet on him just for old times sake - hoping he would somehow play like Efren of old - and I was jumping up and down so much I had the dog barking and everyone in the house awake. I really think you called it well. Your knowledge of one pocket is obvious. I like the way you've commented every time I've heard you on TAR.

You might say we've taken a cotton to you.

He's got refreshments and snacks there! Good thing it wasn't an Earl match.. a room full of people popping cans open and tearing into cheetos bags wouldn't have turned out well. :D

Lol, when you say refreshements, what we talking? Give up the info! I might be attending one and am curious to who alls drinking etc. I saw the Mars man on the stream. Did he have his usual Crown?

Nothing was out of line.

It was obvious to me that both of you were rooting for good play. The comments regarding the sweat bet were just color. Good job guys!

You know too much.. we may have to, ahem, take care of you.

He's got a well-stocked fridge that would make any married man or bachelor envious. At least, he's got the basics covered with just about any soda you'd want, gatorade, then the usual suspects for beer.. miller lite, bud, some other stuff that I can't remember. I just looked in and grabbed whatever sounded good at the time.

There were also grab bags of chips, red vines, uhh I think Shane's g/f or somebody had some chocolate, I want to say I remember beef jerky, too. I had an odd feeling that the person in charge of food had the munchies.

I still felt a little odd not bringing beer, though. Next time I'll have it planned a little better. It was definitely an experience that I couldn't have planned out any better. Like I mentioned in my other post.. all of the folks there that I got to meet, on top of the exceptional match.. wow.

It was also pretty cool to see how he's got the place set up, too. I had a nice, comfy couch spot.. not that I really needed much more than the edge of the seat most of the time, though.

shhhh

really need some standards for commentators, so pro efren it wasnt funny, but as soon as efren leaves the country they will be back on the svb wagon.. watch.

@ Tate, thanks for your comment, lots of people were pulling for Efren, not because we wanted Shane to lose but these are the last few years that we'll get to see the greatest all-around player of all times compete in a head up match like this. They are both class acts, they are both winners of course !!!!

They were very neutral to both players they were just pulling for Efren like what was said before its the last few years we are going to get to see the Legend play this game that we love but they were still amazed at some of the shots pulled out at the end of the 10ball games

Enjoyed it a lot, normally 1p can be hard to watch the whole set (for me). But this one grabbed me.

I don't mind commentators rooting for a particular player, but it did feel like a little too much this time.
I think because both commentators seemed to be rooting for efren.
Wouldn't have been so bad if one wants efren and the other's pulling for shane.

The booth gave shane credit where it's due but felt like both guys going "awww! so close!"
every time efren missed, but when shane missed it's... "welp, that's definitely an error.
Alright come on Efren let's capitalize! win the next five!"

Bobby, I can't say you like actively cheered or clapped at shane's bad rolls but there were times
where you seemed to be pulling for a bad roll in progress. Like shane's cue ball was gonna either
graze a ball and sell out, or roll to a safe spot and you're like "KISS IT!"
Maybe I'm remembering wrong and I'm reading too much into things.
I do enjoy your commentary and I'm about 1/3rd of the way into your book.
