On the Efren vs Shane one pocket MIH match, Shane was up 7-6, and both players had a ball hanging in their holes. Efren was at the table. Below is Phil Capelle's summary of this shot from the story on the main page. http://www.azbilliards.com/news/stories/12054-reyes-wins-2015-accu-stats-make-it-happen-one-pocket/

Phil says:
At this point two balls were on the table, one in front of each player’s pocket. Reyes inexplicably shot in Van Boening’s hanger and tried to make his on the same shot! This mental lapse handed game three to Van Boening, and he now led, 2 games to 1.

I don't think it was a mental lapse. I watched it live, and I "think" Efren was trying somethgin fancy. Like kicking out Shane's hanging ball to move it in position for a bank, and then on the same shot caroming into his own hanging ball so he would keep his turn. This would have won him the game. Did anyone else see it this way?

Sorry if this has been discussed already. Thanks.

Edit, add picture:
Here is the shot the way I remember it "from memory". The coin is Efren's pocket. Efren went rail first off the right side of Shane's ball, (pocketing it), and the CB caromed and just missed Efren's ball. Now, exactly how the balls were sitting in the pocket I have no idea.

I think i agree. Either something fancy like you said, or maybe he just did a real bad job at just getting it out. The way he made it (kind of a back kick) was definitely not an easy shot. If he was trying to make both balls for some reason, there was probably an easier way to do it.

I agree that Efren was trying to remove the ball from SVB's pocket and carom into his leaving himself a bank if it goes. If he was simply trying to take it out he would have used more speed...and Efren's not that old yet that he thought if he made both balls he would have won since he needed 2.

But he did hit it so bad that people didn't know what he was trying to do. I thought it was a brilliant shot choice, that didn't work out.

I love Efren!

I agree...unless he brain farted on the score, no way does he intentionally make that ball AT ANY POINT, without scratching behind it.

Like my man Jim Byrd used to say: I was tryin somethin there:o

It would be good to know exactly where Shane's ball was. There are some amazing take-out shots.

I think Efren was trying to hit the ball twice....thin on the way in with inside english and
hit it again to send it towards his hole....
....a variation of the Jersey Red shot.

He hit it too thick and knocked it right in.

That's what it looked like to me. I think Shanes ball favored the short rail point. Rail first on long rail, bump off point, reposition along long rail close to pocket, carom off SVB, make Efrens's hanger, bank last ball....another miracle...almost.

That would have sold some DVD's.

"Mental lapse" explains it for me. I think when he saw the set up, his vision of the possibility of the shot crowded out the reality of the shot. Like if he had thought about it for a little longer he would've realized that wasn't the shot. The way he shot it, it was clear he was only trying to make both balls, as the angle wasn't quite right to knock away the opponent's ball, imho.
