Who's using em ? How are you liking em ? Just need some input before I make a switch. Had a leather wrap and could never get used to it .Switched
back to linen. Have played for a couple of short 20-30 min intervals with a cue with a elephant ear wrap and loved it .Just want to hear from someone who has had one for more than 6 months or so.

Well I like mine. A few things though for those looking to get leather. Elephant ear wraps are pretty smooth which doesn't bother me much since I normally prefer no wrap. They have a bit of a cushiony feel though, at least mine does, so you get a bit of grip that way. All leather wraps can be affected by a moist hand. I have sweaty hands so I have to wipe my hands often to keep from having the wrap become slippery (and being stained). Hope this helps.

Elephant ear wraps ?? Are you serious?

I think 8pack is just new to the idea of elephant ear wraps. I'm seeing more and more cues with elephant ear, apparently alot of people like them. I'm defintely looking into try one out myself.

I have one on my Gilbert and it isn't smooth or cushy at all. In fact, it has kind of a rough texture to it. I was told it is tough enough you could take a wire brush to it and not hurt it and I don't doubt it.

Mine looks brand new after 8 months of play. I admit I don't play very much but it still look as as good as it did when I got it. I hope you are prepared to shell out a little for the wrap, last I checked they were about 350 installed.

I love mine!

I just picked up a new Richard Chudy cue with an elephant wrap, and could not be happier!

I have wanted to try one for a while for 2 reasons.

1. It's got a nice textured feel to it, and

2. It's supposed to last practically forever.

While I don't have more than a few days on it, I can say that I am VERY happy with the decision to go with elephant. It's just awesome in terms of feel and grip, and the look really adds class to the cue.

He asked the question so he's probably serious. Are you saying you don't like leather? That's fine but say why.

I like leather wraps,just never heard of a elephant ear wrap.I wouldn't
doubt they are good wraps but the thought of a elephant ear on my cue
might be hard to get use to.

LOL.....elephant ear just describes the texture.
Of course I guess some might actually be around.

I built a cue for Joe Rogan almost a year ago & he insisted on elephant ear. It's actual elephant ear leather. It's very porous & rough, like a cat's tongue. He has it on several of his cues & swears by it, says he can't play with anything else now. His hands sweat & like anybody with sweaty hands, it's annoying playing with smooth wrap or wrapless cues. The elephant ear is perfect for sweaty handed players. It's expensive but well worth it for anybody who likes good grip or has sweaty hands.

Just reread the OPs post...My bad. I thought they were talking about trying a different leather texture not the actual ear from Dumbo. lol
Carry on.

There is Elephant hide and Elephant Ear, the Ear is quite expensive as compared to the hide. If someone is charging Ear prices, make sure you are really getting Ear. Regular hide is very hard to split to .026 without developing holes, while true Ear does not have that problem.

As a whole, Elephant will last a long time and give the same feel as the day it was new.

I had Ernie put one on last year. It's probably the best looking wrap I've ever seen and love it.

But, it is not for everyone. The texture is a bit rough, almost sandpaper like. If you've got a big stroke, and play a lot, chances are you will develop a callous on the inside of your grip hand thumb. It's rough enough that it's even dangerous to rub across the front of a nice silk shirt. If you're a slip stroke kinda guy, it probably shouldn't be your first choice for a wrap.

But I play mostly 1pocket and, occasionally, a 14.1 practice session, so it's not a big issue for me. I don't remember the cost, because he was doing a lot of work for me all at once, but it wasn't cheap. In fact, I almost fainted when I got outside his shop and realized how much I'd just handed him, in cash, for work on a cue I already owned :-o

Loy, thanks for tip about the roughness of the elephant ear wrap. I'm expecting delivery of a cue any day now which has an elephant ear wrap. I've already got a callus on the inside of my index finger from a lizard wrap. Maybe I'll have to start wearing a glove on my non-bridge hand. That should get some comments.

And that's a beautiful cue you've got there.

I have an Elephant ear wrap on my cue. I like it.
I've had Leather and Lizzard Skin as well.
I think its a novelty thing, they all feel similar.
I'm not sure if one last longer than the others.

Smooth grain elephant can be a fabulous cue wrap and costs 1.6 times more per square foot than elephant ear from the tannery. It is not cheaper or inferior by any means. The hair follicle issue is an ongoing challenge, of course. Splitting elephant ear is also a challenge and varies ear to ear. There are vasty different tannages and feels and grades of elephant ear. The ear I like the best is very similar to smooth grain elephant and does not feel particularly coarse.
