Elephant ear?

OK someone please reassure me that this is EE PRINT using cowhide or pigskin, and not ACTUAL elephant ear leather...

I am OK with the pre-ban ivory used on cues, since it is already here and catalogued, though I don't personally have any cues with Ivory, but if some cruel, heartless MFer is killing elephants for the skin off their ears, I have zero respect for ANY cue maker, player, or retailer/seller of such goods.

I am aware that some elephants are culled throughout parts of Africa and Asia for population control, though I question the ethics of this also. Elephants are social, intelligent, and self-aware animals. To me, this is one very small step from Eight-Ball Eddie showing up with a cue wrapped with Uncle Larry's skin.

Why can't we be pleased with Irish linen?

Unfortunately, it is exactly what the name entails, skin of the ears from elephants.

Agree 100%

Bragging rights to other heartless people.

Yes, EE is elephant ear. EE print is probably printed cow or pig. What I don't understand is why is it more morally egregious, to you, that elephant ear is used compared to a poor pigs skin? Pigs are also very intelligent, social and self aware animals. They also feel pain, care for their young, and scream when in fear. What did a pig ever do to you?

I've never eaten an elephant, but I do know that pigs are delicious. Their skin is pretty much the only part you don't eat too so what else are you gonna do with it but make footballs and such?

You've never tasted roasted pig.
The skin is the best part.

There are millions more pigs than elephants....for a reason. The reason is that raising pigs, killing them and selling them for whatever use is not illegal, but doing that with elephants is.

That's why there are few elephants and many pigs: no elephant marketing allowed.

If anyone wants to save the elephant species, therein lies the method.

I once had a cue wrapped in foreskin.
but after playing with it for 10 minutes it would swell up and I couldn't grip it correctly.

With all due respect, and I mean all due respect, it is most likely that human beings will be the cause of killing 99% of all life on this planet, including elephants.

7,000,000,000+ human beings and counting, what could possibly go wrong with another few billion of us blasting through resources? There is no population control or really natural selection at all for the human race. Just Darwin award winners.

EE Wraps....Not My Cup of Tea.....Could Use Some Help.

I presently own six (6) cues and five (5) have Cortland and Blue Mountain Linen wraps and one (1) has elephant ear because it's original to my Prewitt cue and changing it isn't an option since all my cues are kept in original condition.

Anyway, in regard to EE wraps, I dislike the one on my EP cue.....I cannot get adjusted to the feel of the elephant ear......it feels like the grips on my golf clubs.........I might add this is the first leather wrap cue I have ever owned. The problem today is there is no more Cortland Linen or Blue Mountain........Cortland is becoming scarce and anything but #9 is impossible to locate. I searched for 2 years searching for some #12.......another Azer ultimately steered me to a cue-maker who had a roll in old inventory........I immediately bought some and had the #12 sent direct to Jerry, Unfortunately, the quality was really poor and it couldn't be used so Cortland #9 was substituted.

Back to elephant ear wraps.......I do not like them and yes, all my cues are laden with pre-ban ivory so I am not going to be hypocritical and condemn using EE as a wrap as long as it conforms to the endangered species wildlife act. However, for someone like myself, choosing a wrap for a cue is a challenge. In my opinion, the linen wraps today just don't cut it and I was pulling for Hulbert to make a break through but that never happened.

As I earlier wrote, got 2 customs underway and Cortland #9 will be on one of the cues. The other cue design requires something other than a white with green speck wrap so #9 doesn't work.....#12 would be suitable but already been down that road and all it resulted in was 2 years of searching & lots of posts on Az and basically, a waste of a hundred bucks. I heard President Bill Clinton once remark....."You don't learn much from getting kicked by a mule twice.".....Ergo, Cortland #12 is off the table and #9 is incompatible with my cue's design and so what's a guy to do?

I am open to suggestions.........I need a light gray leather wrap.....or neutral gray but not dark gray........I have seen some EE wraps of that color but as I earlier wrote, I do not like the one on my cue. A fellow Azer suggested using EE wraps made from the belly portion of the hide.......probably cost around $150 for the wrap. Well, price is not an issue but the wrap material obviously is. I'd rather avoid EE not because of the controversy but mainly because of the EE wrap on my Prewitt cue. In any event, I have to select a wrap before my cue gets completed which is still 6-7 months away so no time urgency. Nonetheless, finding the right type & color leather wrap may not be easy.

KCRack'em....thanks for the helpful information and advice..........and as I replied in my PM,
Martin similarly echoed the same sentiments........and hopefully, he's on the lookout for an ultra
version for me or something equivalent. I value his opinion and he's also very well connected.

That sounds delicious. Gordon Ramsey scores the skin and packs it with salt. Mouth watering....

I don't really care for ee wraps either. Maybe because I'm so cheap.

Because I "hear" when you use the EE on your cue, you'll never forget how to make a shot.
