Emily Duddy Photoshoot Multiple Images

As long as we’re giving unsolicited advice, I’d go easier on the Photoshopping. I’ve seen her and she’s a naturally pretty woman but she looks a little cyborg-y in these pictures.

Just my 1¢.

Good luck.

don't want to offend

huh?

wanna explain that....never heard eye angles before...

I'm not trying to offend but look at her eyes in this set of images. You have to consider camera angles and where you have the person looking. "Cheating" things a bit can make a better image if not totally realistic for what they are doing.

Referring back to the images in Robin's(Robroy) message:

First image, for best "eye" she should have her head raised at a little higher angle or look down more or a combination of both so that you get a full pupil and a little iris at the top.

Second image, looks like you are going for "attitude" but the center of her eye buried in the corner of the opening makes her look a bit cross-eyed.

Third image, way to much white of the eye showing.

Last image, not bad but might have had her raise her head a little and/or look slightly lower down.

These are of course just my opinions. Eyes are something I found to be a royal pain in the butt, probably why I was so critical of the positioning of them in my own images and I tend to notice eyes in other people's work. I spent most of my time on outdoor photography of one kind or another and didn't spend a lot of time shooting people. Posed photography is tough, a lot to remember. Men and women are posed differently and there are dozens of do's and don'ts and then you have to know when to break the rules.

A suggestion is to always give your model something specific to look at. A stuffed animal or small red ball works fine. Might look funny when you unpack a teddy bear mounted on an adjustable stand but it works!

Hu,

Dont worry I am not that easily offended. Anytime you have anything published or submitted to a agency it can be easy to take any rejection personally so you develop a thick skin. Incidentally all of my published works are of fashion photography...people and clothing...versus your background of landscapes so perhaps we approach it differently.

Nice to hear other opinions...

Agreed- she is much prettier in person.

But I don't think it's camera angles so much as she's using a more artistic way of doing makeup- the eyeliner is going deep in the corners of the eyes, and towards the nose, creating more drama. It's like the inside reverse version of cleopatra cat eye eyeliner style that extends towards the brow/ears from the outward corners.

a story about getting her to look at you

Yeah, a bit different with critters too. I was out the first time shooting with another photographer. Been bit a time or two with all my gear put up as I was just arriving or leaving so I had a camera and lens out as we left. Sure enough, a coyote gyp offered an opportunity but she was headed the other way. I got my camera up and gave a sharp bark, she stopped and looked back over her shoulder and I got a shot. I barked three or four more times each time she started away again and got a shot or two each time.

When I got back in the truck the younger man's eyes were as big as saucers. "You barked at that coyote!!" A common trick of varmint hunters to stop a coyote for a shot, works fine for photographers too. Later that same year I used a mouth call to "talk" a coyote across a foot bridge while he was on the camera. Amazing to me because I knew people had used that bridge less than thirty minutes before.

Here is a link to one of my very early digital images. Not a great shot and I was guessing at processing for that site but it gives an idea of my usual models!

Talk about going 180 degrees. This thread started out with:

"Look at the hot chick!"

Then turned into...
"She's not that good at pool!"

Then turned into...
"I'll give her the 8 and beat her!"

Then turned into...
"What's the definition of a 'Pro' anyway."

Then turned into...
"The poses and the expressions are all wrong in these pics!"

And has now turned into...
"The makeup job is terrible! Someone should have gone softer with the eyeliner!"

You all need to turn in your man cards ASAP! :D

i can't believe that this thing is up to 16 pages, over a mediocre chick. put some cloth back on her and doesn't get the time of day

How do you know she went there for the tournament? Maybe she just had the money and wanted to go to China. And designed the trip around a tournament, which she could play in for kicks and experience.

The tournament (Amway) was held in Taiwan and, no, that is not a part of China.

For US citizens, they can go visit Taiwan without a visa for a stay up to 30 days whereas we do need a visa to go to China (this issue prevented SVB from attending a tournament in China recently).

I think there was two invitations for Americans and that went to JB and ED. I don't know if their trips were subsidized or not.

This tournament draws a very strong field from around the world and pays out good. It was reported that Kelly Fisher made 34K USD by winning this. I think there are few other tournaments in Asia (China, to be specific) that pays out like this this. Looks like future of women's pool/billiard is in Asia.

3 Americans: JB, ED, & MW.

Taiwan's official name is the Republic of China, which is not the same as the People's Republic of China, i.e. the mainland, but still, it's the Republic of China. I know all about Chiang Kai-shek and the civil war and the split with Mao. IMO, if it has China in its name and its ethnicity is predominately Chinese, it's China.

I spent a couple of weeks in Hong Kong before the Brits handed it back to the Chinese, and it was, for all intents and purposes, China, even though it was officially British.

Now, back to pool...

Pure drivel. I have never in my life heard "China" used in reference to Taiwan. "Republic of China," sure. But just "China," never. When people say China they mean CHINA, they don't mean Taiwan or Hong Kong.

It's great that you spent 2 minutes on wikipedia, but from now on just learn the difference and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the lecture. People sometimes also mean plates and saucers when they say china. And for the record, Hong Kong has been part of your all-caps CHINA since sometime in the 90's, when the Brits handed it back. This is a ridiculous conversation and I'm opting out. Bye-bye.

Just throw my 2 centavos in the mix. I think she's a lovely young lady and that the pictures are well done. I don't have a bad thing to say about her, I'm impressed with her heart and attitude. Even though I don't know her at all, I'd guess she's a pretty confident person and could care less what the naysayers have to say?? YMMV

Hi guys it's Emily Duddy

2.) They bash the way we dress, promotional photos, and projects. We don't care if people don't like us or find us attractive. The truth is we are trying to add a new level of marketability to the world of pool. We are trying to push boundaries. We are doing our best to start new projects and to help the pool world grow stronger. But most importantly we are being ourselves and showing the world who we are. Maybe you should try it sometime and come out from behind your keyboard.

AS A POOL PLAYER OR A FAN OF POOL, IF YOU ARE CONNECTED TO THE POOL WORLD PLEASE HELP SILENCE THESE DISRESPECTFUL PEOPLE TOGETHER. THEY ARE HURTING THE SUCCESS OF OUR SPORT. IF YOU ARE HATER WILL JUST PLEASE STOP!

I AM A FAN OF FREE SPEECH AND IF YOU WANT TO START A FORUM ON ANY TOPIC OF YOUR CHOOSING THEN BY ALL MEANS, BUT WHY ARE YOU SO MISERABLE THAT YOU ARE ATTACKING PLAYERS BY NAME AND DEGRADING THEIR REPUTATIONS WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW THEM OR ANYTHING ABOUT THEM. WHATEVER YOU THINK YOU KNOW IS HEARSAY OR YOUR DISTORTED VIEW OF REALITY. WHY DON'T YOU TRY TO GET TO KNOW US FIRST. WE ARE VERY DOWN-TO-EARTH PEOPLE.

BOTTOM LINE IS THE WHOLE WORLD NEEDS TO SUPPORT OTHER PEOPLE RIGHT NOW IN ORDER TO CAUSE POSITIVE CHANGE. THE POOL WORLD WILL NEVER GROW AND BECOME SUCCESSFUL IF WE ARE FIGHTING AMONGST OURSELVES.
