Emily Duddy VS Ine Helvik match Amway Cup March 2013

Emily plays really good pool at times, has a great stroke, she is not a top level women player at this time, does she have what it takes to become a top player, i would say she does.

I would say that Emily is a solid b player, with tons of talent to become an A player in the future!

Anyone not an A player after 11 years is never going to be an A player IMO.

Once again, you are mixing pro status with pro speed. Bartram probably qualifies either way as a "pro," while Duddy is only a pro in the technical sense, ie she does not play at pro speed. The only reason she has pro status is due to the WPBA being a defunct organization at the moment.

I completely agree about her speed. She is ranked and listed as a pro but she doesn't shoot what any of us consider pro speed. Neither does any if the other women outside top 20. I have said it before and will say it again, she may shoot B speed in my book but no better than that. I think we are saying the same thing.

What would you bet with her playing BIH ghost?

Anybody want to bet if she can beat the ghost with BIH in a race to 7?

She won't see 4 games before it's over from what I've seen. Boderline A player IMO I know a few dozen players within an hour of me that would destroy her.

Who cares if she can play A level or not? The only thing she has to do is create a thread on AzBilliards, and her popularity notch goes up 100 points each time. Soon, she'll be one of the most recognized females on the lady pro circuit, thanks to this forum. :grin-square:

Her AzBilliards rating went from 564 down to 217 in just this one week. Keep up the good work, Emily! ;)

AZBilliards rating?

What is that? Unless you are being facetious...

In other words, you don't need play well Emily. All that matters is that people know your name!

Pool is just an afterthought!

Fwiw, I'm sure Emily is aware of this, hence the reason for the websites, the facebook page, the twitter account, these threads, etc..

I'm afraid that's correct, Mia. The same was true of Minnesota Fats. Oh, he could play all right, but he was nowhere near the strength of Willie, et al., and others of his generation. He not only had the gift of gab, but he knew how to market himself, much like Emily is doing in the year 2013.

In Fats' era, marketing was quite different. There were no social media avenues. Fats used whatever he could at his disposal and ran with it.

My favorite Minnesota Fats quote was this: "Boys, the only difference between me and everybody else is that everybody else drives around in a Volkswagen, and Minnesota Fats drives around in a Duesenberg." :D

He definitely left everybody with a smile on their face. That was Fats' marketing. Emily's marketing is utilizing everything she can at her disposal, to include AzBilliards. Nothing wrong with that.

im delivering a dead horse to your place tonight so you can stop beating this one:)

Yes, he would never have posted pictures of himself in his underwear squatting on a pool table, as enticing as that may have been.

If Fats had that form of self-promotion available, as Emily does, you can rest well assured he would have taken it.

Yeah, you're right.

Ain't that the truth! Fats once toured the country in a colorful Lincoln limousine with his nickname painted along the side panels in translucent paint. The paint would actually change colors as it moved with the reflections from the sun:
Minnesota Fats, King of Pool.

After a while, everybody else believed it too! :grin-square:
