End of the US Open?

I still question this "demand" if we're using the time it takes to fill the last 128 as the guideline. More so knee jerk purchases with the pockets to do so.
This is the confusing part. It all seems rather last minute, and rushed. If it's going to happen at all, which hasn't been confirmed, completely.

It seems an obvious evolution of what MR has been doing, and it makes a great deal of sense, to me. I just think that if it were to be the only means of entry, the qualifying tournaments (and schedule) would have already been announced, months ago. I have no doubt they can (and will) get the 128 or however many they end up looking for, in this way.

Makes me wonder/Why only 6 mths out, no dates have been set for US Open 9 ball.
We're almost 6 mths away from the August time frame.
Having it in the summer, most people make ALLOT of plans in advance.
Why has the public NOT been told YET?
I know they have a reason. Wonder what it is?

Can't remember ever playing in a pro event in August.
That may be why they are setting the groundwork, and allowing the teenagers to come, schools out then hummmmmmmm.

There is something about pool that inspires players to play rather than sit in the stands.

You play tennis, you are not returning Federer’s serve. You play golf, you are not matching Tiger’s tee shot. But at pool, maybe you’ll win the lag and run a few against Shane.

You’re still a dead duck… but something about the game makes us all believe.

Lou Figueroa
Golf and Pool are pretty much the same for me, I'd rather play than watch but I only want to compete where I think I can. I can't play like Tiger or Shane so I don't think I need, or have the right necessarily, to play with them.

Quite frankly... If someone is weighing the decision between a vaca and playing in one of their premier events. MR probably doesn't want them there anyway...lol

I recall the announcement of the USopen date shift. It was to have favourable weather during the event. Atlantic City in November wasn't the nicest. Everyone was stuck in doors throughout the week.

So MR holds the top 128 spots for ranked players. How many of those players will show up? Lots of open events that a lot of the top players don’t participate in. How do they fill spots that the ranked players don’t participate?

And that’s why pool has remained in the dumps! You got a bunch of shortstops thinking they should be playing on the pro tour. Shortstops who are taking entries away from the best players in the world because they can click a link the fastest.

Where are you getting this baloney?

Amateurs do not believe they belong on the pro tour.

I know dozens of guys that go to big events just for the thrill of competition and to collect a war story or two. No one is deluding themselves. It’s just great to go back to your home room and say you got the chance to play SVB, Earl, Scott, Tony, Busti, Jose, Efren, and so on. It’s to test your game and yourself and then return to real life.

No one is quitting their day job.

Amateurs don’t believe they belong on the pro tour yet they play on the pro tour? Ok Lou and what about the pros who couldn’t play because an amateur beat them to the punch?

I don't think (or at least not most) amateurs think that, however pool is fairly unique in that in short races a decent amateur could beat a pro.

In most sports that simply couldn't happen, but in short race 9-Ball it can and that is the attraction.

Amateurs know they aren't going to win the US Open, but they could maybe draw another amateur in the first round, perhaps a low level pro off their game in the next and maybe a big gun where they manage a couple of break and runs, but lose 11-4 or whatever.

For many that will be an amazing memory and I think that is what people sign up for.

Awhile back, after you'd mentioned it, I contacted John Leyman. He was only able to give me the month not the dates.
I assume Atlantic City and called they had nothing.
It was announced last October as 8/19-8/24.

That's a preferred Casino time then I'd think.
Someone told me Aug was their prime season.
My point of Aug/kids/school might have merit.
We all know a 16 yr old won the Worlds, at this rate in the next ten years a young man still in high school could and will win.

That can't happen.

All 128 signed up pros are entered into the draw, amateurs can only gain entry via qualification or if they have enough ranking points on the top up list if one or more of the 128 players choose not to enter.

amateurs still can, and will, play in the US open. but the 400 and 500 fargo guys that played last year most likely won't. i don't get how that's a bad thing, especially since these lesser players blocked out strong amateurs.

It could happen before Matchroom though!

I totally agree!

Funny isn't it. The promoter of those Opens stiffed players for years, wrote bad checks and dragged out the payouts for months after the event was over. He is now revered as a visionary for pro pool in America. Not necessarily the role model I would hang my hat on.
People who are complaining either have short memories or haven’t been following the game as long. You don’t hear the players complaining lol

If a pro really lost out on playing in the U.S. Open, because he wasn't professional enough to plan his entry, then he is not treating his profession as a profession and I have no sympathy for that player.

If an amateur can't play in a pro event until he is a pro, how would you have people move from amateur to professional?
